After receiving several reports of visitors feeding and trying to hold a young black bear, Blue Ridge Parkway officials closed an eight-mile section of the scenic drive. Biologist Tom Davis discussed why these interactions are dangerous for humans AND bears. #news #blueridgeparkway #wildlife

Glad to hear they shut down the area before something bad happened. It's amazing the ignorance of so many people. They endanger the wildlife and humans. Watching the ignorance of people in our country over the past few years has been horrifying.

We have Florida black bear all over they don't harm a soul. But people from other places come in and cause problems. This is their home people plop their house right in the middle of the bears home then want the bears removed. I have lived here in this area of Florida for 14 years seen quite a few up close but they don't bother pets or anything maybe a garbage can. When it's so hot in the summer they may get in your pool. It's stupid to try to pet any wild creature.

Wild animals do not stand a chance because humans think feeding them is a good thing to do. These $/@$”- humans are also teaching their children that it is okay. God gave mankind dominion over the animals; that means respecting them as they are. Some are predators, some are not. But testing them is just dumb, for both animals and humans. Having to close off part of Virginia’s Parkway is ridiculous! May God speed you way home!

WHAT?!? Wild Bears aren't All Cute and Cuddly?? Even "Yogi" a Yellowstone Grizzly, was Always such a Nice Fellow. I grew up on Winnie the Pooh, and the Bernstein Bears. That's how we learned to Read. My morning Honey is even dispensed from a plastic "bear." I Tell Ya: if I ever get injured, playing with a Park Bear, I'm suing the Government AND the public school system!

Black bears are nice we have them all over their is never a problem until someone moves into the area and life has to change to fit their agenda. It's mankind that's mean stupid really. I saw a girl at a bus stop eating a sandwich and a black bear came up to her and in her girly voice said "no go away" and the bear did it just sondered off.

We are talking about black bears how about the park rangers. The state deeper back in the woods Forrest dumping some food so bears do not have to go on the road high way. Bull... I've been up in Smokies so many times. Even in the 60's, there were signs saying not to feed them. Just of course Nobody listened. I've got a Picture of one of pull offs going up to Cherokee NC. In spring '72. With a now classic Mercury Cougar in pic. I was at that point 10 yrs old. My grandfather had came down to visit us. We all headed to mountains. I'd already been up to Cherokee many times. Just so happened that day as we got to lookout, we walked between the Cougar & another car. Realized we were 10 ft from a bear- backed away slowly and moved couple cars down. With so much family in the mountains, we knew not to tempt bears. My great great uncle still had a cabin with zero plumbing or electric until mid 70's. Lived outside Delrio TN. . Can rest assured there's always been signs.
