It was awesome. Saeed Anwar was my all time favourite Pakistani batsmam. You mentioned about his century against Australia A, however I remember his 160 odd runs which he scored against touring Indian side in 1989, if I recalled it correctly. At that time he probably hold the record of six consecutive centuries in domestic cricket, if I am not wrong. In Australian tour he was simply outstanding, where he scored 126 against Sri Lanka and then got out around 31st over. His 70 odd runs against Australia were also wonderful to watch. He performed well in Austroasia cup and then century and a half century in odis against New Zealand. However when he was fail to score in his dobut test match, he was dropped even from odis. An absolute shocking and regretful incident of my childhood. Two three years of Saeed Anwar prime were wasted.

Another strategic mistake in Pakistan cricket was after 2003 WC. If the trio of Rashid-Aamir-Miandad, as captain-selector-coach were supported and allowed to work for next 4 years by PCB, the team would have been in different league today.
I don't think they would be in a different league but they would have been a better team with better results. They'd have been good and more competitive but not brilliant. I think they were wrong to sack Javed as coach after the 2004 home series test loss against India. However didn't Miandad and Sohail clash in 2003/04 when running the team? Even in the 1996 World Cup
Aamir bhai was a great human being as well. I bowled him a lot in nets as a net bowler in Rawalpindi during PAK VS WI 1997 TEST and also in PAK VS AUS 1998 TEST. I remember i clean bowled him in nets and he was kind enough to tell me well bowled and also gave tips about how to improve as a bowler. It was such a great gesture from him since most other players would be very angry if net bowlers got them out. He was captain than, and he was also not in good form and was really working hard with Javed Miadad in nets, but still he took time out to appreciate me which tells a lot about his character. Aamir bhai please talk more about your relationship and stories with Saeed Anwar. I wish Aamir bhai were part of 1999 test tour to India!
I remember the 90's cricketing era like it was yesterday. I didn't have in depth info of what was happening at that time. But today I can co relate everything. Thanks to personal official channels of you and many other greats

Sir Big fan from India. I have watched 100 times your banter with Venkatesh Prasad 1996 and there was not as hate. I loved that healthy banter which we rarely see now a days. Indians in my generation had always high regards of you and saeed anwar pair. I guess after your pair we never seen such aggressive opener till date. My question to you. Now pakistan's main bowler like Aamir, Hasnain, wahab riaz etc they are giving more preference to t20s than tests. Pakistan needs performer like such players and seems like they prefer money than country. Why PCB tolerating such players. Love

Aamir Sohail is 100% correct. Wasim Akram was too young and inexperienced to be captain in 1993 so he tried to copy Imran Khan, after miandad was removed as captain, PCB should have gone with someone educated and a deep understanding of the game such as Aamir Sohail and Pakistan would have achieved a lot more in the 90’s. Let Wasim and waqar fight all they want..the leader would have been neutral.

Very valid points sir. I always thought Pakistan was the best team of the 90s and they could have achieved a lot more. They had 5-6 players who could have easily walked into any team. Best pace attack, best bowling and batting all rounders, pinch hitters. Kamal ki spin bowling and dependable keepers.
So if I understand you correctly, the core reason for the team to not reach its full potential had nothing to do with Wasim's captaincy skills but everything to do with the utter lack of professionalism of other players (and more so the senior players) to follow his lead. The undue respect for the 'seniority' culture which is common in Pakistani institutions is a plague that can quickly corrupt professional sports. A captain is supposed to assert and be firm about his decisions. A captain also needs to have his legitimacy backed up by his consistently world class performances to set a standard for the rest of the team. Wasim filled that bill perfectly as Miandad's peak was over at that time. What was needed was for all these babies (and that might include you, I'm not sure what your position was) to grow up and carry within themselves a professional attitude towards sports. THAT is the core reason. Not Wasim, not the cricket board, but unfounded respect for seniority and prioritising experience over skill. It's not just Pakistan, that's what costed India the WC in 2019 as well (aka Dhoni who was a huge disappointment but was only playing because of his God status in India).
Aamir bhae, you are one of my childhood heros, I still remember yout double century against Eng in 1992 that included 32 fours and after Viv Richards you scored double ton in a single day. Just a simple query: Why any Sindhi or Baloch haven't been part of Pak Cricket ? If you have witnessed any, how many numbers comparable to Punjabis and Pakhtoons. No hard feelings to any of my brothers, just want to know the reality.
Becoz cricket needs equipments and facilities. If u look india most cricketers r from mumbai, Bangalore, chandigarh, delhi. All major cities. Very rare from 3 tier cities follow wio cannprive at state level and make it profession
@@faisalahmed8658 This was true till 1990s but not many have come from tier 2 & 3 cities like Dhoni from Ranchi, Raina from Ghaziabad, Pandya Ahmedabad. I think it has got to do with facilities across states from school, district to state level backed by fair selection systems and procedure
Salam Aamir sahab, You rock! you are one of the most unbiased, non prejudice cricketer. You raised your voice again with the reality that Javed was unfairly removed from captaincy that caused all this consequences for the 90s team, which was the BEST team in the history of Pakistan. And we did not achieve anything after 92 even with this team. Please raise your voice against this switch of captaincy from Sarfraz to Babar/Azhar. This is also very unfair, based on the language, and ethnicity, Sarfraz was unfairly removed. Waqar and Misbah will take Pakistani team to new lowest point as both have shown biased based on language.
I always observe Aamir bhai always respect and supported Javed Miandad who is indeed a legend during his cricket days as well...and he always spoke against Wasim Akram and company due to his involment in match fixing saga...that why i always respect Aamir coz he is unbiased and supported Javed bhai who is Urdu speaking Muhajir rather a punjabi like Wasim Akram

Agree that making wasim akram captain atleast 2 years before his time when javed miandad and salim malik were still playing was a biggest blunder by the board they should have let javed continue like misbah did whenever he wanted to retire. who knows that he could lost his form by 1994 and retired himself then wasim akram would have automatically become captain without all those controversies and pakistan could be allyine no1 side of 90s
1996 world cup tak Javed miyandad ko captain banaye rakhna chahiye tha uske baad 1999 world cup tak saleem Malik ko captain banaye rakhna tha phir 2003 tak waseem akram ko uske baad 2007 tak waqar younus ko uske baad inzimamul huq ko.
Imran was against javed miandad captaincy so him and justice nasim Shah conspired against him.So indirect Imran and Pcb was responsible for this.Yes sir you are right that removing Miandad from captaincy was a big mistake.

You pointed out rightly Pakistan cricket suffered in the 90's due to egos instead of match fixing. Whoever didon't perform players started blaming to each other of match fixing.
Replacing Miandad after one bad tour was the biggest mistake in Oak cricket history. He should have been retained with Wasim as vice captain till 96 WC. But the powers that be in those days did not like JM and wanted to replace him asap. Salim Malik should have been dropped as he was a menace from day one. Waqar was also a politician and shouldn't have been allowed to play dirty politics
Aamir Sir, grew up watching your matches against us in Sharjah, you were a part of plenty of great memories from my childhood - being a left hander myself, I had an affinity of following you and Saeed Anwar. My question - what really happened in the India Pak WC match in 1996, Bangalore? What led to Wasim Akram sitting out in that game? Nobody has clearly answered to that mystery. Aamir Sohail was the reason of the WC 96 QF loss and probably has one of the biggest egos ever, I remember meeting them at a hotel in Australia, I was staying at the same hotel, Aamir looked and didnt even acknowledge me. Others were very gracious, Mushtaq and I spoke for 10 mins..

Lekin muje hazir team wicket keeper k baray main bat karni hai. Sari dunia main wicket keeper batsmen hote hain . Or present team main rizwan hai jo batsmn nahi hain. After 92 world cup win , it was decided that pakistan should not win the world cup for the sake of protecting Imran Khan image, even we had many good teams in all world cup and wasim Akram made sure not to win the world cup on the instruction of Ik and Ik dragged wasim akram towards match fixing so that at least he can earn money by fixing the matches and not win world cup
