Part 25 of the R8 Rover 216 GTi 16v twincam restoration vlog.
I the previous video I had to modify the pattern-part outer sill after a seller sold me the wrong side. They're not interchangeable as most patternpart sills include frear arch flange and front 'tucked in' lip. I had to cut off both ends and turn it 180 degrees and then still had to hammer form a dropped line to match the original factory pressing. Ironically since doing all this, the Rover 200/400 Owners Club has commissioned a set of nearside and offside lower quarter panel and sill outers for the three door R8 Rover. Oh well. At least I don't have to go through this hassel for when I rebuild the passenger side of the car.

This seams to have been a long job but they did like to rust a lot. Never easy with pattern parts either. Remember one of your previous videos where you had to adjust the radius on one of the creases to match it up to the existing body work. Love seing the various processes at work. Keep up the good work. 👍

Thanks, the car doesn't seem to be fighting me so much now. Got more videos on the way. Got to find a way of heating the garage because I was freezing my balljoints off yesterday.

@@TK42138 It looks a bit tight I there too but I'd still take that over working on the driveway. This time last year I had a gazebo up at the front of my house. 😅 Still they are worth our sacrifice. I'd still love an R8 at some point as my Grandad owned two brand new.

@@markonmotoring Certainly needed to manage the space available. Can only work on one side of the car at a time - although that's beneficial as it stops risk of chopping too much of the shell out and risking distortion. Have a feeling the passenger side is a bit worse than the driver's side. Rust seems to be very localised and got two more patches to do on drivers sill then that side will be structurally finished. Painting will have to wait until either I get garage heating or next year when it warms up.
