Pathfinder: WOTR is an isometric single-player role-playing story game currently in development by Russian studio Owlcat Games and published by Deep Silver, based on Paizo Publishing's Pathfinder franchise. Announced through a Kickstarter campaign in February 2020, the game will be released for PC, Microsoft Windows, and macOS on September 4, 2021. A console version for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series X Gameplay, PS5, PS5 Gameplay, Playstation 5, Playstation 5 Gameplay, will be released at a later date. The game is a sequel to Pathfinder: Kingmaker.

In WOTR the realm of Sarkoris was destroyed when Areelu Vorlesh opened a rift to the abyssal planes of existence, and hordes of demons invaded the world of Golarion. Pathfinder has dozens of classes and subclasses with thousands of abilities, feats, spells, talents, and buffs to choose from. The spell listing allows you to choose from Evocation (Damage Dealing), Enchantment (Crowd Control), Necromancy (Undead), Abjuration (Buffs), Illusion (Crowd Control), Divination (Buffs/Disruptor), and Conjuration (Summoning). This is combined with an insane amount of class/subclass options including Alchemist, Arcanist, Barbarian, Bard, Bloodrager, Cavalier, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Hunter, Inquisitor, Kineticist, Magus, Monk, Oracle, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Shaman, Skald, Slayer, Sorcerer, Warpriest, Witch, and Wizard! It is Owlcat's goal to give each of these classes at least 5 subclasses each!
Choose your Mythic Path and embody an Angel, Demon, merciless Lich, wily Trickster, superhero Azata, law incarnate Aeon, truly evil Swarm, merciful Gold Dragon, or forgo all of them to stand alone as a Legend. Each path will allow you to improve your hero in unique ways, adding a new layer to character development and making your hero and their allies a true match for their powerful enemies.
There are more than a dozen potential party members in the game including Camellia (Half-Elf/Spirit Hunter), Seelah (Human/Paladin), Lann (Mongrel/Zen Archer), Ember (Elf/Stigmatized Witch), Arueshalae (Succubus/Espionage Expert), Woljif (Tiefling/Eldritch Scoundrel), Daeran (Aasimar/Oracle), Sosiel (Human/Cleric), Regil (Gnome/Hellknight), Wenduag (Mongrel/Fighter), Nenio (Kitsune/Scroll Savant), Greybor (Dwarf/Slayer). All of these companions have their own backgrounds, alignments, and motivations. All of them are fully voice acted with unique character models. There are even more followers that are locked behind specific story/mythic quest options!

People keep forgetting that being charismatic in this type of games isn't exclusively about being enthralling/persuasive. Intimidating characters also have high charisma (roleplay wise).

The main thing with Persuasion is that it also includes leadership and intimidation, and both of those are lore friendly with Regill.

It's also one of the better builds for Regill and justifies the first three levels of Hellknight (he needs third level to get "Fearsomeness"). Every single attack gives him a chance to intimidate the enemy... and not just give them a "shakened" status but a "frightened" one, sending them running. This can be great for sending demons running from your squishier ranged companions. One of the better ways I've found for tanking on Core+ difficulties, since you can't tank for long as most monsters will hit your companions without problems.

I really love how you go in and explain the reasons for using this over that and cover the thinking behind feat selection and explain the skills. I find this extremely helpful as my D&D and Pathfinder knowledge is superficial at most. Thanks! *edit* got to add, persuation also means intimidation, no? so lore wise it is the perfect skill for Regil.

Regill begins with a very nice gnome hooked hammer and other hooked hammers he gets are also very effective. Critical part is: he gets hammers that deal "additional" damage. This damage usually comes as a separate line and gets boosted by axiomatic holy flaming etc bonuses AND his smite (which is +20 at level 10 hellknight) AND gets affected by crits...very few creatures survive a full round by a buffed and geared Regill.

I played a Regill build in the tabletop game and it came out really nice, i made him Armiger 12/Hellknight 8 He reached a static 41 AC and wrecked an entire Wild Hunt platoon by himself, pretty cool. I could make him that good in the game if it had some of the options i used, armor specialization for example, or some options from Hellknight Order

These builds are amazing, even coming back to them. One thing i want to say is: roleplay wise there is nothing wrong with not using the hellknight class for him, imo. He is already a gnome who uses Dex and an exotic weapon in an order of Heavily armored roided out knights. Following the laws of the order and having earned the title to be there is enough, you don't have to try to be like them, when you can excell by doing things differently. It isn't like regill to blindly try fitting in, when he already stands out.

One thing I love about regill is that, as long as you stick with GHH as your weapon style, he can do almost any melee dps class well. I actually have mine with mostly barbarian with a draconic bloodline, and 2-3 levels of draconic disciple, just for fun and because i didn't need more spells but was able to use extra str and natural armor. Even with a terribly unfocused build he was still one of my better damage dealers without question.

Destructive shockwawe is amazing on Hellknight. Smites are added to it's damage, meaning you can get up to 20 damage on misses. Just to make a comparisson, thundering blow average 42 at rank 10 and it' OpR. Unless you can get your AB to the point you hit on 2 it's a lot of extra damage.

In regards to the 3 different save effects, I play on like "normal" difficulty and I think I've come across fear casts and effects far more than the other 2 choices combined, at least in my first angel playthrough that I just finished. I think I can count on one hand the amount of times I was charmed.

You may be right, but Compulsion (Holds which can lead to auto crits-- I dont think computer does Coup de Grace on your chars) and Charm (your char gets dominated and now you have to fight against your own party members) effects are much more devastating, and necessary to protect from. Plus if you use Seelah you can get some large bonuses to fear saves :)

Like Shadraen said Compulsion/Charm are the really devastating effects that are hard to come back from. Even if one of my people runs in fear the rest of my team handles business. But if one of my frontliners turns against me that's a serious problem.

I come across more attempts at fear, but compulsion definitely lands the most often, protection from evil makes me immune to most domination effects, and Seelah can make the party immune to fear (plus most casters can remove fear on demand). So compulsion in my mind is the way to go.

I always enjoy your guides. The two things I would do differently is take the vital strikes feats and unrelenting strikes sooner is to hit more often at lower levels. Does this seem like a viable option?

Vital Strike would reduce his eight attacks down to 1 so I wouldn't take that. Taking Unrelenting Assault lets you do more damage but it's not going to help you hit more.

I would recommend going strength with Regill, you start with enough strength to take power attack, and it's much easier to buff strength than dexterity in Pathfinder. It also allows you to take cornugon smash etc, and that works really well with his hellknight levels, giving him CC and proccing AoOs (if an enemy manages to survive a round with Regill)

Do you think it would be okay to switch out improved crit mythic with finnesse mythic? Might be more useful to use dex for damage before worrying about crits?

Travel domain also gives +10 movement speed. On top of the armor training that lessens the penalties for heavy armor, this made Regill my second fastest character late game (after Sosiel with his ridiculous self buffs).

I think War Domain is good for him roleplay wise and it gives you an extra feat and some bonus damage.

Isnt taking combat reflexes "in the middle of game " kind of ineffective ? Or does it depend on your personal party setup ? ( like using a bull rusher or kineticist or pet) you make the greatest guides in the history of gaming, btw !

Thank you for the support! Combat Reflexes' viability depends on your party setup. Usually when I have Regill I only have one other frontline fighter so there's more opportunities for AOO. If the frontline is crowded then it might not be worth taking it.

What does the double slice feat do in a dex build? I tought it would only be useful with a str build. Edit: Clarified later in the video. With Mythic Weapon Finesse, double slice applies to dex.

Glad you tested this on Unfair given I primarily play Unfair. ;-) What is lacking is a legit Regill build. There are little to no builds for him given a general search. Maybe peeps don't like him or like playing him or with him. Dunno. When I do an Evil run/playthrough, I tend to surround myself with like aligned characters and Regill has always peaked my interest. And with little amount of legit builds out there for him, makes/made playing him or utilizing him tough.

Honestly, I want this guy in my evil party just for roleplay. He's awesome, the kind of evil that makes him likeable, similar to what Korgan was in Baldur's Gate 1. And unlike the other evil party members, he actually has a backbone and a strong sense of moral and ethics, which I love.

Can't you use a polymorph scroll on the Hellhound to make it anything else that's useful? I guess that's not really practical long-term, but you could make it a Shambling Mound or whatever color dragon you want for a couple of areas.

Not sure how it operates after the patch but beforehand you couldn't control it directly and I don't think you could target it with spells.

I’m doing my first evil play through and using Regil and Camellia as my two front liners. I was thinking on doing 8 lvs of fighter, 10 of hell knight and where would you dip the other 2 levels ? I was thinking instinctual warrior since that would give you uncanny dodge but I’m not sure

He can't be an instinctual warrior since he is lawful, bloodrager primalist is a very good option on him if you build it that way.

Ive seen a build for him for every difficulty to deal with absurd AC enemies. He have alot of attacks per round, most of them would miss ofc, but there is mythic feat deals str modifier as damage on misses. He takes his hellknight mark, Seelah cast her aoe-mark, and enemy will get 2xRegills level damage each missed hit. And regill will have like 10 attacks per round.

Interestingly enough, Regill and Greybor are the two companions that mention in game being acquainted to Vivissectionist tecniches (when they discuss the finer points in torturing someone)

Does anyone know if Double Weapons work on a Two-Handed Fighter? Does the game count them both as two-handed and dual-wielding or only as dual-wielding?

I find the naming in english also confusing. But No The skill for Regill is called two-weapon fighting. he is fighting with 2 weapons, one in each hand which is shown in the inventory (18:51) 5 hits with his right hand and 3 hits with his left hand

This is an old video but why would you take Double slice on a Dex based character that has a negative STR modifier?

After you take Finesse Wielding, Double Slice counts for DEX instead of STR. That's why Woljif starts out with it. The feat doesn't say that but if you look at your DMG stats on the character sheet that will be reflected.

Bro you have to take mythic finesse at mythic 2 with him and any build using dex to damage that doesnt get it as a normal feat/ability. I cant imagine how wack it would be to use him 90% of the way through act 4 without dex to damage

For other characters I agree but for Regill it's not noticeable because his GHH come with damage buffs of their own. You will do great damage in most of the game even without taking that feat.

For me. he is just straight 19 levels of Armiger; with the additional nice benefit of Smite Chaos, 6 times (with Mythic) per day. - Could still use some more feats, though. ^^

Honestly my favourite build for regill is 5 armiger/3 hell knight/1 divine hound/1 sohei/1/1 demon slayer/9 gendarme Is it lore accurate eh not exactly but it’s incredibly effective and it’s fun to watch him run around on a dog throwing out 9 attacks with +37 to hit

Because from a RP standpoint Regill should clearly have more or at least equal levels of HK compared to Armiger. From a mechanical standpoint absolutely taking less HK levels makes sense.

I put blind fight in addition to outflank on my melee line. Hitting enemies with concealment is a real pain and blind fight really helps.

If I played at a more unforgiving level, then I would probably need to take such measures. Since the feat requires me manage less (or just endure a few extra misses), then it works for me.

I like to use travel domain with domain zealot mythic ability so that regil can teleport to an enemy first turn and still get his full attack

Mythic Weapon Finesse definitely gives him a damage boost and Travel domain is great to jump around the battlefield.

3:40 i've never seen his censor or movement imparing smite effect work for his smite, it doesn't even show up as a save in the logs....ever. but meh hes a good frontliner

There's a case to be made for that but his heavy armor lower's athletics and you are not going to be increasing strength. Consequently I think the boots have limited usage for him.

Honestly I thought Regill is pretty easy straight up. The issue is that he's just very poorly mechanically built. So "salvaging" him is the hard part. From an RP perspective, I like him sitting at home, in the command center, running things day-to-day.

How is Regill ill suited for Cornugon Smash?!? Take Power Attack. He has the requisite 13 Str. Works exactly like Piranha Strike on him. Take Cornugon Smash and the Discipline that makes anything he intimidates within 10' Frightened instead of Shaken. Anything that survives his Full Attack then has the good sense to run away in abject fear. I prop him up on Bismuth so he can Full Attack after moving. And he's my little blender of death and efficient composure.

Power Attack scales off Strength which will always be low for Regill. That's why you need Piranha Strike instead. Also because Regill's strength is low he does not get much use out of Intimidating Prowess. This means he will be unable to overcome the tough DC's to Shake non trash mob creatures in Acts 4-6.

@@SlanderedGaming Power Attack scales off Base Attack. Just like Piranha Strike. Intimidating Prowess does scale off Strength. And that is why I don't, and would never, take it with Regill. If I wanted to give him a big bonus to Persuasion, by spending a Feat, I'd take Skill Focus. At the level we are talking gives the same bonus as a moderately Strength focused character with Intimidating Prowess. Now here's the beauty of it. He doesn't need either. He gets a bonus to Intimidate from Hellknight. It's easy to get an extra bonus from equipment. And let's say he's getting 7 attacks per round, and only hitting with 4. He gets 4 attempts. He doesn't need to succeed on the first try. Just 1 out of 4.

14:41 i discovered in my AEON playthrough using a 1 handed scimitar that it has a decent crit range that you can expand even further to be 15-20 so a 1 in 4 and i did notice a significant change. my character crits once to 3 times in a 4 attack action. now there are other great crit weapons but i'm just reporting my findings.

Lich playthrough on core here: one of the Lich companions is dualwielding scimitar, best I had was a crit with 199 damage (17 + 55 BAB in Log) This guy hits like a train with the Lich buff to undeads (strenght 48). Regill is just trash against that^^

Crit fishing is very powerful in Pathfinder. In Kingmaker, the goblin rogue Knock-knock was set up to dual wield kukri, which have the same crit range as a scimitar. Dishing out 8 or so attacks per round with a 10d6 sneak attack per hit and with a massive Dex score, each of which has a 1 in 4 chance to crit, made him a terrifying DPS in the late game (especially when hasted, raging, and under reduce person)

Not gonna lie, with All of his two weapon fighting abilities you could get shield bash and make him a pretty valuable mace/hammer and heavy shield user

Yup I hadn't considered that but it's definitely true. Only issue is I think he already has a weapon focus feat in Gnome Hammers so that would be wasted.

so many attacks and no Elemental Barrage... so easy to get some elemental modifiers on weapons and bump his damage considerably. Instead of leading strike for example. In addition, going last stand on mythic 6 for a melee will not really work on unfair, you should probably take is sooner.

I took one look at those stats and I was like "dafuq man". At least Aru has a crapton of extra stat points so it's no big deal if she doesn't use all of them, to the point that it feels like a balancing decision. Regill just hurts my brain and I don't even want to try it.

Leadership can also be considered a form of persuasion and Regill certainly is a leader. Still, persuasion is low on my skill list for him. Athletic and mobility are my primaries.

There's also the fact that both Bluff and Intimidate is rolled into Persuasion since the game doesn't do skills 1 to 1 to the tabletop game.

I wish he just have diffrent class becouse hellknight is so weak. In ~15/16 lev he have like 1/2 of damage per turn vs just mutation/2h fighter. Even with respec mod I dont know how to build him becouse he look and feel SO much like hellknight. For my game I will probably respec him info some kind of bow user with that high dex or some kind of reach cavalier with hellknight feel.

HK is not that bad. There is a mythic feat that deal your str as damage when you miss. It calculate smite damage into it, so regill can take it and have a good damage floor even againist enemies whit bullshit AC. It has been a lifesaver a lot of time, especially because i have too mich ADHD to buff up every time.

First! And yeah, he is a terrible hellknight. I end up going Bloodrager 1, pick up the limitless rage mythic ability, then the rest of his levels into Fighter

Honestly he's so bad without a mount it's unplayable, I know it goes against RP reasons but building him into a Sohei monk is the only way to make him good for me

This is owlcats troll.... non-optimized builds for "tag-along" NPCs. RUINS THEIR SERIES without mod use. Great games, annoyingly noob built npc's. If you come from the 2e to 3.5e era, its the best of what we get these days
