Something I think is interesting is that the cure to the rat plague was the combination of Sokolov and Piero's elixirs. Sokolov's healed the body, and Piero's restored the mana/soul. So the plague itself might have been partially magic, given the fact that you can summon rats seemingly out of nowhere with a supernatural power.
I think it’s more that Sokolov was aiming to cure the symptoms of the plague whereas Piero was trying to combat the mental degradation and loss of cognitive abilities. Once they put both their formulas together they were able to cure the plague and even reverse the effects in weepers who were thought to be terminal at that stage previously.
I just want to explore Pandyssia...it's a really big map with a lot of lore to explore...do you imagine a Dishonored where you can go anywhere? it would be incredible.
It was kinda imply as the story goes that all the... well most of the Loyalist are coward (except Samuel he's the best character willingly betray them immediately after they planned to poison Corvo). I mean they all send Corvo to do all their dirty works and take all the credits for it. And in all chaos route whether Corvo choose kills or neutralise they will always betray him.
@@BlossomPathOnStage15 late response to your comment, but I'd say it's less of the Loyalists 'taking the credit for Corvo's work' and more of the Loyalists 'reaping the benefits of Corvo's work'. Corvo was set to take the fall once the Loyalists opted to take power for themselves, so essentially Corvo became their fall guy. In regards to the Loyalists being cowards, I'm not entirely sure I agree. I'd definitely say that Trevor and, to an extent, Martin were cowards for sure. Not sure where I stand on Havlock regarding cowardice, but he was certainly an opportunist. But I do agree that Samuel was the best of them all, which is why I always dread reaching the final mission on High Chaos.
@@Queen3210 havelock is a coward, as soon as you grab the key to Emily's room he drops the facade of "I don't want to fight" and starts attacking you while yelling for guards
@@yooooo6296 Oh yah. I was a bit surprised about that. When I got to him on low chaos, I was going to let him go, then I get stabbed as soon as I turn my back.
One thing about the High Overseer is if you brand him, and have high chaos when daud captures you, hell be a wheeper guarding the loot daud threw in the cutscene
It happens regardless of chaos level I think, because he was there when I did a no-kill run. Unless it was changed in an update; I haven't played it in a while
@@kamo7293 if your on low chaos, the amount of weepers down there is trivial. I had played through the game multiple times on low chaos and never had I worried about them in that section.... and I was like 13 at the time, you can "miss" all the weepers down there if you please
i've always thought the outsider intentionally ignored Sokolov, as he'd make the biggest impact on the world without it. and i think the outsider only gave the mark though those who'd make changes to it,
1. i enjoy how the world changes in response to your actions. people are angrier, emily in particular responds with some very disturbing dialogue, and the plague spreads more because there's more dead bodies for the rats to feed off of. 2. being nonviolent and going for ghost seems to fit in with the idea of a protector rather than an avenger. i like the idea of someone who isn't sinking down to the level everyone else is and just trying to help his daughter.
I agree. However, it's pretty lame that they give you all these tools and powers to use for combat in an incredibly interesting and exciting way just to penalize you for using them.
@@AbuHajarAlBugatti I'm sorry I'm not sure what you mean. I was saying it's lame that the devs gave us all these tools but if we use them we get the bad ending
@@jonathanjameson5050 yeah its the same with rich people who get the bad prison ending if they use all the tools at their disposal. I think its immersive. Either you have sadistic fun in life and get shit for it or you pull yourself together and have anything work out well
Ah, so the entire ruling body of Dishonored was incompetent. As if releasing a plague on purpose wasn't bad enough, not doing anything at all to contain it is just as bad.
Had she imposed strict measures it wouod have made excuse for the spymaster to off her and plant a puppet. Theres really no win. She didnt do anything but realistically it was a loss either way
I remember playing through the masked party mission and not thinking much at the time how messed up it was to technically spare her. Amazing how much can just fly over your head when you're in middle school
When I saw the views on this video I expected some shoddy lore video in bad audio and was fully prepared to click away after 5 sec. I couldn't have been more wrong. Happy to have found your channel, hope it will grow fast and see some more traffic, can't wait for your take on dishonored 2!
"What!? This game just told me Im evil!" Samuel: "I think you're a bad person. Therefore I'll alert the base." "WHAT!? OMG! YOU SUCK!" "Ooh! That was probably not the best counter argument to my chaos score. Maybe its time to just own it."
On my 1st playthrough when he said he was gonna alert the guards, I immediately panicked and shot him with a sleep dart before he could fire. I killed everyone else but I didn't want to kill samuel.
While I'm curious about the rest of the world I'm also very afraid to leave the intimacy of the Isles. What drew me to this world was how personal and close a generic story about the assassination of an Empress became. I'm very attached to Corvo in particular, and I couldn't get into Daud's story that much because it lacked that intimacy I loved so much. The second game, playing as Emily and witnessing her realize her training escapades were still not letting her see the empire as it is, was just as compelling. Navigating the world of Dishonoured is breathtaking and incredibly immersive _because_ you don't need to expand it too much. There is detail and depth in every every design, in every song, in every conversation you overhear; a cultural and social stamp that you can't misidentify when comparing it to other equally distinct but similar game worlds. If there are to be more games in the Dishonoured world, they need to be crafted with as much love and dedication as those we got so far. I don't want this world ruined so it can make more money. I want this gothic, slightly musty but beautiful industrial universe to remain connected to the sea, to the grime and harshness of a culture so enriched by it's depressing erosion.
The way pandissia is described in the intro makes me think of hp love craft describing islanders…. And it’s a good parallel because of dishonored setting
You made me think, the outsider has no stake in the world. He’s, an outsider… Also, with the Lady Boyle one, it is said in the book that she’s able to charm the stalker and escape.
I don't recall why I wanted to look up the lore of Dishonored, I already knew most of this but I absolutely love this video! Your reading of things I already knew somehow captured my attention the entire time. Amazing video, definitely got a sub from me for this.
I just want to go on record saying, if THAT'S what your playthrough looked like, I ABSOLUTELY want to watch it. I watched "Heh heh. AHHHHHH!" about 30 times.
Edit: I've drafted my 3-page Twitter apology for mispronouncing 'Daud'. It will only be released when a full week goes by without mention of it. Hey! Future Tiptoe here. Thanks for checking out these videos! If you'd like to keep up on RU-vid Community info, I'll be posting extra bits of info here in the future: ru-vid.comcommunity As of this post, this is a relatively young channel. I've only really been around since the end of 2020. I hope to be around for the foreseeable future; I'm excited to watch this little passion project grow. More info and content will come with time! Thank you for being here so early in the game. PEACE! -Tip
27:18 the canon choice is giving her to the stalker, in the book " the corroded man" ,its revealed that lady boyle killed lord brisby and took over his estate
honestly while i love death of the outsider for its gameplay, the fact that the goal was to humanize the outsider, this completely indifferent being outside of time and space itself, was kinda... dumb, he shouldve stayed this enigmatic, untouchable force who was the essence of pretty much everything from bleeding out in a dark alleyway to getting your favorite toy for your birthday
Just finished replaying this game through again for the first time and was trying to find some more info on the world that I might've missed.... you hit every single point I wanted to know about perfectly. Video was incredibly well structured and paced. I can't believe this video is under 20k views.
Amazing video quality! The script, your voice and theme it all just fits so perfectly! 🥰 i can't wait what your future videos will bring and when your channel'll blow up Keep up the great work
just found this video as I've been going on a bit of a Dishonoured binge again recently. An amazing and detailed overview of one of the best game franchises of all time. Keep on doing what you're doing! Can't wait to see more x
excellent and short lorethrough which, most importantly, explains how the rat plague got into dunwall, who brought it there. I love how she has explained which choice is more worthy/suitable on certain characters which need to be eliminated!
Thank you for this incredible video. You've brought us a great amount of detail presented through delightful storytelling. This is not only a good recap, it's a great reminder of the world history and backstories that slip the mind over time, or are just not noticed while you're distracted by rat swarms. Qualms: I wish there was a discussion on the Heart, and just a little bit about the powers from the Outsider and the different mechanical defences. I'm guessing this video is mostly for people who completed the game, and those aspects are rather memorable. Thanks again!
My favorite way to play is Clean Hands with the non-lethal options used for the main targets. Hear me out for that (Spoilers btw) Thaddeus Campbell - Marking him as a heretic is the ultimate revenge as he is cast out from the highest power and forced to live as a beggar at best. Custis and Morgan Pendleton - Forced to work in their own mines without their tongues. They can't use their power because no one will know who they are, and those that do will take their chance at revenge on them. Lady Boyle - Force her to live with a creepy guy that will never let her out of her sight again. That's just beyond creepy and death for her would be a mercy. Hiram Burrows - Use the audio log to ruin him, make him live out the rest of his days knowing that he failed not once, but at every turn. Killing any target is the easy way out for them and for you, but doing the extra leg work will make the rest of their lives so very much worse.
I'm just discovering this channel and I'm loving how well you explain everything in this video. I didn't know all this lore about Dishonored (well, to be fair I only played each game once and relatively recently).
Are you a voice actor? Your voice is so soothing and calming...and did you write the script? And with the backdrop of my favour game Dishonoured...I'm so happy to find this channel...already subbed, and hope your channel gains more following
Thank you for those kind words! To answer: I'm not a voice actor, and the videos are all done by myself with occasional additional footage capture help from channel moderator Viryl.
10:20 My, my, you must say, what we experienced from 2020 onwards, and the currently *reported 800 000 dead in the US* , is a plot like this possible in this reality too? .......eerie.... 🤔🤔🤔
I would love to see a short 9 episode show of the Dishonored world, with Arkane's art style. The perfect painted look to capture that Otherworldly Familiarity.
Just gonna point out, even in Dishonored 1, Emily is explicitly aware of Corvo as her father, (she even makes a drawing of Corvo that calls him "Daddy") its also heavily implied that behind closed doors they actually lived like a regular family, but Emily doesn't explicitly call Corvo any fatherly terms because of his lack of nobility and the threat that poses to the throne. (despite functionally every character Corvo meets being pretty clearly aware of it) She's just intentionally keeping it hidden as a facade. Not that doing so exactly makes much sense when she makes one of the drawings and when everyone Corvo meets being pretty aware that Emily is his daughter.
I remember the first time I played this game I did an almost fully non-violent play through except for 1 kill I did on accident at the beginning of the game. Had to replay the whole game just to get the achievement. Lol
Always nice to click on a random lore video and be Blown away by high production quality and fantastic narration. Stupendous work, I shall stick around for a while
Boyle was the only decision that was hard for me, killing her was fucked up since she was basically an innocent, but the less chaotic option was arguably way worse. Ended up taking the terrible non-lethal option since I wanted the 100% "good" ending even though the thought of it made me gag, I consoled myself with the thought that Corvo not being a completely terrible person would send people to rescue her after saving his daughter.
First off, I've recently found your videos and I love them, you have the perfect mix of telling the lore and adding little jokes. Secondly, even the developers admitted Lady Boyle's nonlethal ending was terrible in a way completely different than the other targets, so in the books you learn that a few years after being taken, Boyle's husband disappeared under mysterious circumstances and she was content living with the mansion and wealth he left behind, far from Dunwall.
Holy hell your voice is so cool!! I've just finished reading the first book and now playing the first game.... Out of sync slightly but wow is your voice perfect for this world!! Please do more videos on Dishonored!
Just played this after you recommend it. Finished it one day yesterday. Damn slicing with katana and blinking is so satisfying that I dont care I got chaos ending lul.
@@TiptoeTheTank I know the studio is working on other things, and that the composer sadly passed away, but I do hope we'll get a third game eventually. It seemed they were seeding that the next story would take place in Tyvia, and I would love to go there!
One of the many moments in my gaming experience that made me sit and dwell on a subject is that scene where you come across the man with his friend and he’s holding him just talking to him A very somber moment
I think the canon ending is actually somewhere between high and low chaos. Corvo does kill some people but not everyone. It kinda makes it unique as gane stories go. Most go for the good ending, some go for the evil ending like Legacy of Kain Blood Omen, this one seems to be in the middle. My take anyway
Oh, is that the canon ending? I like that more. I haven't played the second one yet, but I'd be glad to learn that Corvo wasn't the pure, good protagonist type. God knows, no one would blame him. Though I went high chaos in my game. Hopefully he didn't go full postal in the canon ending. 😅
@@TiptoeTheTank I think so though I'm not entirely sure. Haven't played the second one either. It's been a while since I checked but I'm pretty sure that's how it was portrayed in the book that takes place between the games.
@@TiptoeTheTank You guys are actually not far off. Canon isn't perfectly in between high and low chaos...BUT... you are technically right when you say that canon is when Corvo kills some people but not everyone. Low chaos was chosen as the canon ending by majority of the fans based on all the things such as the books and the sequel games. The problem is that people usually think low chaos = no killing, but with the way the game mechanics work, you can actually kill quite a few people and STILL be considered low chaos. Each person contributes an amount of chaos depending on who they are. To explain it simply (this isn't accurate btw just a way to explain it), if you kill a civilian, you add 1 chaos, if you kill a hostile (like a guard), you add 2 chaos and if you kill a target (like the High Overseer), you add 3 chaos. You can actually play through a level, leave everyone alive but kill your target and STILL receive a low chaos rating. Or, alternatively, you could kill a ton of guards but leave your target alive and receive a low chaos rating. Someone on reddit actually tested this out. If we use mission 3 as an example (the amounts change per mission) and you DONT kill the targets or civilians, you can kill 35 hostiles and still receive a low chaos rating. But if you kill 36, you get a high chaos rating. On the other end, if you leave the targets and hostiles alive but kill more than 7 CIVILIANS, you get a high chaos rating (showing that 7 civilians are basically worth the same amount of chaos as 35 hostiles). You can kill ALL the targets and as long as you leave the hostiles and civilians alive, you can still get low chaos. If you choose to leave all the hostiles and civilians alive, you can have the freedom to DECIDE whether each target should live or die. You can choose to mercy kill Lady Boyle if you don't feel right about shipping her off to a psycho or you can decide to kill the Lord Regent as revenge. This is how I personally think Corvo would act.
Canon: D1: - Branded Campbell. (He'll die either way because he'll turn into a weeper if spared) - Killed the twins. Corvo went on a rampage inside the golden cat to find Emily. - Saved Sokolov (ofcourse) - Shipped of Boyle (but later she kills her stalker and becomes even more rich) - Shamed the lord Regent, he'll then get imprisoned and sentenced to die BY Corvo's hand. (So Corvo will kill him either way) - Saved Daud (Duh) - Martin, Havelock and Pendleton all die regardless of what you choose.
Tbh, the pendleton brothers one I'm not 100% sure about because our source material indicates 2 different things. We know that Corvo DID go on a rampage inside the golden cat, but then again from the comics we know that he did establish a friendship with Slackjaw. So it's kinda dubious. The other ones I'm 200% sure about.
23:18 so this was my only problem with this game, it has the moral system of a Star Wars writer aka some of the “”good”” options are actually FAR worse than the “”bad”” option of just killing the target. So an example of a sith option in SWTOR (the Star Wars MMO) you are tasked with boarding a ship and neutralising a defector, you finally get to him and you are given 2 options the lightside choice of handing him over to imperial forces where he will spend the next few weeks of his life been tortured to find out what info he gave to the Republic and to try and get any info he may have gotten from them before been executed publicly (assuming he lives that long) or there is the darkside option of a quick death on the spot. Now to me the quick death on the spot is by far the best option for him ied consider it the lightside option if I was writing the story but no because you killed him it’s bad even thought you are saving him from weeks of torment and pain and it’s the same here and in all the other targets, by not killing them you are condemning the target to a much worse fate but somehow because we didn’t kill them it’s somehow ok (just don’t think about what’s going to happen to them, especially the noble woman we give to her “”admirer”” I sure that will turn out fine…. Right?) Apparently some people think that the worst thing that can happen to a person is death, well as someone that spends most of my time in pain due to a disability there are far worse things than death and mine isn’t even that bad compared to others.
Dude... the audacity to unleash a plague ON PURPOSE to rid a city of lower class - Wow! I actually - literally - said that. Getting back into the Dishonored games, so this is a great refresher. Dark stuff! Also, you have a very nice voice to listen to.
I'm certain Emily knew corvo was her father. But perhaps instructed to not address him as so. To me the smoking gun is an image she draws of corvo that is titled "Daddy"
As much as I understand Hiram wasn't NECESSARILY evil. He was just... Very obsessive about order, which led him down a very dark path... I just cannot fathom how he thought he could possibly keep order and control over a PLAGUE. Like, dude. That is literally one of the few things Humans cannot control, not completely anyhow. Also it's pretty reprehensible that he thought poor people deserved such a fate. So I guess he is kinda evil, but I do think the evil comes more from a place of mental illness, possibly? Like, his obsession with order and extreme paranoia seems to degrade his mental faculties to a degree. Like he is absolutely terrified in the sixth mission if Corvo reveals his presence.
Thank you! I started this game on a whim a few nights ago not really expecting much except a fun game. Playing through it, I felt like... There's got be more. And your video proves exactly that. This game's lore and story is so amazing but to be honest, I didn't feel like reading all the books haha so thank you!
It's kind of chilling to realise, post our own pandemic that Jessemine for all her loveliness & kindness ,royally screwed up handling the plague. I get deportations are step too far, but the lack of quarantine was a bad idea.
