On this day, February 2nd, in 1967, Joe Meek was working late on some recordings he'd made. He also made true a promise to his friend and assistant Patrick Pink that he would record him one day This is that recording, and also the last recording Joe Meek would ever make.
The next day, February 3rd 1967, in a clearly unstable state of mind, Joe Meek shot and killed his landlady, Violet Shenton, and then shot and killed himself.
For a while I have wanted to bring out Patrick's voice a bit more on the only available recording, which had probably lost some of the clarity over time and/or copying, and so I thought today, February 2nd 2024, would be a good day to add ONLY a little mid-high frequency lift, exactly 57 years after the recording was first made in Joe Meek's little studio in a converted flat, above a leather goods shop, at 304 Holloway Road, London.
