I like a 243 for its dual purpose, varmint and deer.

Good work, Sir! Great shooting, as always. I bet those bullets would work well in 270 Winchester. I ‘m just about to start loading for that rifle. It’s a Sako AV made in the late ‘80’s. I bought some Hornady Interlock 130 grain bullets last night.

I was looking and there are no videos on the 243's. I am trying to cover everything from loading them, to taking them out to 1000 yards.

I put a 6.5x20 Nikon on my 243 Ackley for that same reason. When I had a 12x on that same rifle the crosshair would cover up a sage rat completely at 500.

I can tell you're really enjoying this. And I love your point at the end that for hunting purpose, you don't need to get carried away with tiny tiny groups at great distances. I've shot 66 deer in my hunting career, and the overall average distance (Bow, shotgun, and rifle) is only 42 yards. Just counting centerfire rifles, my average distance is only 60 yards. Long range and target shooting is a heck of a lot of fun, but all I really need in a hunting rifle (where and how I hunt) is enough accuracy to give me confidence to make that clean shot through small holes in the trees. (BTW, I'm hunting wooded hills in Tennessee and Michigan farmlands, not wide open spaces out West. That's a different game.

It's been a lot of fun. Here in IL, it's shotgun only for deer and usually 100 yds is your max shot.

Yep, there are benefits to the FFP, but that thick reticle is a bummer. I can't help but wonder if a SFP scope would have been beneficial at longer distances. Impressive shooting, and reloading.

Which Primers u using?? I finally broke down & got JAN her favorite rifle, a 243. (Just to shut her up. Shes been.bugging me since I got MY 6.5 C.M.) A savage Axis stainless. Came w a Tasco 3x9 so I put a Primary Arms 4x12x 44 Scope on it w the fine line mil dot crosshair. After my customary 100 round bbl break in (And ya, Im "one of thoes guys about proper break ins). Its printing 1.5 @ 300. And thats w crappy Wal Mart Winchester XPs. Cant wait to get back to Alaska & start reloading again. Am recording your load developing into my new loadbooks. Our cabin burned down & we lost EVERYTHING. Worst loss was her old remington 243 which was SUPER accurate w 85 grain blits. 1 hole 100 yds. Our stream was 110 yds below the cabin & Jan regularly blew ducks heads off for dinner w HER rifle. I had an old Sako 22 Hornet that shot likewise. Both of them burned up along w most of our other guns. I was heartbroken about gun losses. Cabins can be rebuilt but thoes old tackdrivers are "once in a lifetime." In any case, love your vids. Sidenote; I CANT hit anything wearing gloves. We had special shooting gloves up north where the trigger finger cover pulled back for total touch control. Makes ALL the difference for me. I set Jans 243 at 2.1 lbs & my 6.5 @ 2.4 lbs. Love a light trigger & set her accutrigger all the way back. Works great after a good dremel polish on the sears. We live remote & hunt to eat & the 1st ( Sometimes ONLY) shot has GOT to count.

great vids thank you , have you ever tried to construct a load for use with a s/moderator that is just subsonic , as here in the uk we have probs with neighbours etc being so close and the need to shoot foxes at night ?

No I haven't shot any subsonic rifle rounds yet.

Nice shooting brother! I know that different brands of rifles with the same twist rate barrels may or may not handle a particular bullet the same but do you have access to a 243 with a 1-10 twist to see if they will stabilize? Perhaps borrow a friends? If not I'll have to buy a box and try them myself. If 1-10 will handle them it will be huge for the 1-10 guys that want to stretch things out and still have great hunting performance when the bullet gets there! Thanks for the fantastic content!
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 5 лет назад
Go read the reviews on Midway. It seems to me they are 50-50 on the 1-10 twist. So that tells me that barrel length and velocity are the determining factor for a 10 twist. I'll have to see if I can come up with one.
@baitammo4652
@baitammo4652 5 лет назад
@@243Outdoors I have a 26 in tube and I don't mind running them a little close on pressure signs so that is sounding good. I've heard that having just enough twist is sometimes better stabilized than spinning them too fast but I don't know. Thanks again, I'll check out the comments on Midway and probably place an order! Where is the best place to pick up Star line brass? From Starline?
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 5 лет назад
The prices of Starline seem about the same from them or other sites, but 250 is the minimum order directly from them for $125. Midway has 50 rounds for $25.

I have bought the 90gr TGK to try in my 6 mm A.I., how far were you off the lands?
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 5 лет назад
I chambered a bullet in a fired case and was getting around. 2.930" touching the lands. These are loaded to 2.750". So that's .180 jump. Quite a bit. My 95g TMK's I load them at 2.840"

@@243Outdoors hi its me again , ive just got a Lee loader kit and it states on the data sheet maximum oal for a 243 is 2.710" , how much tolerance is there in the real world , as you seem to have an aol greater than that , unless I am more than confused lol.
