The doors of the church is open... 2 chairs in front of the alter. Placed there by Deacon so-and-so. Mother board sitting on the front row all dressed in white. Pastor wearing a black robe with crosses on each side of the sash draped on him. Chior getting ready to give an A and B selection. Sister so-in-so reading the announcements. Hammond B3 organ and upright piano playing. Collection plate with red velvet bottom being passed around and hand fans with Martin Luther King picture on it waving everywhere. Happy times!!!
We used to sing and then MOAN this song! What a time what a time!! A deacon would be on his knees praying and the spirit pf the Lord would be Overwhelming!!! Tylertown, MS

i rememeber sitting in church as a little girl hearing them sing this song- my mother eyes shut tightly her beautriful voice chiming in, the old deacon leading with his war torn weary voice and the preacher egging him on with " yes sir" and "yeah Lord"... Now 30 years later I am professional classical singer but i still rememeber the beautiful hyms and love to sing spirituals and hyms while cleaning or driving or when i just feel it-else i seldom hear it these days
im 20 and remember all of these...IT DOESNT MATTER HOW OLD YOU ARE....its the old folk who pass these songs down....MY SISTER IS 9 AND CAN SING ALL THESE
When I heard this song, I knew the plate was about to get passed around, again, again, and again. And they won't stop singing until it was full. Mt. Pisgah Baptist Memphis Tn. And that's the truth.
My God My God! Hearing this brings me comfort. Deacon LC Anderson I can hear you singing this now. It was the sweetest melody I ever heard as a child and I was blown away that you could sing! This stuck with me and I will never forget it or you! I miss you so much paw paw. Rest in love Deac🤍😘
Thank u for posting. This still does more for me than half of the secular gospel today. The sounds of a people at a time when they where known for praising and believing in Yehowah.
this really sat down within me.whoooo i feel it all over me. this old stuff as some may call it does it for me. i don't need nothing new just give me this right here

Funny how as a child i never knew what this was. I would visit my grandparents in MS and we were in deep South like non-paved dirt road South. One of the deacons would stand up and start singing this (sigh) i can see it just like yesterday.......
