You did great work. Don't beat yourself up about bubbles and runs, its not a museum Ferrari, its a one-man excavator restoration! Be proud of yourself!
I can’t even imagine how many hours went into this. Thanks for spending the extra time to film it all. Can’t wait to see this excavator pieced back together!
What I like best about your content is your honesty, but it is more how thorough you are with everything you do. There are a million "will it run" videos out there, but then when it comes to the laborious and tedious part to actually make it look good, other content creators "cheap out". Nothing feels like a total gyp than "patina" under the guise of "authenticity". Everybody has patina, but few have a like new 1950's Chevy or Ford. The details matter if you really want people to be impressed. The details are the difference between a hack and a craftsman. You sir, are a CRAFTSMAN. No need to point out every run/drip, though I know you are doing so for the honesty and to show the empirical evidence of what worked and what fell short some. This is a monster excavator, not a historic ride destined for Mecums, rather for "doing dirty", so it does not matter much. The exterior will matter slightly more since that is what everybody will see. The dozer build was epic, and so to is this redo. What truly blows me away is the sheer volume of effort required and how willingly you take it on. I was glad you took the time to treat with phosphoric acid to convert. The wire brushing, multiple degreasing, washing, drying, sanding, converting, priming and painting...the RIGHT WAY. This machine will out-last you and will be a treasure your children will inherit someday. WELL DONE!
Former industrial blaster/painter here... I just want to commend you on your patience with this project. Working with what you had in frankly dreadful conditions, achieved an acceptable result for a home job. As for the paint coming 3/4 full of part A, thats standard with paint that comes in a "kit". Over all well done, far more patient a man than i.
Just wow! What a fantastic job. And quite an undertaking. Your great skills are only surpassed by your patience and determination. A+++ channel and content. Thank you!
It turned out extremely well Matt!! I love your videos, no drama and no pretending . Just the real deal! I couldn’t imagine the amount of hours you have into this excavator. Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing with us!
Matt, great job. To do all that work and shoot and edit is appreciated. I worked in television production for 35 yrs. I know what it takes to do that. I love the series.
The way I look at it when it comes to paint, it’s your machine. If you have no plans to sell it, paint it whatever color you want. You can paint it pink if you want. It’s your machine. Looks good either way!
Matt, big props to you! That was a huge job & it turned out fantastic! You’ll never see the runs & bubbles once it’s all together & who cares if you do, it’s a working machine not a show piece. Can’t wait for the next video!
You can be sure of one thing. That will be the best looking machine of the year in the country! Dont beat yourself up at all. Cant wait for the next video
You have given me the confidence to pull the 300 inline six out of my 78 F150 4x4 and do a rebuild on it and the single barrel Carter carburetor! Going to clean it up and paint it as well. Everything should be here by the end of the week. You are awesome and do a great job! I really enjoy watching you and I appreciate you sharing it all with us. 🙏❤️
I'm absolutely impressed of the amount of work you did. The weather might not have been ideal but you got it just done in time. Your children seem to like the D4.
38:08 🌬️🌀🌪️ I give you so much credit for dealing with the high winds while trying to paint outside! I was getting super frustrated just sitting in my chair at home, by seeing the plastic flying all over & the filter cone going flying away when pouring the paint! Those red 'whip' stir sticks you put in drill to mix paint are so handy - I have one too & love it. Anyways keep up the great work Matt! I hope you didn't get too frustrated painting your excavator. Hope doggie feels better and make sure shes not getting into any of the chemicals your using\spraying there. Theyre real sensitive to that stuff too 👌🏻👍🏻🛠️🔧🚜⚠️🚧⛓️🔩🚚🦺 ✊🏻🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲✊🏻
Well done Matt. You are really going the extra mile for a machine that you intend to use rather than exhibit. I started with you when you rescued the bulldozer and look forward to every video. Thank you.
I’ve seen worse jobs by so called professionals, that’s an amazing difference from original grease to now .can’t wait to see the whole machine finished , congrats from Australia.🇦🇺👍🏻👍🏻
I want to compliment your level of detail. It is very nice to see someone who takes pride in their work! No matter what you are working on. It’s really great to see that. From what I see on RU-vid most do the minimum to get by! Keep it up! And don’t be too hard on yourself.
I watch in total awe your great series on the D4, so I have to say I'm not surprised by all you can achieve on any project you start...but this episode puts you in a separate league... you're a freaking legend man!! People like you built this country. RESPECT! 🙂
"Above and beyond hillbilly" would be a better name for this channel! The effort you put in is incredible it's never half assed. Properly done even if you are an amateur (less experienced ).
You are doing an excellent job in my book, that, to me, is a lot tedious prep work and then to paint all the surfaces, my hat is off to you sir, coupled with windy conditions, nice job. Thanks for the update, enjoyed watching.
Would have been really nice to have one of those fancy lasers . expense can be a hindrance. That machine is gonna be so clean and pretty that you won't wanna use it..well done Matt... looks great , as usual. ! All your jobs come out looking goood !
You can make custom cut-outs with those large sheets of 3M sticky-back non-skid to dress up the areas where people step often and to protect the paint. Or you can cut-out a template and paint on some bed liner too.
Getting close to 100k subs, congrats on that. It finally feels like the excavator is going to be put back together. It's going to be fun to watch, but i have confidence you'll be able to get it back together. I really want to see you making your own hoses, and to see how economic that is compared to buying them.
Thanks Matt! Interesting video as always.😊 I can’t imagine wearing the special suit, fighting tarps, trying to get the spray gun set right, moving cameras around and narrating, avoiding spraying your dog, and trying to get the spray just right twice in one day, etc. Well done!😊
Way to go Matt, going to hit 100K subscribers in the near future, that is impressive! The excavator is coming along nicely. Thanks for sharing. Hope Charlie is feeling better.
Been watching you since starting the Tractor!! You have been amazing to tackle all the equipment you have overhauled and painted!! Very much impressed with your diligence to get it done the best you can!!! Your a good Man Charlie Brown!! All the best from Surrey BC Canada
"it's above and beyond what we're going to do" says the man who stripped an excavator right back to its frame and rebuilt every system. lol, I love this channel, you are something else in the best way.
This channel is so good. Look forward to every video. Recently bought a pistol grip pressure washer gun on Amazon for $89. Best thing ever for getting in places.
Don't let the drive for perfection stop the goal of plenty good enough. If it's good enough to get the job done the time spent to get to perfection won't make it any more useful.
Excellent series so far. It's great to see an obviously intelligent person use common sense, logic and ability to achieve their goals. Fumbling here and there, only temporarily fussing over the inconsequential, admitting shortcomings, under-stating the quality of work and being more than happy in the end are all very relatable to us backyard mechanics. Great work. Great results.👌👍
" with this I'm just breathing good ol fashion micro plastics " you crack me up 😂 loved seeing the positive air setup in action.. I've needed that setup multiple times now and foolishness prevailed.. Time to bite the bullet ... Great work as always
I’ve seen men much happier with worse paint jobs on exterior bodywork, fair play Matt, looks like a brilliant job even with your weather and time constraints
I once painted a car working at night with dew problems and temperature issues. I can literally feel the anxiety with you. Wishing you the best. At least you have better materials than I did.
Having watched your dozer rebuild I know that by the time you finish this it will be as good as it possibly can be, you will also know that it will do what you ask of it. You are doing an excellent job.
Great video young man! Your perseverance and patience and the desire to do things properly with the entire project is beyond me. I would have just changed the oil(s), stuck on some new hoses and gave the bodywork a bucket of DIY top coat paint applied by granmas' old kitchen mop !
Best channel on RU-vid. Love what you are doing here. It's a credit to you the quality work you are doing on this machine. Thank you for your efforts and all the fantastic content. Really looking forward to the next video.
this must be the most thorough over haul on you tube. even John on farmcraft hasn't gone this far. good luck, all those electrics would give me nightmares 😂
I'll take the runs and puddles... looks so much better and it will make keeping clean so much easier. I had little hope for this thing when you first went to work on it on the owner's property, but now it's a surefire winner.
I think you should be proud of what you have achieved, you have done a brilliant job especially considering being against the time of year and the wind. I really hope Charlie is feeling much better, take care and looking forward to watching your next video
