I am glad that there is someone besides me that love to load and shoot the 243 Win. All these new 6mm rounds is crazy. Everyone sees these new rounds and think the round is a miracle round . I won'y change just because someone tries to convince me they have a great new round that can't be beat.

243 is my go to for meat collecting and Sierra 85gr bthp game king is a fantastic dear bullet imo. It kills way above it's weight in my experience but I also like hunting long range coyotes and shooting in general and the 85gr has the bc of a pumpkin lol. It would be great to have a round that does all of the above well! 1-10 twist by the way. Glad you hav these great companies on board for this series, hope they continue to work with you to demonstrate their products to us. Sierra was my dads favorite bullets so I am kinda partial to them but will buy what works best for my use. Looks like Starline Brass is on my Christmas list also ;-) Thanks for what you do, Brian
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 5 лет назад
That's what I like about the 243 so much. You can shoot light varmint bullets all the way up to heavy hunting/match bullets. My 1-9 twist shoots most rounds pretty good.
@baitammo4652
@baitammo4652 5 лет назад
been tempted to trade it for a 1-9 and if mine does not shoot the game changers I may have to look for a new riffle. Mine shoots the 100gr pro hunter great but they have a long bearing surface per length. low bc
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 5 лет назад
I was reading on the Sierra site and they said twist rate doesn't matter with them, then I was reading the reviews on Midway and several people said they wouldn't shoot in a 10 twist.

This is now a few years old. I'm new to 243 and centrefire rifles, as I usually hunt with muzzle loading rifles. I have been using the same powder when I can get it, but use ADI AR2009 which is the same as the H4350. ADI make it and bulk send it to Hodgdon to repackage. I would like to see you try the Hornady ELD-X 90grn bullets, as that's the one very little is shown about on RU-vid! I hope you can, cheers.

What 243 rifle is the best bang for the money I'm looking into Remington 700 sps in 243 what do ya think? And what length of barrel out too say 500 yards ?
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 5 лет назад
I would think that would be a good choice. Barrel length depends to me on what you are going to do with the rifle. If its a bench gun, I would go with a longer barrel. If you plan on hunting with it I would go with a shorter lighter barrel. Something in the 22" range should fit most needs.

Where does everyone get a better powder pan for the cheap scale. I have the Woaow or whatever, that JRB uses, but I kinda hate the small plastic powder pan.
@JohnnysReloadingBench
@JohnnysReloadingBench 5 лет назад
I feel bad for you, brother...that little plastic pan is awful! The golden RCBS pans are out of stock everywhere right now. Their RCBS part number is 98917. Those pans are great but extremely expensive ($20-25). Redding also sells an aluminum pan that would be much better than what you're using now. They are in stock at Midway for $9.29. Just search "powder pan" over there and it will be the top result. The Redding part number is 99107 if you want to search elsewhere. Good luck!

Hey Josh, do you find the heaver Lee Breech lock press sturdy enough for rifle brass or did you have to make the steel support for it to make it that way ? Would you change presses if you could ? Looking for a good single stage to start loading rifle brass ! Starline Rifle Brass Box ? No Crimp ?

No I haven't. I think most flavors of 4350 are similar, but not exact copy's of each other. You will need to work up a load with each one.

How do you clean the bore on your .243?
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 5 лет назад
I rarely clean bolt guns. Probably every 500 or so rounds I run a little CLP Bore and Bolt with a brush and patch. I go by the rule don't clean until you see a drop in accuracy.

I am going to lobby that you go for an SWFA 3-15x42 ffp they normally go for 700 bucks. But sometimes you can catch them on sale for $550 they track perfectly. They are mil spec and have a navy contract no. For what it's worth.

Need to ask a question. Haven’t reloaded the 90 grain 243 yet as Sierra tells me that thy will it stabilize in my new 1/10” twist Sauer classic. Can anyone advise?
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 3 года назад
I have shot 105s out of my 1-9. I my opinion you should be fine. A lower charge from a shorter barrel might not stabilize but more than likely it will be fine.

What’s your opinion on hunting deer sized game and hogs with the .243?? I’ve always loved the round but never owned or hunted with it before. I live in Pennsylvania with a mixture of hard woods and open farmland where shots can range from 30 yards to 350 yards.
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 5 лет назад
We are shotgun only for deer here in IL. Just based on what I have seen, It's a great caliber for deer sized game with the right projectile, but I have no personal experience.

@@243Outdoors I have shot a bunch of deer with Sierra 85gr bthp game kings and one round any place in the ribs is devastating. It's all about bullet placement! Shot in the knee with a 7 mag is no better than a 223! Never shot a pig but as long as you stayed away from varmint type bullets I would think the 243 win would do well. The Sierra 85gr game king is a dandy bullet and I hope to find the Game Changers do as well!!

I've been away from reloading for a little while. Some guy crimp 243 others don't. Anybody got any thoughts.
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 5 лет назад
Pretty much all jacketed rounds for a rifle I do not crimp. I would consider it for a 223 in an AR Platform if it had a cannelure. I feel it messes with the neck tension. When I first started reloading I crimped 243's just because I had the die. It was just a slight crimp, but I quickly went away from it because I didn't see the need.

Velocity 3200 FPS. WAS my favorite rifle til the cabin burned down & destroyed it. Was HELL on wolves from 2-600 yds. 1 tiny entry, no exit. Hell of a mess on the inside thou. Forget the exact charge ( Was hot) but DO remember the velocity.

@keithlucas6260
@keithlucas6260 3 года назад
I have a 1968 Remington 700 ADL in .243 Winchester. You just can't go wrong with the 700 series. Also is the Winchester model 70 series of rifles. Next is the Ruger American Predator series which can be had for around $450ish at Academy Sports. They also carry Savage Axis, Mossberg and Thompson Center Fire. For me the bolts are a little loose on the newer rifles, so hitting the pawn shops and shooting ranges can find you a nice older heirloom well kept rifle with scope for under your $800 budget range. I've got the new Ruger American Predator in .300 Win Mag for the big stuff, and the 700 ADL for varmints to deer.....happy rifle hunting and hoping you find ammo for it.
