This is part six where we will try out some cutting to find out what's wrong with the machine. We design and build her from the ground up in a method we have wanted to try for a while geared towards reducing build time without compromising performance.
This will be a six-part series of the entire build process from design to machine testing.

Part One (DESIGN) - Model, specs, and basic design ideology of the build.
Part Two (FABRICATION) - Fitment and welding of the chassis components.
Part Three (ASSEMBLY) - Fitment of the rails and screws, assembly of all the components.
Part Four (WIRING) - Cabling, controller, and systems wiring.
Part Five (COMPLETION) - Wrapping everything up, tunning, and first moves.
Part Six (FEATURES) - Some testing, material cutting, and additional design features.
We have been using this machine for over a year, and will also include a performance review of the design.
If you would like to check out the MASSO G3 controller we used, here's MASSO's product page:

Enjoy!

Can you show what improvements did you make to stop the vibrations? I didn't quite understand what you were saying.

Interesting form factor and versatility ! I like how you share the problems as you go through them. Looks like these weak ER spindles will hold the machine back, though !

Thanks! Yes the spindle is definitely holding it back, we use this machine everyday and if I can pull it out of service for a bit I will be replacing it with something else for sure.

Thanks! Yeah I was blown away, got tired of checking everything else on the machine then finally decided to check the spindle haha

Should have started with chip load. Also full speed with spindle not so good for metals with 24k rpm lol

Many, many mistakes were made haha

@@DIVCNC I still make them daily. I am a hobbyist lol. I make mistakes every 5 minutes on a good day

I will be ready for one of these machines soon!! Need a video on going from Fusion360 through the Cam process then to the machine to cut the part.

Шпиндель после такого под замену!! вам нужен шпиндель от 4-8 полюсов и желательно er25 там подшипники покрепче.

Nice build. Looks like you are using an end mill not made for aluminum. You want 2 or 3 flute uncoated/bright or a coating that does not have Aluminum in it (not TiAlN, etc). These end mills are also typically sharper. The edges of steel cutting end mills are often honed to reduce chipping. At least that’s how it’s l been explained to me.

Thanks for the tip, I was certainly doing a lot wrong haha

Cool build guys 👍🏼 . Those spindles aren’t meant for hogging really. The high RPM + low torque really lends itself to end mills under 1/4 diameter, and less flutes to accommodate the high rpm. Using 3/8-1/2 end mills with a lot of flutes requires way too much torque that these spindles usually don’t offer. And even if they could, your SFM would need to be sky high (not good for steppers). I know because I used to try it all the time 4 years ago when I had a spindle just like that lol. May want to consider Zrn single flute endmills with this setup, or a 30 taper spindle. I have a BT30 mill now and it’s night and day from my old machine. Best wishes

Thanks for the input, we knew it was a long shot but couldn't help ourselves haha. That's great advice, I will certainly incorporate it into a future build.

Are you planning to sell this as a plan or kit? If you do, take my money 😆
@DIVCNC
@DIVCNC Год назад
Yes! It most likely will be a kit and we will definitely be selling them soon. We wanted to put at least a thousand commercial hours on a couple machines before we sold anything to anyone, which we have now done. All the downfalls with this machine have been addressed and incorporated to the saleable model.
