We'll take you through the steps of this new machine build. We design and build her from the ground up in a method we have wanted to try for a while geared towards reducing build time without compromising performance.
This will be a six-part series of the entire build process from design to machine testing.
Subscribe and turn on notifications, more videos to come!
Part One (DESIGN) - Model, specs, and basic design ideology of the build.
Part Two (FABRICATION) - Fitment and welding of the chassis components.
Part Three (ASSEMBLY) - Fitment of the rails and screws, assembly of all the components.
Part Four (WIRING) - Cabling, controller, and systems wiring.
Part Five (COMPLETION) - Wrapping everything up, tunning, and first moves.
Part Six (FEATURES) - Some testing, material cutting, and additional design features.
We have been using this machine for over a year, and will also include a performance review of the design.
Enjoy!

Your rod and clamp additions to the design are pretty brilliant, its a great way to get around buying a 5k fixture table.

Thanks! Yeah they worked great.

Looks sturdy, is the design open?

Additionally if you need some flat mounting surface for the rails, you can copy the straight edge surface (replication method) using metal epoxy (jb weld). I'm doing this on my CNC on a surface plate and get flatness of ~2um. I have a (shitty) short video about it on my channel.

I checked out the video, very interesting. Flat and straight on the resolution of machining equipment is a difficult concept to process when you realize that nothing in a typical shop comes very close to either, specifically when building something larger like a CNC. It changes the way you have to think about building these things, and that's a great tip! Thank you.

Wouldn't TIG welding have put less heat into the part? I am not being smart, I only have a MIG so I dont know other than what I have read.

You have more control over your heat with a TIG, in real time. MIG is more set and forget and you can certainly over heat your part but it works just fine if you get your settings right and your material is consistent.

is that a diy kit?

No, we designed the machine from the ground up. The Part One video has more info on our design process.
