Pairing speakers with a Vintage 30.... H and Alnico creambacks

Wow... the mix with the Alnico Cream *really* smooths out the sizzle of the V30.

There is just a depth and warmth that the Alnico speaker brings that gives it another dimension on the sound spectrum. I love that speaker and it sounds sick with the V30 too.

I just recently put in an order for a Vertical super Fatboy with the V30 x H speaker combo and after hearing this I am so glad I did!

Man, I'm being ruined by the Alnico Creams! They keep the distorted sound articulate (you can still hear the defined notes, no muddiness). I'd like to hear the H Cream on the bottom with the alnico on the top... expensive, yes, delightful? my money would be on that combo. Thanks Gentlemen! Enjoy all your work. (I'm saving up).

Great video guys ! I have tried in my Friedman 412 cab these combinations : creamback m65 with creambackh75 in X pattern, creamback75 with redback150 in X pattern and now I have 2 alnico creams on top, 2 redbacks on a bottom and it is by far the best combination for our music (fat, drop C, heavy-nu metal). I like those alnico creams so much, that I want a quad of them in my cab ! the best ever, cause they handle everything (clean, crunch, heavy overdrive equally well) 🤟

Both great 👍 H Creamback is def my piece of cake. That filthy presence this pair delivered definitely missing with the Cream Alnico which is full of warmth and smoothness though. Really it’s up to the customer and his preferences))

I am back to re watching your videos. They are always good reference when you do not have the speaker in the room. Regarding to this one I personally think that slanted cabs starting from the Marshall 1960A have their own sound. This cabinet has that as well. And that characteristic thing to my ears is that, next to a obviously different sound projection, those cabs have pronounced middle and middle top end. One could say even that internal reflections or the phase difference between speakers is not complementing the low end and lack of that in phase low end coupling brings out more middle and middle top end. I am noticing this, though in less pronounced fashion, even in the slanted baffle cabs that do not have back parallel to the baffle board. They keep bit more low end but pronounce middle part. Projection it self can be very helpful but depends on the stage and the venue a lot. Regarding to speakers them self, both are always on the top of my list. Here though Alnico Cream retains bit more of it’s character and sounds better to me. Doesn’t sound at its best to be honest but doesn’t sound bad either. I was always 1960B person 😊 I own one from the 1971 but with replacement speakers 😢. Still sounds awesome. Seem like with B type I get more consistent results while A type is extremely good in very rare occasions and just average sounding in the most of the situations.

Both are definitely great combinations, with the H creamback it seems more in your face, ballsy, more suited for hard rock or heavier stuff to me. But no matter how I love the H creamback, overall I prefer it with the alnico cream for its added top end sweetness, which makes the sound more complex IMO. Btw great vid, Joe, you guys really address all the important speaker questions.

If you want hard rock/metal sounds then it’s the H75. If cleanness, articulation and richness are important then it’s the alnico. They are very different speakers. I actually have a combination of the two and I love it.

That alnico with the V30 sounds magic. I'd prefer when you do these comparisons that you'd go from say strat clean on one straight to the other speaker setup and the same for every guitar and amp setup. Hearing one ruff, then others etc, I've forgotten how they sound 4mins later when we swap onto the other speakers.

I think both combinations sounded fantastic, and really close as well...therefore i'd go for the creamback simply because of the lower cost.

As you say both sounded really good, but with that Strat the Alnico edged it for me, the sound just had an extra dimension to it.

Alnico for sure...My speakers are a v30 and a m65 cream back in separate sealed oversized cabs.Used in conjunction with a EHV el84 head or sometimes my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe with a G12p80 that I am glad I ending up keeping in that combo amp.

I love the Alnico Cream, but I think in this one the G12-H75 Creamback did slightly better... I think the warmer sound and extra bass complements the V30 quite well. No wonder it is one of the most popular speaker pairings

What a sound from all combinations. If i had to choose, H Creamback + V30, especially with that totally sweet strat. The overdriven clean sounds are glorious. The Mira Humbucker has that early DC Vibe. That said, there is not much in it.

tough, tough choice. the alnico is beautifully smooth, and it sounds like there's nothing in the sound that shouldn't be there. the H has a slightly harsh grit in the high end, but on the flipside it has a spanky airyness that sounds incredible with the PRS. fantastic sounding cab. i just got an 8 string to complete my guitar collection, and i just got my engl blackmore back from service and realized that no other amp i own will ever sound this good. from now on i'm only buying cabs

Yeah, the H75 + V30 is quickly becoming a very popular pairing among a variety of guitar players from all genres. I remember seeing that dude from Periphery swearing by them as he chose this pairing to equip his Invective cabs. As far as heavy tones are concerned, he knows his shit.

the combination of V30 (Mesa spec) + Alnico Cream is the best one for me yet. But the Creamback H sound good too (not as balance and rich).

hey! great video. full disclosure, i am not a big fan of v30 v30 or v30 G12H pairings (i have both) without the right gear / specific genre(s). Always on look out for better V30 pairings. There are some good ones. These cream pairings are awesome! Issue is without watching able to predict Alnico would sound better in an open cabinet. Have you done same pairings in a closed cab? At least the Creamback? (For you purists who would never put alnico in a closed cab, just hit the mute switch for a moment.)

hi joe I had fatboy 2x12 cab with 2 kemper kones and couldn't get them out fast enough installed celestion vintage 30 and H creamback and cab now worlds apart.

V30 and Alnico Cream wins by a mile to my ears. More complex and dynamic cleans, as well more complex and dynamics for both overdrive and distortion, and still has all the balls. Not even close in my book...and that really surprises me because I've absolutely loved the H Cream pretty much every time I've heard it.

Both sound great but the H cream was more rudely in your face, as well as slightly more present and open. The Alnico had a cleaner or warmer clean that was nice too, but of it were me, H cream.

I just ordered a V30 and a Creamback after watching this. It’ll be my first time mixing speakers in a cab. Is there a consensus on where to place the speakers in the cab? Tighter on bottom, etc?
