Happy to see that we shared a lot of similarities in our builds! My take on Sosiel ended up being as a super party buffer, using the Greater Enduring Spells mythic to give all the 1 min/lvl spells 24 hours then covering the entire party. Having Prot. Evil (which also prevents all charm effects), Remove Fear, Bless, Shield of Faith, Delay Poison, all of the Communal spells, Magical Vesment, Death Ward, Spell Resistance, etc on every member of the party for 24 hours makes any dungeon a breeze, in addition to all of his personal only spells you touched on that make him awesome on top of that. I also picked up Heighten Spell so that I could slot spells to better accommodate his buff load, and still keep useful lower level spells like Heal available in those 7th and 8th lvl slots which you accurately identify as being unimpressive. Filled out the rest of the high level slots with summons, equipped gear that buffed summons (there's at least a few good items for that) and he absolutely becomes a must-bring member for every expedition. For Super Saiyan mode, before entering a big dungeon cast all of his 24 hour buffs, rest and replace all of the buff spells with damage or offensive enchantments. Then you still retain the benefits of all the party buffs AND Sosiel is still ready to go with a full plate of powerful spells or spontaneous healing
If you think Sosiel is bad wait until you see a certain stout companion for the Lich... Got to love Tower Shield Proficiency paired with Weapon Focus (Glaive). It must have been "Bring A Bottle To Work" day at Owlcat... ;)
For garbage, in current French, we say « à mettre à la poubelle ». « de la merde » is very familiar. Thank you for your great job and happy you appreciated Paris.
To address a few points on your Sosiel build. I found that taking him into Loremaster actually worked better for him in the long run. The ability to pick up Vital Strike feats turned him into a melee monster (he's crit for over 1000 damage). The other trick is Impossible Domain with Domain Zealot. It really helps his support nature if he's got Nobility or Community to add. However, the domain that I feel made his build sing was the Artifice Domain...specially for Lead Blades. I might try to put together my build for it one of these days, but he's been doing solid work that only got better as he leveled.
Definitely a great choice for Loremaster I just didn't feel like it fit with him lore wise. Didn't look at the Artifice domain for him I will check that out.
If you think Sosiel was done dirty, just wait until you see Staunton. Well, I know you have. What a joke. At least Sosiel's build makes RP sense, except for Medium Armor Focus instead of Heavy Armor Proficiency. Plus, with all that painting I'd expect him to have at least SOME dexterity.
I went really caster heavy with him. He still went up and smacked things with a glaive from time to time, but mostly to be a flanking post. Picked up forbidden domain later and got him an animal companion/boon companion too. He wasn't doing anything spectacular, but he was doing his job the entire time and always had a remove fear/paralysis/etc.
I do the same with him. He's purpose in my party is to be in front of Nenio & Ember, but behind Regill, Woljif & my MC buffing my melee characters. His animal companion (thank Asmodeus for impossible domain) tanks for my party. Nothing better than having a party member to take damage for everyone that can be revived with rest unlike everyone else in my party.
Oh wow, it's not just me. Yeah, I gave Arueshalae a few sneak dice, and I recruited a custom knife master. So between Soseil, his wolf, and the Azata dragon, and Seela, there are a bunch of chances to trigger all of the sneak dice. (I could bench Lann and get even more melee, but for now he's doing good DPS on full Zen Archer, so idk.)
Man, Channel with the accessory for extra dice? Just the raw numbers on that, and it's got a lot of range. Medium armor I'm ok with, as a Glaive user he can flank stuff and not take as many hits. If the AI were smarter he might be at risk this way, though. I like the abundant casting sequence for sure.
Pathfinder lore fact: Shalin is not a warrior diety, but a piecefull one. The glave she has originaly belonged to her brother Zon-Kuthon, before he fell to madness. To this day, she hopes to bring him back from his dark madness. Also, has anyone tried makeing him a divine summoner with his cleric abilities? There are good feets and items for it in the game, and it turns him into a one man army who can keep them alive with his extra channels while everyone else deals the big damage from safely.
Oof, Triatan holding a scimitar was inexcusable for me. The fact that his archetype didn't give him any armor made me slap a crossbow in his hands and relegate him to the back row with Linzi and Jubilost
I very much disagree with you about channeling energy during combat. There are many combats, especially random map encounters, where you start surrounded with archers pounding your back line, or enemies charging past your front to your back row. Channeling is powerful, and unlike MMO raid healing (which I have some background in) there's no tax on the healing output vs action economy/mana efficiency. Channeling is simply more efficient from a healing output perspective and from a action economy perspective if you have more than 1 damaged party member. Until you get the spell Heal, which is the most reliable healing spell you have, single target healing is dangerous and prone to healing minimal amounts on your dice rolls. To your other point, the Mass Cure spells, they are all traps, especially when you have Channel Energy already built in. Maybe, if you were building from scratch it might not be completely optimal, I'm not sure. But as is, Channel Energy > Mass Cure any level. Mass Cure spells are taking away from your actual spell slots that can be better prioritized doing something else, buffs/debuffs, damage, control, whatever you build for. Also by the time you get them in the game, they're trash. Mass Cure LIGHT wounds for a level 6 spell? Hell fuck no. Keep it. I'll cast Heal when I need a big st heal and Channel the rest of the time. Those spells are all trash design. Mass cure spells should be 1, maybe two spells levels over the non-mass version. Might also just be the way I play or build my team, but I am commonly splitting damage among at least 3 front liners. Nevermind if something gets to my back row. I hate the control spells because they all affect my own party as much if not more than the enemy. Grease, Pits, Fogs...my party all fall to them more often then the enemy it seems. So I don't bother. I just meat shield with Seelah, her horse, my archer's Leopard, Camellia, and at least 1 other melee that tends to be much more squishy. The enemy AI has a very strong tendency to ignore high AC characters and prefer the lower AC party members it seems. EDIT: Whoops. Typed my comment before moving to the next section where you address my opinion. Sorry. Ya though. Sosiel is vastly inferior to Daeren as a healer and is too mixed up to really be effective at something. I haven't really taken him out yet. On the plus side, his romance actually is pretty cool. First time I've ever tried gay romances in a story and I'm surprisingly happy with how they did the Daeren and Sosiel romances. Both of the equivalent female romances were extremely underwhelming.
^ This. He's actually pretty good at what clerics are traditionally good at, which is keeping the whole party up during an encounter that otherwise might go completely #rekt. Then you devote his spells to contributing in other ways (buffing, control, the occasional odd damaging spell, and whacking people with the polearm once he's suitably buffed with his own spell abilities).
Yeah I agree. And there are also quite a few items in the game that boost channel healing that makes the ability to heal multiple characters at once even better. I very rarely will use mass healing spells in combat, preferring to save spell slots for single targeted healing and using channel to heal multiple characters in battle.
Remember that magical vestments can be applied both to armor AND a shield. So for Seelah make sure you hit her with one of each, as they do stack with each other.
Medium Armor bugs me even more than toughness. Guy has ZERO DEX if you’re giving him an armor feat at least make it heavy armor so you get more out of it. Even with Staunton I can guess some of what they were maybe going for but this is a man who just picked wrong.
I've used Sosiel quite a lot and I am surprised you are so down with him! I played on core with him and had no problem! After all, he is a cleric so he has access to awesome buffs. I've used him as a melee attacker (using all the cool cleric buffs for melee) and had no problem hitting ennemies. Used him to heal if need be. Since he uses a reach weapons, he doesn't really need armor. I rarely have ennemies atacking him. However, I play in turn base so maybe in real time with pause that's more of a problem. In the end, I prefered Sosiel to Daeran (access to more buffs). Went down the whole Dazzling display/Shatter defense route and that was great!
Turn based definitely makes him more effective because it's much easier to ensure he stays out of enemies reach. Glad you are having a great time with him.
I think they changed something. I have him with Heavy Armor instead of Medium Armor at level 5. Toughness I really don't think is a bad feat (I've used it on all my melee characters previously) and the glaive is a pretty good weapon with reach.
Sosiel is like the only major party member for whom I'll consider using toybox to respec back to level 1 on my 3rd playthrough, or otherwise I feel like I'll never ever take him and that's just sad
Remember his background - he didn't ever intend to fight. He intended to engage in flower arranging, a little painting, and randomly groping around in guy's pockets without asking for permission, looking for whatever Blaine Edwards and Antoine Merryweather (of "Men on film" fame) might have been groping for in said pockets. Fun Fact: Blaine and Antoine were initially hired as the voice actors for Sosiel but decided they _hated it_ and moved on to pursue other career opportunities.
Luck Domain with Glaive isn't bad :) he can switch hit as off-melee or as support. Channel energy buffs aren't bad :) he becomes better healer. Toughness isn't bad :) he becomes better stooge healer for switch hitting. Medium Armor Focus on 10 Dex isn't bad... :* he can puff up Dexterity bonus and let someone else take the best heavy armor. I'm beginning to think they typecast him as middle row, middle row is awesome because I already have my party filled out :*
I'm also a big fan of sosiels character and I think he's one of the more nuanced characters in the game. I haven't used him yet though (I try not to use full parties) but I am greatly looking forward to it
I honestly had a mercenary cleric right before the grey garrison in act 1, because after owlcat gave us 2 right off the bat in kingmaker I was shocked that I was almost through act 1 and didn't have any.... decided to build a reach cleric specializing in polearms, got cleave, power attack, cleaving finish, combat reflexes, heavy armor proficiency, great cleave and was going to get improved cleaving finish at first opportunity ..... then I get Soseil immediately afterwards and I'm like "it looks like owlcat had the same idea as me, but went about it in the absolute worst possible way. I want to take the story guy but this build is absolute garbage, like my Merc has less ability score points and did everything soseil tried to do but infinitely better".... then never used soseil
Toughness is one of those feats you only take when you are doing legend build, went 20 levels into fighter, and have no clue what to put your last feat into and you're just like "i guess I could get 40 extra hp.... nah I'll take skill focus if I want to throw away a feat that bad" (yes there are legitimate uses of skill focus) The only time I i actually take toughness in a serious playthrough is if I'm doing a mounted build and I want to put it on my animal companion so that I might have one extra turn to dismount so I don't start the next turn prone, but even then there's better feats for mounts
I think they were just focused on his RP niche instead of combat effectiveness. Also, channeling positive energy can be a really effective nuke against hordes of undead, like in his first companion quest to the graveyard. Especially if you have the number of enemies turned up. It's probably pretty niche outside of UD fights, and I don't know how well it performs on higher difficulties, but it's fun melting through hordes of zombies with.
As a fellow gay I feel really seen by Owlcat making the gay character build a complete mess...The poor guy is so confused with his crap fighter stats, terrible off tank feats and the obligatory "please remember to cure/buff" channels, so relatable...
From an RP perspective I think he’s really awesome though. And as a heterosexual male this play through for the first time I “tried” the gay romances. From my perspective at least, both Sosiel and Daeren have a great romance sequence, where as the two heterosexual female romances are both psych/sociopath homicidal treasonous bitches.
@@ashvandal5697 as a gay men Camila is queen shes a psycho? Yeah but in this house we believe in women rights and wrongs rsrs...I like Daeren romance because i love comically slutty character but Im behind on Solsiel since he was dating my cavalier that I ragequit because charge bugs
@@luantib Well same I rage quit Lich playthrough because the game kept crashing in act 5 especially post transformation. " Yeah but in this house we believe in women rights and wrongs rsrs..." What do you mean by this? I'm not super mad I just think it's bogus that both female romances are psychos where both male romances are sweet. I haven't successfully romanced Aru yet because her dialogue options are tricky it seems. Wenduag was a great romance I felt but I messed up at some point because she betrayed me in the end and I had to put her down. Camellia is great she just strings you along forever. All the women abandon the lich after transformation so no Ainz Ooal Gown (Overlord) fantasies for me :(
@@ashvandal5697 it's mean nothing it's a joke a saw in a video one time and keep repeating like everyone knows rsrs...It's a "pick me guy" saying "just because a woman killed 7 people she's a monster? Seems like misogyny for me, in this house we support women right AND wrongs" 😂
I got him and filled him up with Impossible Domains. The first was animal to get a pet. Then one of them was mythic zealot for domain abilities to be swift actions.
From an RP perspective his build makes sense. He’s a gentle, artistic, peaceful cleric who is forced to take up arms. Hence him not being very good at it. If I use him, I make him a caster, as he won’t be hitting anything with that glaive. You could go into fighter if you just wanted to focus on weapon stuff, but boosting his spells and domain abilities with mythic options makes him better in that regard.
I guess but honestly Sosiel shows somewhat of a vicious streak during the game. He's trying to be a better man but I always got the sense he could crack in the right situation.
Great build man! Love the character ones. Very helpful. I’m hoping you’ll eventually get to making a dragon build. Love those dragons and really want a viable gold dragon!
I'd make use of his domain abilities which will be almost impossible when it takes up an action. I'd argue for the first mythic rank to be impossible domain war to get the weapon focus and specialization feats so you get more level feats for whatever. And then for your second mythic level get domain zealot to turn those domain actions into swift actions so you can still heal and cast. I think it will add flexibility and give him more time to be tight into the front line
Luck domain thingy + True strike + cornugon smash for his first hit. Also a Warpriest can help him frighten by sacrificing a fervor resource of his to cast BANE-quickened and then maybe prayer... Funny to watch those big evil demons run in fear !
I have to disagree with you here. Sosiel is Not an interesting character tbh and yes, his starting feats suck. But he is a clerc with the right god and the right domain. I'd argue that even if Sosiel has no normal feat slot whatsoever he is more powerful than a lot of the companions out there simply because taking extra domains with no limitations by deity from mythic ability is so so broken. Giving him enduring and greater enduring spells and three more domains, he is a beast buffer & support who is good for every fight in the game. And yes, i play on unfair.
Oh yeah if you go that route he can be an absolutely monster. I don't do it because I prefer to stick with the characters personality. For Sosiel there is no deity other than Shelyn.
I don't really use him, he's just a mess. I just use Daeran for heals, or better yet, I just create a merc healbot (who I name Healbot). When I have to use him for quest purposes, I just give him a crossbow and swap him out for my healbot.
@@eddy3550 I've used different builds depending on MC and other mercs I hire, but I generally stick with some sort of ranged oracle or ranged cleric type of format. Just stay in the back and throw out heals and a few buffs, that's his only job. You can have him drink invisibility potions for extra protection, or blink (which is not overcome by see invisible or true sight).
@@SlanderedGaming I can appreciate the disdain for mercs; they have no personality or stories. But since I don't actually like any of the companions except for Regill, and in fact find many of the companions super annoying, I prefer mercs in most cases.
Am I the only one who uses and will continue to use the glaive Marching Terror that you find so early in game on him ? It gives AoE cornugon smashlike fear effect
@@SlanderedGaming There is also a neat unholy +5 glaive, but is somewhere deep in Chap 5. The terror, banshee and relic are about the only 3 Sos will have to work with for most of the game, so choosing among their abilities is probably more valuable than the enhancement.
Honestly what hurt me the most wasn't that he was medium armor focus, it was he's medium armor focus with a 14 in DEX. I can see it if he was 16 and you can rock a breastplate with a +3 modifier but he can't even max out his own armor focus without getting some kind of dex buff. On top of that, if you just use cat's grace, you are losing a +1 modifier to AC because the armor max is 3. Really annoying unless you fuzzy a lot of stuff.
The fact that he starts with armor focus: medium just boggles my mind. Why did Owlcat even bother? He has 10 DEX, so he's not really benefitting from medium armor to focus on it. They should have heavy armor proficiency there instead if they were concerned about his defense. Or just toss out any defensive feats, toughness included, and either focus on casting or using that glaive.
I saw someone here describing him as having 14 dex and thought I was mistaking him with Greybor or something. So yeah 10 is atrocious. And what is with everything having glaive favored weapon, bonuses, etc.
I disagree. I think Sosiel is a pretty decent character. He can be built both martial or caster. Once you hit mythic, you can pick up community or nobility domains for the super buffs. I think most people just don't understand the cleric class very well and try to make it either a fighter or a wizard.
He can be awesome if you are willing to use Impossible Domain but to me that option goes against his character. Sosiel will not worship anyone outside of Shelyn.
@@SlanderedGaming well with impossible domains your not getting then from shelyn. He getting it from your character since your character his way to god hood. Thats why your side character have mythic progression.
Sosiel should be a complete support not a melee. He needs to be a Domain specialist getting as many Domains as possible via mythic impossible domains and using Domain zealot to swift action Domain powers. Trying to shoe horn him into a caster or a melee role is suboptimal.
@@SlanderedGaming The impossible domain description is given as developing a closer connection to one's deity. That seems counter to a claim of worshipping another deity other than Shelyn.
I think it would have been neat if he was a Cleric of Balance instead of base Cleric to not only give him more opportunities to make fun use of his Channels, but to lean into how often he tetters on the edge of his moral code. Especially early on, he's constantly at odds with himself and obeying his doctrine. Even considering that your initial interaction with most of the companions tend to be the most exaggerated forms of their personalities, I think it would have been a fun way to integrate his personality into gameplay.
6:43 How good is Perception in Pathfinder WoTR? It will determined if you can find secret loot, traps, conversation, secret walls, etc. I tried to get this skill for all party members. If 1 fails a check, every other party member will also roll for it.
Selective channel is a good feat for Sosiel even if you're not channeling in combat since it qualifies you for Mythic Channeling. That being said, it would be a later pick for me. Probably level 11-13 since I probably wouldn't spend my MR2 feat on it, it would more than likely be MR4 or MR6 when I'll more than likely have access to a good wisdom / charisma headband. It just extends your channels so much allowing me to go longer between rests. Toughness is a feat I personally take legitimately but it's more of a level 15-19 feat depending on the character. It's an extra feat once they've finished their build, not an early feat where it will slow down their primary build. I know this is a super old video but I've been rewatching old Wrath content because there's not enough good new stuff
I don’t mind the channel feats he has, especially since I’m currently running a dhampir moving towards lich, and not having to go have corner time while Sosiel puts the living party members back together seems worth a feat to me just on a quality of life level. That said, you’re dead right about toughness. Ironically, when playing the tabletop back in the day, I actually kind of appreciated it because as bad of a feat as it is, it’s still miles better than it was in the 3.5 D&D I’d been accustomed to (3 hp then +1 hp/lvl after 3 vs 3 hp)
Ive made his auto-level up build work, liberally using his luck domain abilities on himself as a swift action makes him able to reliably deal some damage, and there are lots of helpful cleric spells that come in useful.
Hi, another healing item that i didn't hear you mention if the ring of sacred touch, is not that strong but it helps out, since shield of faith directly gives you the bonus of the deflection ring you can replace it for it
Disagree with the channeling. You can sup it up nicely to heal a large amount on everyone at once while in combat. Sosiel would only be good at healing but that the only reason why he is in the party anyway. Sometimes they get lucky with a aoe spell
Those are good domains for Domain Zealot. Impossible Domain War would add a third and a combat feat to boot. I know at least two members of the Group of Seven worked as war artists in the First World War so it would not be a stretch from a role playing perspective.
@@SlanderedGaming Domain Zealot makes it a swift action to use your domains. It lets you use your touch buff and get a full attack in the same round. But it does sort of call for more than two domains to justify the mythic ability. The bonus to damage from War is excellent and not being Animal or Community is nice for a change. Air might work for an elemental barrage based party.
Is it not possible to choose a subset class for him then? Because that would kind of suck. A lot. I recall that you could choose Esctochlarge (I have no clue how to spell it and I can admit that) and gain an extra domain in kingmaker - but I think it screwed you a bit for your melee abilities (Though there was a specific domain that had an awesome spell that the subclass let you have access to. So by the time you hit a certain level you would be pretty unstoppable regardless) Same god as Valerie so for me he'd loose points there. I'm not sure why it goes so far out of the way to say she is - and isn't - a love goddess. Aphrodite is technically a goddess of beauty and love and all the "soft girly" things too; but it's not what she's known for. The two ARE intrinsically tied together, is the point I'd disagree with in that lore box. It more reads like the devs wanted it both ways, and it doesn't work. It doesn't make the domain less honorable, or effective because mortals have less control of themselves in that regard. (She was a horrible choice for a wife though, and I can't say my man Heph made a good call there. He chose her for the wrong reasons - massively talented, but gets constantly borked, and has a creative streak even in his revenge which can be epic) * Given how many descendants the gods had, maybe the humans actually don't have worse control... just saying. If you could throw a glaive I think he might do okay as a ranged fighter. However he'd probably need more Dex in that case. I didn't actually try to use most weapons in Kingmaker - I can admit I was more focused on trying to make a monk that could turn into a dragon disciple and then a full dragon... but I really like unarmed, so I could never make it work the way I wanted to. I also like the concept of berserker; but I dislike that they limit rage until basically the end of the game. It makes the class a LOT less effective in my opinion - though I do understand it was meant as a balancing factor. I think channel energy is more there to make sure you don't run out of healing options, if you're careful. It's just a way to make you able to play longer without resting. I'd agree that if you can swing it, the ability is best used after combat as a top up. I also think the devs were aware that a vanecian spell system can be extremely limiting. So this skill basically doubles your healing ability - and yeah it gets redundant at higher levels, but channel energy may be a viable way for some players to get to those higher levels. Depending on how often you find healing potions. I know it personally took me an embarrassingly long while to figure out how to use potions and scrolls in Kingmaker. I could use that ability a lot easier. When you take channel energy into account, it's just another tool in the box to stop your party from dying. It's perhaps not optimal for all players, and if you're either a veteran or lucky you won't need it depending on difficulty, but it is a viable way to "tank." Or if you like Elton John, sing "I'm still standing." Yea, Yeah? Yeah... (Hey at least it wasn't Tiny Dancer; but we'd have to bring Lindsey back for that one, was that a low blow? I'll stop now... would you rather take a pint and a half, or a half pint? Last round, for good measure.) Have a good day, and good video.
Weapon Focus Glaive? Really? This build is for Normal and below, it won´t last a second on Hard/Unfair. The best build for him is full Caster Cleric with Evocation Focus + Impossible Domain: Animal (Wolf) + Impossible Domain: Community. That way he mounts the Animal companion (85+ AC at lvl 20) casting heighten spells from safety. Another build is to go Exploiter Wizard (for this you need a +6 Intelligence Band) and then full Mystic Theurge, becoming the ultimate supporter of the group.
Just me personally I take a second domain, communal to get Guarded Hearth. I normally keep my tank out in front then sent my damage dealer and Sosiel, since he has a reach weapon I have in the second row casting Guarded Hearth with high wisdom the saves and the extra pluses to attack rolls makes somewhat up for his lack of strength.
Yeah now that I have WOTR I'm trying to figure this guy out. I'd want to dip into oracle (battle/ nature/ animal companion), but his CHA is only a 14 and since he uses WIS I feel like that might screw things up.
Yeah I don't think Oracle really helps him. I strongly recommend taking the Mythic option to add another domain and take Community. This will give you access to Guarded Hearth which when paired with a high WIS score is the strongest buff in the game. Outside of that his build is difficult to unravel.
I really like your videos Samori. But, really, I'm sorry to have to tell you that we don't say "garbage" in France, because that's not a french word :) . If you want to cite French, you could say "de la merde" (a piece of sh**).
I feel like from the medium armor focus and RP perspective Sosiel works great with a dip in barbarian but I feel like I’m playing into a nasty stereotype giving him rage.
Wahcist!! 😂😂I think Sosiel works best when you add other domains like Community & Madness. This let's him specialize in buffing the party and debuffing your enemies. Really makes him indispensable but it's also completely out of character.
Totaly disagree with your channeling arument channel as much as you can stop wasing spellslots on useless heal spells the only other healing spells i use are Heal/Massheal anything else ich heal with channel. But ich also would not take this more channel feat... selective is fine.
I kinda just wanna turn him into a elemental summoner just cause his school of magic appears to be conjuration. What could be more op than summons after all right? :D
Honestly i don't mind most of the initial feats Sosiel has, if only i could change medium armor focus for heavy armor proficiency. I could live with it
Disagree with you on the channeling wholeheartedly , cure spells until you get to critical & heal are weak and require touch range while a second line cleric can heal everyone at a standstill while saving important spell slots. Sosiel is suboptimal but not irredeemable, he’s a jack of all trades that’s not great in any one thing while the rest of your party are all specialist, as a support class(cleric) this isn’t as bad as it would be in other classes build wise. Now the toughness and medium armor feats are bad lol but I don’t think the correct route is going this way you have built him he’s an afterthought as a damage dealer that’s not gonna change. He’s foremost a caster/healer and potential summoner which means “conjuration” if any focus he differs from dearan in that Dearan gets more offensive spell potential & spontaneous and Sosiel gets cleric additional domains potential if you don’t utilize that HE CANNOT COMPETE for a party spot lol. Outside of that he needs to up his wisdom not strength(use belts and bulls strength for that) and focus on keeping archons auro up and spamming holy smite when necessary. As for domains yea you will need community however for a second additional domain you can go animal like others suggested or if you really love his Glaive go war for the weapon feats and bonus feat, community and war fit him from my perspective, a peaceful loving cleric who has had to tap into his rage and fighter mentality to do his part in the crusades and find his brother.
Yeah after hearing the feedback I am not as down on channeling as I was in this video. I don't take other domains with him because from a roleplaying standpoint it seems weird he would have domains that are not associated with Shelyn. Definitely agree Community or Animal could make him significantly stronger.
As a brother I agree that he is trash when you first get him. He is rarely using his glaive in melee in my party. His literal purpose is to give me access to an animal companion, life bubble & the nobility domain. After that he's......well.........he's a diversity hire lol.
Somehow I did not recruit Daeran. Don’t know how. Just happened and I realized it too late. So I have no choice but to take Sosiel as my main healer. I just spam Channel with him lol
Sosiel is unfortunate, but not for the reasons samori says.. You gain sosiel at the start of act 2, even with the dearth of effective heals, by act 2, I've already hilor'd me an Ecclesitheurge or Angelfire Apostle, or i've turned lann into one.. which means by the time you get access to sosiel - he's irrelevant. Beyond that.. yadda yadda, stats arent good for melee, yadda yadda, enduring buff him to make him semi-competent as an off-tank on lower difficulties.. on core or above he's fragile. Oh... and I toughness... because I dont cheapout fights via turn based and I want more lazyboi room. Depending on choices... toughness and mythic toughness can be the difference between a 200+hp character and a 300+ hp character... wont make much difference on unfair, but at best provides, at least one more hit before last stand.
@@SlanderedGaming It's a great mod, well both of them, first is adding lots of classes, similar to Call of the Wild, the other is the AC mod which add some small homebrew tweaks, minor, but main thing was that level 1 starting for companions. Changes everything that one. Take care to install it in the right place though, as it's not going in the normal mods folder but under AppData instead. If you add both you also have to edit that one file to add support for the submod. Basically you add ", "EnabledModifications"" without the EXTRA " I just added here behind the ""HomebrewArchetypes"" inside the OwlcatModificationManagerSettings.json. Most of that is explained on the mod page, but not exactly what you write to add the submod into it. But yeah, there ya go, let me know if it was poorly explained lol
Honestly, Sosiel is a mess both in terms of start build and story and personality. I know he joins the Crusade to find his brother, but he basically has a weird setup both mechanically AND story-wise. He just kind of is given to you, but he spends all his time going, "I'm a healer and an artist". The only way to make him viable mechanically is to use a mod that lets you retrain party members from level 1. But then his story is kind of just trash.
I feels like his lore got messed up by the gay thing...At least in the early game hes so much "Disney first gay character" with all "im a sensible artist but i need to go to war" and every time it got remotely interesting we are back to the brother no one cares
@@luantib , I suspect that his "lore" was that he was bisexual. He just isn't an interesting character. In PnP, he actually is gay, and his lover is one of the other NPCs. I actually wish they'd done that, but I think they were trying way too hard to make Sosiel a romance option.
@@SamBrockmann no hes 100% just gay and yeah taking his boyfriend out turn him feels like an over reaction to people complains that kingmaker didnt had a gay romance only a bissexual one that starts as a poli thing...imo it would funnier if they keep the boyfriend and turn him into one of that people who only talks about how amazing his boyfriend is so at least i got to have fun trying to be a homewrecker rsrs
@@SlanderedGaming couldnt bring myself to use sosiel but when I start my evil play through will give the other guy a chance despite how boring his voice acting is aswell.
This build is just all over the place. You get some spell focused mythics and some melee ones. You go strength on a cleric. You end up with a very sub par melee who cannot really do spell damage because he has no way of overcoming resistance (no appropriate feats). And worst of all you completely ignored the amazing mythic ability impossible domain which would give you access to guarded hearth (+ wisdom modifier to everyone for attack and saves), full level animal companion and tons of summoning spells which will all be buffed (including any other animal pets you may have), nobility domain which give another party wide buff you can use many times per rest and much more.
I take spell Mythics so he has more slots for buffs. Even as a melee focused Cleric he needs to self buff and I see no reason to ignore the team buffs. He is melee focused so he does not cast spells for damage. When I review the spellbook none of them target enemies except Archon's Aura. Impossible Domain is completely contrary to Sosiel from a rping perspective. He deeply believes in Shelyn and would not engage in worshipping another deity. Consequently I do not take it for this build.
Nope I just love to travel and experience different cultures. My wife and I had a wonderful time in Paris. My Cavalier pronunciation actually comes from Dragon Age: Inquisition.
As a long-term Pathfinder Player in my opinion Sosiel is designed as a 'percentage' cleric. He has toughness so he can have some durability (as a second liner), he has the channeling feats to do some healing, he has a reach weapon and a decent strength to do some combat. He is designed so that you can decide his specialisations without deciding them for you. He benefits hugely from someone casting Cat's Grace on him, and his medium armour focus is a strange feat choice, but one feat aside he is not badly built. The issue is this, Pathfinder rewards specialists, think of your party as a special forces team, each with their own role. Sosiel is a generalist for a very long time until you build his specialisation up. Clerics are also very Multi-Ability-Dependant (M.A.D.) in Pathfinder (and W.o.t.R. is less generous in belts and headbands to boost said stats) but acknowledging the slight issues he has, a well designed cleric (and you can easily build that with him in this game) is one of the strongest clesses that there are in Pathfinder.
I absolutely agree that overall Cleric's are great and he can become great. But I don't feel like the starting feats provided put us in a strong position to do that with him. Feels like starting from scratch to me.
Sosiel is great, just one mythic rank with impossible domain to get guarded heart makes him the strongest buffer in the game. Shame that he's such a bland character
If you are a Cleric there is almost certainly a different feat that will provide much more survivability than toughness. Where that's specializing in heavy armor, or focusing on conjuration for summons, or adding dodge for more AC, or picking up a shield focus. Toughness doesn't do much especially long term.
I build Sosiel as a sword and board buff bot. He's decent at that role if you spend a couple feats on boosting shields and giving him a decent one-handed weapon like Bastard Swords
Not sure how you feel about mods here but I've been using the Respec mod lately to respec the companions from level one. I used it to give sosiel a makeover. Heavy armor, shield, and useful feats. First time I'm actually using him in my party. Oh, and nenio is a pure alchemist now, as she should be 🙂
I've been avoiding mods for the Lich playthrough but I finished recording that and have been playing around with Toybox. Definitely interested in some other nice mods.
Agree… One of the main reasons to me that they should let us respec from level one (can make us keep the class)…. Except for Staunton, his feats are probably the worst. On turn around Sosiel character wise is up there in the favorites with Nineo (some questionable feats but still early), Regill and my favorite Aivu. Be interesting to see your options character story/wise favorites.
@@SlanderedGaming Yes, but the downsides of those early choices seem pretty rough. I feel he has been set up to be passed over for the earlier npc pickups that give you more options for meaningful choices. Everything you said at the beginning is correct - I feel he needs to be adjusted in a patch to be more impactful. I have followed a build for him for my current run that steps into Community impossible domain, plus getting him a leopard pet, being more support/summon focused. Guarded hearth and leopard are so strong, his early build becomes inconsequential in the grand scheme. Your insight and effort was appreciated though, for those of us scratching our heads trying to figure our if the issue is a gap in our knowledge or a broader compounding issue that's largely unavoidable.
I always give him impossible domain and go with the animal domain. His armor doesn't matter as much when he's on the back of a triceratops, and a glaive gets past the issue triceratops has with non-reach weapons for their riders. Animal domain also has a lot of great buffing spells. Of course, then that makes the problem of his non-existent mobility, but I got over that by ignoring perception on him. For me, he's there to buff everyone and then heal and every once in a while be a distraction for the enemy or a flanking post.
For me giving Sosiel Impossible Domain is contrary to his character because he would never worship a deity other than Shelyn. Otherwise I would absolutely do that.
@@SlanderedGaming I see your point, but I just rationalized it as my Azata nature rubbing off on him (seeing nature and animals as a thing of beauty and wonder). I am not complaining about your build by the way, it's very good, I just really like dinosaurs and buffing spells (and animal companions are a LOT of fun in this game).
19:22 there are definitely characters that lack good gear or a lack of certain gear. i mean lances were supposed to be in the game but they arn't and short spears are supposed to be their replacements and i haven't come across many good ones to justify specing into them.
Then they should have at least taken heavy armor focus. The problem is his deity is really off for RP reasons. Really should be some kind of caster or bard-like support.
