Can someone please explain Falcon vs Viper. I know it was Viper when it was in testing, but as a kid the F-16 was always a Fighting Falcon. I know that the V variant is called Viper, but did pilots always call them Vipers? CW let us know!
@CWLemoine

Pilots have called it the Viper since its inception. Now only nerds and Eagle Drivers call it the Fighting Falcon. Later, LockMart created a new variant and called it the Viper officially. #TheMoreYouKnow

@SpearM3064
@SpearM3064 4 года назад
No joke, at full afterburner at low altitude, 800 pounds would be gone in about 45 seconds. Even if he was only flying at full military power, you're looking at 6-10 minutes depending on altitude (and 10 minutes might be stretching it). Having said that, the F-16 *is* capable of supercruise (barely!) with a clean loadout, and at this point he's got to be pretty close to that. So he *might* be able to take her to Mach 1 without afterburners, but he wouldn't be able to stay there long.

I recently discovered the channel and came across this reaction video and had to laugh; I was 10 when this movie came out and I remember it being so awesome. lol. Wow though, seeing it again...it certainly was a cheesy movie. :) Between this, Top Gun, and The Final Countdown, I so wanted to become a fighter pilot when I was a kid. I remember my dad taking me to an airshow in Toronto one time and I got to talk to a RCAF CF-18 pilot. I asked him if I could become a pilot, even though I didn't have 20/20 vision, and I distinctly remember him saying I'd have to be a navigator first and then maybe I could transition to a pilot. I kept hearing you had to have perfect vision, etc, so I let that dream go. I should have made them "tell me no". :) BTW speaking of old movies, have you ever seen The Final Countdown? It's sort of a silly movie but there are some great shots of F-14s fighting Zeros. :)

My brother was number one in his class at Vance during the Viet Nam war and after that was an instructor. His dad was killed when he was two at the Army Ammunition Plant in an explosion when he was two so I'm 15 years older. He would take me out and sit me in the seat of a T-38 at eight years old and I was in heaven. Back then he would buzz our town (McAlester, OK) all the time when that was legal (or actually the Air Force didn't find out about it). It's pretty cool to be in the second grade in a small town with your brother buzzing it and doing afterburner climbs and aileron rolls over your town about once a month. Back then, it was painted white and called the "white rocket". So, I love your videos.

"Not as good as Top Gun" 8-year-old me certainly agreed, but when I got older I came to like Iron Eagle more than Top Gun overall. The characters are easier for me to latch onto and sympathize with than those in Top Gun I guess, and I just find the whole premise of Iron Eagle more enjoyable, despite being massively less believable. Top Gun definitely has better production value all around though... better sound, better original score (though IE had some awesome licensed music in it), better visual effects, better cinematography, etc. Ultimately it's down to personal preference, as with all entertainment media. I certainly don't have anything against someone liking Top Gun more, and I'll always think fondly of both films :)

Wow this was real. For the longest time I was convinced this movie was just a hallucination from my childhood memories.

Your comments reminds me of seeing this with my dad, he was USAF active duty Lt.Col & I was a 16, freshman AFROTC @ UIUC. I took him to see it & he walked out half way though it ticked... I'll be 100 & remember what he said... "Boy, you invite me to one of these B%$% so-called AF movies again.. You're gonna go missing like Louis Gossett Jr career has, your mother will never know it was me!!' I'm completely serious... I've always believe it was mostly because Gossett call sign was the same as General Daniel "Cappie" James. He flew with him in Vietnam... p.s. I skipped asking if he wanted to see Top Gun w/ me later that year & I used that same type Walkman sitting on Zulu Alert... Good times..

The F-16 is 76-1-5. Doug Masters has 5 kills and his dad, “The Colonel” has the 1 loss?
@sparrowlt
@sparrowlt 3 года назад
actually ..does the backseater count for the kill? his dad has 2 kills at the start of the movie..and is riding backseat for 3 more.. would that put him as an Ace? Also Doug gets 4 MIGs , 1 more on the ground (does that count too?) and 2 helos.. so he definitily would be an ace

"shouldn't it be iron viper though really?" Exactly what young me always thought. Even before I watched the movie, I pictured it to be an f15 movie not an f16 with that title...

Awesome video we have a lot in common. Top Gun Maverick was worth the wait. They show some of the greatest jet films. Mainly showing the gun because that’s what being a great fighter pilot is all about. ♠️❤️

For all the problems with this movie, it gets a lot right. Using actual HUD footage really sells it. You have to ignore the reverse angle in the cockpit every time though because it NEVER matches what is going on. But it's some of the most beautiful footage of F16s ever. And the soundtrack is awesome. :D

Oh man I’m so glad I found this. Great to relive it. Thanks so much. I laughed a tonne. IE was one of my favourite movies as a kid. Watched it WAYYY to many times. I mean who doesn’t want to fly with a cassette player on your knee in a stolen F-16 and save the day??!!! Haha. There was some good footage though. As I kids we even used to buy vhs tapes of real fighter pilots taking about combat and showing real HUD footage and all the magazines and we were of 10 or 11 at the time. I still remember watching Top Gun and seeing Maverick push forward on the stick to go up and pull back on the throttle for speed anf we where like what??? Err no... that’s wrong. Lol. Movie magic stuff though for effect. Like the you mention the wrong trigger being used yeah you can’t shoot it or at least not easily. Now I’m a cinematographer. 😁

The harness was on Ted Masters because Doug ordered for him to be "brought to the northern most runway in full flight gear". Whole time he was in jail it was just the flight suit.

That was the orginal flight suit Major Masters was shot down in. Doug told the "bad guy nation" to make sure he was wearing it. I'm guessing the ladder & helmet where secured in the back seat of Doug's F16.

you mentioned a-10 vs migs. reminded me of 2 stories. the first, friend of a friend of a friend was an a-10 pilot in tucson, showed us some gun cam footage of him flying against 2 f-16. one of the f16 flew across the gun arc, he scored a "kill" on that one but the second one got him right after. it was black and white and just blurs on the screen. pretty cool though. the second story is my friend flies f18 for usmc, said a-10s will go into what he called a "hog wheel"? if i remember correctly. where a pair of a-10s will fly in a tight circle against fighters so that the a-10 gun is always pointing at a bad guy. anyway, just my 2 cents, really enjoy your videos. thanks
