@creamfilled08
@creamfilled08 5 лет назад
Her niece was murdered in a mass shooting in November, her grandmother passed away in December, her friend Jussie was either the victim of a hate crime or he attempted to pull off a hoax of a hate crime in January. If it wasn't a hoax that means its awful, if it was a hoax its just as awful (worse IMO) so she must be feeling disillusioned about everything. Worrying for her children's safety. It may not be a lot to some but pain shouldn't be compared since pain is pain. How awful would it be if people showed some compassion for her and also each other?

A person can get shot anywhere but in some places shootings are more likely to occur. It is more LIKELY (statistically speaking) that she could get shot there. But I see what you’re saying. Because regardless of the “times” we’re in, it would still be dangerous to be out that late in Watts, so it was kind of irrelevant to the discussion.
@xoMari24
@xoMari24 5 лет назад
When my daughter was 4, several years ago, we were in a public bathroom and she actually looked at me and said "if a bad man comes with a gun, we have to stand on the toilets like this so they don't see our feet and know we're in here." it absolutely crushed my heart that it was something that she was already being taught in school but i understood it was absolutely necessary because of today's social climate. There were two or three days out of the year where the active shooter drill scared her so much, that she cried at school and as a parent that hurt me and brought me to tears when discussing with the teacher. I hate that I want to protect her at all costs... but its clear I can't. All it takes is being out in public on the wrong day at the wrong time for something like this to happen. There definitely needs to be stricter gun control. Just look at Friday's Illinois workplace shooting. That shooter had a felony domsetic conviction for beating his girlfriend and still managed to get his gun license, AND buy a gun LEGALLY. Somehow he passed background checks with a felony conviction. My prayers are with those victims and their families. Edit: nowhere in my above comment do I say that I believe guns should be illegal. I am pro second amendment, however after getting my gun license I saw how easy it was to have access to such a powerful weapon and we should value our citizens to know that a change should happen to make it SAFER.
@Baxfam1
@Baxfam1 5 лет назад
If he was a felon, he obtained the gun illegally. If guns become illegal do you think the bad guys will stop getting guns? No. Ever heard of the black market? Making guns illegal will only keep the good guys from being able to have guns for protection. The bad guys won't stop.
@ASHSID
@ASHSID 5 лет назад
we were taught stuff like that a couple of times a year every year
@xoMari24
@xoMari24 5 лет назад
Aletheia Backs actually he obtained it legally because his background checks came back clean although he was convicted for the felony. When he applied for his carry license they took his fingerprints, realized he was a felon and asked him to surrender the weapon which he never did. He then went on to kill 5 innocent people because he was fired from his job. All of this should’ve been prevented because the gun should’ve never landed in his hands.
@xoMari24
@xoMari24 5 лет назад
D while that is true, the shooter was mentally ill and this was known and documented. That is why my comment states gun control should also take into consideration mental health, a huge issue. When I applied for a gun license, they ran a background check and that’s it. I could be insane with no record and a gun would be easy to access. That’s dangerous.

That bout made me cry reading that. I have a 4 year old niece in America and I don't think she understands that sort of thing yet (and they do at that age too), and I hope she never does, but who am I kidding? For me I was taught when i was little (im 31 now) to look for all exits everywhere hotels, restaurants everywhere not just because of guns or people that could hurt you but because of fires or natural disasters. My dad wanted me to be prepared he said cuz if you are at a restaurant and a fire breaks out you need to know all possible exists cuz the one you know could be blocked so you need to know in case. So for me its always been a thing to be aware of where you are and how to be safe not just because of people but because other uncontrollable things. So this to me isn't "the new normal" because anything can happen not just a person with a gun and it's not being paranoid it's just being aware so that of something does happen either a fire, earthquake guy with a gun ect you know how to get out quickly. This to me should just be something you do for safety in general

@tayeshahudson4794
@tayeshahudson4794 5 лет назад
Scrimpy Gore Actually bad guys would still have access to guns. Obtaining illegal guns is just as easy for some as it is getting illegal drugs in America. So although I know from the outside it looks easy to just say "you know what no more guns! We have taken away everybody's right to bear arms." You know what will happen? Someone that really wants one and is planning on criminally using it will get one. Just like when they made it illegal to sell or drink liquor or to have an abortion. People found ways around it. The same goes for guns. They will find a way. So then now you will just have crazy deranged people in the possession of a gun and others without. Don't get me wrong I HATE the fact that people can get a gun LEGALLY and cause havoc on so many people's lives. What I do believe should happen is the laws need to be more strict. The background checks need to be more thorough. You should not have mental issues and be allowed to get a gun LEGALLY. Again it won't stop them from obtaining one necessarily BUT it would slow down the process of getting one. AND that person would be on a HIGH ALERT status as a threat. In the situation where the man shot up his former workplace that should have NEVER HAPPENED! WHEN he didn't turn over his gun, the police should have been at his residence within a couple of hours with a swat team. That could have saved lives.

I am crying watching this and its sad but it kind of is a new normal. I mean as a child you're always taught to be aware of your surroundings and people and the way they move. It's sad that you actually have to live that way everyday of your life. I just try my best to get through the day with prayer and not live in fear just live alert. I know that at any given point and time something out of my control can happen. sigh. Tamera girl I am praying for you and your family. Im praying for us all. XOXO.

Umm Jeanie I'm a bit confused.. if you feared for your life at a "reggae" club in "watts" then what were you doing there to begin with?? You were clearly trying to paint a certain picture the way you described the environment so if it made you that uncomfortable then you probably had no business being there.. you made a concious decision with your friends to go to that club and have the nerve to go on national tv acting like a scared victim after the fact.. Bad things can happen ANYWHERE AT ANYTIME WE ALL KNOW THIS .... If you know you’re going into a neighborhood that is known for being unsafe Jeanie isn’t wrong it’s amazing that she was so aware because many of us know a certain place is unsafe and we’re not that aware soo I personally don’t think she is wrong for what she said or her thought process.

Jeanie I love you but you can't be so naive to take yourself into a bad part of town in the wee hours of the morning. I'm not saying it's her fault that those places are like that and she shouldn't live her life and have a good time, OR that it would be her fault if something bad happened to her, but that's the reality of the world we live in now. Don't increase your chances of something horrific happening. They're high enough as it is.

I couldn’t agree more with Loni. This reminded me of how Saddened I felt to see schools practicing Alice drills, which is pretty much a drill on what to do if theres an active shooter in the school. They have these drills a couple of times a month at my childs school & I felt so broken because I just questioned myself how devastating is it to explain to a 5 year old what to do in these types of cases.. like how do you go about explaining this to a small child who is completely innocent to evil. I remember back it my days when there was only such thing as an Earthquake drill.

It always feels somewhat distant until it hits right in your home. In my city we had somebody come from SOMEWHERE ELSE just to massacre our hispanic community at a freaking *Walmart.* We were the safest metropolitan city in America with the lowest rates of violent crime for years. Nearly 30 killed and it'll never ever be the same. I wouldn't wish that pain on my worst enemy. Now in our city we tell each other not to ever let terrorism win. Daring to live freely despite those who would rather you not live at all is how we honor those who've been lost. Don't ever let anybody terrorize you into denying your own heart and soul ♥️ I pray every day for solutions. Much love from El Paso, Texas 🏜️
