I love that yodeling she does with her voice. I had never heard a female do that before. What a woman and performer she was. I had no idea that she died in a plane crash so early in her career. So sad. Man, how many great ones have we lost to plane crashes. Makes one wonder if they should have ever invented the airplane - at least for commercial traffic anyway.

STORY TIME: back in 1959 Patsy was in northern VA which is where most of my mother's side of the family is from. She was at a restaurant when she spotted my great grandad sitting alone. She decided to join him and they became very flirtatious with each other. The next thing you know, my great grandmother who was his then girlfriend (now wife of 56 years) came back from the restroom. Upset at what she saw, she hit THE Patsy Cline in the head with her boot! To this day we give my great grandma a hard time and I always sing "Walkin after Midnight" or "Crazy" just to see her face turn red!!

It's a hit for Hank, but you got the facts dead wrong, hoss. This song is from the 1910s to the 1920s in minstrel shows, and it was released by Hank in the early 1950s along with Moanin' the Blues as the B-side.

She hit the high B flat! Never heard her sing in that range. I find it hard to believe that this was done in 1960. She's wearing the cowgirl outfit (her mother made these for her) which would place this performance somewhere in the '50s. She looks very young here, as well. Also, it's filmed. I'm pretty sure that they were using videotape by 1960.

@kristien - She also had a very bluesy touch, in her voice and interpretations. Walkin' After Midnight could easily have been a hit for some R&B singers, i think. Black folks were playing old time, bluegrass - everything people wanted to dance to, in Virginia and the Piedmont. And probably WVA as well. I bet Patsy listened to everything she could, every type of music - even show tunes. And she pulled all those different influen es together and made them her own.

Got a feelin' cause I'm blue, oh, lord Since my daddy said goodbye I don't know what I'm gonna do All I do is sit and cry, oh, lord That last long day he said goodbye Oh, lord, I thought I would die He'll do ya, he'll do me, he's got that kinda lovin' But, lord, I love to hear him when he calls me sweet baby What a beautiful dream I hate to think it all over I lost my heart it seems I've grown so used to that man, somehow And I'm nobody's sugar-baby now 'cause I'm lonesome I got the lovesick blues Now I'm in love, I'm in love with a wonderful guy That's what's the matter with me Well, I'm in love, I'm in love with a wonderful guy But he don't care about me Well, I tried and I tried to keep him satisfied But he just wouldn't stay But now that he is leavin', this is all I've got to say I got a feelin' cause I'm blue, oh lord, since my daddy said goodbye I don't know what I'm gonna do I lost my heart it seems I've grown so used to that man, somehow And I'm nobody's sugar-baby now 'cause I'm lonesome I got the lovesick blues I've grown so used to that man, and how And I'm nobody's sugar-baby now 'cause I'm lonesome I got the lovesick blues

She really got the voice that kills even in 2020 now. There's no fame without a reason.

Floored by how incredibly good she sings. She makes it seems effortless, yet to the ear she slices and dices with stunningly expert vocal precision all the while. Too many superlative to list.

I plan on keeping Patsy "alive". I may not sound like her but i do my best with alot of her songs! She's my all time favorite singer ever since I heard her back in 1983 for the first time! ♥

Wonderful recording. There are so few of Patsy and that is a shame because she was great. A life and talent cut and taken too soon.
