How does this lens compare the sigma 100-400mm for L mount?

This lens seems quite expensive for the zoom range but it seems to be the way at the moment-I think the Sony equiv is about the same price. I remember buying my Nikon 70-300mm VR lens about 13 years ago for about a quarter of the price! What I would like to see now from the L-Mount alliance is a super telephoto zoom lens either from Panasonic or Sigma (maybe the 60-600mm sports).

Bring on the primes, i know the optics are good and ois+macro is amazing but a slow variable aperture zoom for > 1k is still silly. The 24-105 is pricy too but more interesting to me with the fixed f4. I too remember cheap 70-300 lenses, but they were pretty crap. Also one can't gloss over ois and especially the macro function, that's huge compared to a regular lens (like the 70-200 f4 with its 0.9m focus distance).

I ordered the 70-200 F4 for $892 US and the 70-300 F4.5-5.6 for $814 US. I'll compare them when they arrive, but which do you prefer?

Thanks for watching. Both options are very good lenses. It really comes down to reach and speed. Shooting indoor sports as an example I will lean towards the 70-200 as every bit of light gathering helps that situation, Outdoors though the reach of the 300mm is more important for me. Let me know what you decide after you have had some time with both. Thanks

ED is not "extra dispersed". The opposite is true. It stands for extra-low dispersion.

I'd rather have an 800mm F8 but weather sealed, unlike the current Canon RF crap... But hey, 300mm is a necessary range, amazing that they still didn't have one for the L-Mount, trouble is I'll first have to go to an eastern country sell a kidney.

We should all put our lens caps on our lenses to stay safe, protect the NHS and save lives 😂😂😂 I mean the two weeks to flatten the curve worked so well that this can't hurt right?
