Also not mentioned in the video, GOLD will be used to respec passive skill points instead of Orbs of Regret Who's excited for the weapon swap tech in PoE2?

I think they should move this to end game.. I don't see any major use for it when leveling up through the campaign unless it's really easy to respec

@@xXVintersorgXx It does not have to be "Major" to be very usefull. (also yes, they mentioned it will be very cheap early on and then scale in price as you progress) There have been plenty of times i had to respec parts of my tree during campaign. Remember, In PoE1 you also got Respec Points by doing quests, so you usually ended up with about 20 Respec points by the end of it. PoE2 may not have those as Quest Rewards. You are more likely to pick up enough gold during the campaign of PoE2, to respec points, than you would find Orbs of Regret during PoE1. Frankly i don't understand why this one specifically is such a point of friction for some people.

@@juliangrabowsky6418 I'm saying they should move gaining these skill points to the end of the campaign. I feel like it adds unnecessary complexity to a new player experience. The main skill tree is quite intimidating by itself. I've been playing Poe 1 since beta and I level at least 10 characters every league in SCSSF. I am fine with respecing. I'm just saying moving extra weapon swap points closer to end game will move the point where you have to choose a more specialized path on your tree. I feel like it is going to force you into a choice early on that you could easily regret halfway through the campaign causing you to want to quit or restart

​@@xXVintersorgXx In that case i apologize, i did not notice you meant the weapon skill-points. Thought you were talking about the respec-changes. Thing is from what they have showcased so far, you never have to engage with it. You only use the second tree if you set it up in the skillgem menu. In Ignoring so you should only ever use the first of those trees. PoE2 also seems to be doing Tutorials a lot better then PoE1 and GGG is aware of player choice-paralysis and option overload.

I'm still on the edge about that one. From what I heard, Chris Wilson also didn't like the change as presented, but agreed it was/felt better after testing it himself... so maybe I will also feel that way. It comes with great benefits (mostly new players not messing their build because they don't grab any and making the game/damage easier to balance since you can know what amount of HP to expect from players at any given level); but also I loved playing high-HP builds (like RF) and, honestly, the only meaningful choice in the skill tree is damage vs defenses (HP being the main defense). If the choice is between damage or damage... you will just get the path that mathematically gives you more; no choice present. Will have to wait and see how much and in what way we can invest in other defenses in the current tree (armor, evasion, ES, block, SS...); but THEN, there is really not that much of a difference between picking those INSTEAD of HP nodes. Worst case scenario; at least they can balance big hits knowing that the average player will have X HP; instead of somewhere between 3k and 12k (not mentioning some of the ridiculous 60k+ HP/ES/Mana ones, XD).

This is a good design change. Life should be gained from items, not the tree. When life is on the tree it restricts the creative choices available on the tree by always putting them in balance with the most generically powerful defensive mechanic. Instead, defensive options on the tree should multiply the value of the life you have aquired on items, much the same way that damage nodes will multiply the value of damage on your weapon, rather than simply giving another 20 flat damage to all attacks

@@dirtydard4870 The question is how this will scale into endgame, when they likely be stacking tons of ridiculous modifiers like they do now. Im not sure how defense is going to feel in this game.

Masteries are probably my favorite mechanic on the POE1 tree (along with jewels that rely on specific placements due to radius) so i’m kind of sad to see them go. But its a minor thing compared to the excitement of the rest

nodes changing per character will make learning the tree somewhat harder and more confusing, as the variability and positioning are no longer inherently linked. Seems like some good changes with some drawbacks

I would actually be in favor of _removing_ the starting nodes for all classes but yours over their being different. It seems to me that they want to communicate, "You shouldn't take starting nodes if you didn't start there," and the easiest way to do that is to outright prevent them. If the Unique Jewel that wants you to connect to class starting nodes exists in PoE2, let it add those nodes back to your tree.

The way it's described, I wonder why even do the old circular skill tree anymore since it'll be different for every class. Just do something like the Atlas tree where everyone start from the bottom and spec your way up. Every node is different for different class anyhow so just do 1 graphical representation of the tree with same starting point for everyone /shrug

Probably not a big deal but I really like how health orb turns green when you're poisoned(I assume). Considering most time when I die the first thing I think about is "how tf did that happen?"

I'm so glad that life nodes are gone from the tree in PoE2. I've been saying for years that requiring at least 150% inc life on the tree is extremely limiting and frustrating in terms of build design

Tbh, I feel a lot of these changes are healthy for the game, not all, but most. The lack of life nodes in particular is massive. We all remember for sure when we first found out we need to click life nodes on the tree, and how, as beginners, we didn't even consider clicking them. Well, that's a non issue in PoE2. By also foregoing life nodes, you can do something else with them. If the passive points amount is roughly similar, imagine how much you could do with 25 additional passive points. Moreover, you can spend those 25 passive points to use on layered defence, not just life because it's mandatory. You will now be able to click more evasion/armour/fortify/avoidance/etc. without feeling bad. You won't have to get into the same areas of the tree over and over again because that's where the life nodes are. The two weapons thingy is also incredibly cool, because you make single target skills viable, which opens a lot of build diversity. I feel a lot of these changes are badly needed in PoE. There's a huge issue in PoE atm where you end up on the same nodes over and over again and it feels bad, such as: - Bottom left corner of the tree by Marauder/Duelist featuring The Square™ - Chaos life wheel + Mana Reservation on the Top Left - Spell suppresion by Scion + Magebane - Entrench wheel on the bottom right And a lot more. I feel that foregoing the + %inc life nodes on the tree, it would help break the monotony of picking the same best nodes all the damn time.

@@dreamcore_gg My only concern is that, historically in PoE1, having ES nodes that could compete with life nodes would create a meta that heavily favored ES. Given that this is going to be true of all ES nodes in PoE2 (as there are no life nodes in PoE2), this feels like a balance concern. The only way I can think of solving this is drastically reducing ES on gear, or something similar.

I don't know how I feel about stats selectable travel nodes, I feel like it breaks the stats align character (i.e. sorceress is intel, druid is str/int) it would have been cool to have the choice, but have the main attribute in that zone be better, like 10/5/5 , so it's still an opportunity cost to be on one side on the tree or an advantage.

Because there's no center you can't travel super far on the tree for cheap, so selectable stats let you move far in one direction without getting an atrocious stat profile.

@@Tryfe712 Maybe the notables have more of your core stat on it? It should be noted that this is a nerf vs. PoE1 characters that stayed in their area of the tree, as the attribute per point is halved. I'm going to assume that they first halved it to fight attribute-stacking builds, noted that people were having a hard time gearing off-stat gear, and decided to make it selectable.

Would be very interested to see how they force players to diversify, specialization and investing all your skill poinys into a single skill is almost always better unless the skill of choice has a huge cons to it forcing players to pickup another skill to make up for that weakness

Sure that's only true for poe 1 though. Single skill builds will probably still be doable but you will be heavily incentivised and rewarded for using synergies in poe 2 probably.

Jonathan explained it. He said that he estimates that in order for a skill combo to be worth using, it has to have around 600% more damage than an individual skill.

I'm excited for the life changes but I hope there aren't items like Defiance of Destiny in POE2, and hope we have more choices for our defenses other than Phys taken as. Pretty tired of using Lightning Coil and a crafted phys taken as helmet on most of my builds.

They're still there, but energy shield recovery has been majorly restricted. You'll largely be limited to just the regular energy shield recharge. It won't be just extra health like it is in PoE1.

Removing the scion as a multiclasser and making items have passive skill investment for diversity or versatility (basically like mini multiclassing), and then making the player passive tree less accesable without a centred path.. doesnt this sound a little confused and like a mixed message? Idk, the more they reveal of poe2 the more apprehensive i feel

I sincerely hope that minions don't snapshot. If they do, what you described is the sole optimal way to play a minion build.

They’ve showed that permanent minions require spirit, which can be gained from holding a sceptre. So if you swap that sceptre to a shield I’m assuming your minions just die/unsummon, lol. Also, I’m not sure how minion damage/defensive nodes would apply with switching weapons. Could be an interesting (and probably overpowered) concept to explore when we finally get to play the game, tho.

mah, my 2 cents is having the same nodes for every class opens for more explorations, basically in poe2 if you are a necromancer you are much more likely to play some minions because your full tree is expecting you wants those nodes. It could be better but it could also be worse

Pathing in Poe tree should be removed too. You just can't balance that, some weapons or classes will always have better pathing then others like axes now have much better pathing then maces, swords or staves.

I really hope they make more powerful passive tree nodes. Iv found once you hit ~lv80 passives stop mattering as much and gear is the only major difference you feel in levelling a build. It would help a league start quite a bit as well as give the player a feeling of progression if they go on a loot drought in mid game.

I love the new weapon swap system but is it known if each set still have their own skill binds like in poe1? I want to make a warrior with a 2H mace for quick stun buildup and a 2H axe for damage combos and making the mace set binds mostly mace skills with 1 axe skill just for active swapping and vice-versa would be really practical

The complaint about skill tree mobility is the stangest take to me. Some of you guys are way too locked in to the rpg archetypes. GGG has designed a system, about as well as you probably can, that gives you the bones to play a hard locked class if you so choose but simultaneously you can split off and make something of your own. Nothing is being truly taken away here and if it's not perfect it damn sure is close.

With no masteries I really hope they bring back as many uniques from PoE 1 as possible, otherwise the build diversity is going to be a huge downgrade. ESPECIALLY defensive ones like ivory tower

Im not sure you can really comment on build diversity when you've seen maybe 1 of the new unqiues in poe2 and haven't seen the entire passive tree and absolutely none of the ascendancy passives.

You don't need to manually weapon swap. Using a skill attached to a weapon set will automatically swap to that set before using the skill so you can benefit from those stats.

I dont like they removed life. I understand the balance argument. But removing it results in removing player agency. Then i am sure you would say I got access to defensive nodes. But the player choice was in finding a balance between 3 aspects, which was damage, health and defences. Now you only got two. I basically got very little control over how i want to engage with the content. That aside, it also removes life scaling builds. One less option. But removing my choice as a player is the most annoying. There are plenty of players out there that prefer the safe slow path.

I'm quite confident that there will still be life stacking builds. My guess would be that by doing such a change, they can be more aggressive with the balance on those sort of things like Blood Magic, which I'd presume will have a significantly higher more life multiplier.

@@anubis483 I think there will also be a lot of room for them to build out those fantasies in gearing, gear mods and unique items especially can be much more open for providing meaningful life, either flat or increased, since those stats become so much more valuable once they're limited heavily

Might be in the minority but I don't find it good to increase the complexity of this at all, it looks like you have to use every ability like flask piano, that's not fun, that's clunky. No life, how about ES?, either way, if it's poe damage balance I am more concerned the end game will be the real 1% crowd accessible. I'll run numbers when I get some solid idea on the game, right now it's vaporware with a few video's, could be good, could be bad... will see.

1. Abilties are made to be situtational, you arent supposed to spam your entire repertoire every single pack. 2. They have said "one button" builds will be reachable in po2. 3. ES will be in the game,

@@dreamcore_gg I apologize. blackomega34 is correct what Johnathan mentioned they did was to compensate for the lack of Life nodes on the tree, the STR attribute gives you more life per point than in poe 1.

The more I see about POE2 the more skeptical I’m becoming over its success.. the slower playstyle isn’t really matched with intriguing enough fighting mechanics, players are forced to use elemental combo loops and it feels like you can just spec into whatever (2:01) which could lead to a situation where most your characters feel somewhat the same. With all that said, the largest flaw that doesn’t get enough attention is the development process itself. POE1 was so successful because it started out small then grew into what it is today, with POE2 they are doing the exact opposite by throwing a shit ton of money, time and manpower at a game where its core mechanics haven’t been vetted yet. If say the new fighting mechanics are not well received at launch, the uphill battle they will immediately be found in will keep the devs up at night

they made the selectable stats for that so you can travel far on the tree without getting horrendous stats, also the lack of life nodes so you don't get hindered by it.

God, I’m so frustrated by this PoE2 hype-noise, mostly because of poor developing of PoE1, which I’m always excited to play every league. Watching Necropolis being a Kalandra-like “success” was painful, but hey, we got more PoE2 vids and look what we’ve done so far, but you wont be able to touch it for like 2 years at least. Oh well. PoE2 fuss is like dust in the eyes, while league’s quality sucks. Though, QoL were awesome this league.

@@eldombro7049 no current dates on full release, but the early access is supposed to have all acts + endgame, but besides the obvious of balance being fucked up, not all of the classes will be there, and not all of the ascendancies, they will be added in the following months.
