I love the meaning behind this album. After their second album, which the concept is God and Satan’s final battle, this is an alternate idea that the two of them just disappear and the human race is left to fend for themselves. Each song is a dialogue between a priest who lost his faith after God and Satan disappear, and his daughter who was an atheist who begins to question whether or not God is actually gone. The girl on the front cover within the broken pentagram represents the girl who starts her journey of faith. On the point of worship, way too many people focus on the vehicle of worship (music, prayer, Bible reading, etc.) and how it is released to the world (instrumentation, vocalization, technology (E-Bibles), live teachings, etc.) that they lose focus of the heart of worship. It is not the how we worship, it’s the who and the why we worship that we need to focus on. People that say rock is of the Devil fail to realize that Jesus was a rebel and, quite a few times, told people to almost seem like enemies to their families, friends, and even country with some things that He said. We don’t pay enough attention to the weight of the things that He says, especially in the Sermon on the Mount. It has created complacent, lukewarm Christians that fight way too much. Stuff that I said above is why we have so many denominations of Christians and why the world just looks at us as another religion with a bunch of rules. The way the modern church is set up is, and I am sure of this, not how Christ would have wanted it. I really don’t know how to fix it because we, as humans, are very prideful and are very resistant to change. This rant may have been pointless, but hopefully someone gets something out of it.
Absolutely. Religion really is meaningless in a sense. The most important part is to have a true relationship with Jesus. No ammount of church attendance and singing makes up for it. I feel that people think that just because they sing and go to church that's all there is to it. They're forgetting the most important part. Love you my friend. May the Lord be with you!
Yes metalcore. My son and I are going to see Oh Sleeper on May 4th. Can't wait. My son is friends with the lead singer of a signed and touring Christian metalcore band called XII Minutes. Really good band, you should review something by them. Another great Christian metalcore band is Fit For A King.

The pentagram in its original form was a Christian symbol representing God over His creation. Over the years, it has been altered to its current form, a five-pointed star. As you can see here 2 points of the star are missing indicating Satan's horns have been ripped off. A symbol of God defeating Satan. I seen in an interview the lead singer exlaining this years ago.

You should revisit this song with some context on how the album was written. The lead vocalist has an interview where he goes into a little detail about the story arch. The album takes place after the end of Oh Sleepers second album called Son of The Morning. In this song, The Finisher, God defeats Satan in a violent display of power, cutting off his horns in the process. This album, also called Children of Fire, starts with Satans horns falling to Earth and both God and Satan disappearing without a trace. This leaves the world in turmoil, because in this universe, both God and Satan were tangible beings, physically capable of showing themselves and being seen. With their disappearance, the world gives into desires since there is no fear of hell and no reward of heaven. the album follows an "over zealous" father who feels like he has been betrayed and abandoned by God. Through the course of the album, you begin to realize that his understanding of God and the spiritual relationship with God were both superficial and shallow. His atheist daughter, however, has the exact opposite reaction to the events that she witnessed with her own eyes. Instead of believing that God and Satan had just died or vanished, the writer of the album states that she starts questioning the things around her as her faith develops. The last song, Children of Fire, is supposed to be the destruction of earth. This song is the culmination of the hardships that the daughter has had to deal with; both physically and spiritually. Begging for release and only wanting to serve, the daughter and the other believers are rewarded with rain of fire that destroyed everyone else but saved them. This is also accompanied by what seems like an ascension or something like the rapture. Their bodies are no longer in need of air since they know breathe the essence of God. Crazy shit. Micah did a great job on explaining the meaning of the album and you can see it in the lyrics of the rest of the songs on the album. In the Wake of Pigs is a great example of that, which another person in here had mentioned. I'm not religious but this was just a great album with some really cool lore to go along with it.
