Pausing the Chronos Fight - Hades 2 

This has to be one of the biggest trolls in gaming; where the final boss denies you the opportunity to pause during his fight

The layers to this joke are amazing: -Being the personification of time, having Chronos negate the player's strongest form of time manipulation (pausing) shows the titan's power over his domain while also working as a good 4th wall break -The no-pause thing only being on the final boss as though the devs really didn't want you to step away from the final battle that the game had been building towards from the start -Chronos going from smug confidence to genuinely annoyed as you keep doing the thing you KNOW he can prevent -The fact there's an actual invocation you can get to prevent him from doing this, poetic rhymes and all -Having said invocation and actually pausing the game against Chronos STILL has him quip at you -Said quips starting with bafflement to how strong this incantation is... to quick annoyance as he now has to wait every time you pause -Chronos guessing that you've paused to go do something more important and/or use the bathroom -The sheer fact that the only way to actually see this joke in full requires you to pause against the final boss, buy an upgrade unlocked by pausing against them, then going ALL the way back down to fight him again to see the payoff It's so much effort for a gag most people won't see, and I think that makes it all the more memorable tbh

Imagine Chronos gets so pissed he just decides to pause the fight for a whole minute too just he can use the washroom.

Chronos: I am the titan of time, you'll not hold time's sway over me Player: But I gotta go potty! Chronos: Very well.

I love how he starts off confused and angry, and then it just devolves into annoyed acceptance.

The player: hey man I need to used the washroom let me pause the game.

Honestly, I wouldn't even bother with that spell other than to hear the dialogue, the sheer clever fact of him breaking the pause is just too cool to pass up on.

I absolutely LOVE when bosses take away an ability you took for granted. Makes you feel genuine dread, when your opponent takes control of something you thought only you could command

Love how these devs always interweave gameplay and story. Definitely one of the best indie companies out there.

so funny thing with this is the game pauses if you controller disconnects which is nice. it was a really good run too.

When I opened this video my YT player lagged and wasn't showing me time bar and prev/pause/next buttons. I genuinely thought this was a 5th wall break and died from laugh

I love how everyone is impressed with this gimmick. It was used in another game called Lobotomy Corporation (And its direct sequel). Also, back in the 2000's, I had to fight the "Time Devil" in Blinx: The Time Sweeper. That fella was able to pause, slow, accelerate and "record" time in its final boss fight... Gosh I miss that game.

FIRST TIME IM STRONG ENOUGH TO THINK, I CAN BEAT CHRONOS, THIS RUN IM OP. I FACE CHRONOS. START DODGING SHIT AND SO. MY PHONE RINGS, DELIVERY IS AT THE ENTRANCE WITH MY FOOD. I PAUSE THE FINAL FIGHT SO I CAN GRAB MY FOOD. MY FACE JUST TRANSFORMS AFTER THE GAME UNPAUSES ITSELF. I PAUSE AGAIN. AND AGAIN. I CANT BELIEVE WHAT IS HAPPENING, HAD TO GO TAKE MY FOOD AND CHRONOS JUST BEAT ME TO DEATH 10/10

Chronos takes offense that taking a bathroom break is more important than having a family dispute.

I only found this out when my father interrupted me and I tried to pause the game to talk. I then laughed because the interaction was very funny and then told him that I could not pause because he was the god of time and could prevent me from pausing. He understood and left me finish the fight and then I talked with him after.

The first time I did this, I was waiting for my sons mom to come pick him up. When I paused to see if she showed up, he pulled this shit. So I did what I could and fought. She showed up around the exact moment I beat him and could finally pause the game. I literally was racing against Time with that one fight

I think my favourite Chronos interaction is one that the game doesn't call out: In one of the post-Hecate dialogues with Chronos, he says "How very spirited! You truly think you can stop Time. Well, then... I would like to see you try." And I saved a screenshot of me pausing while this dialogue was on the screen.

In the same vein, Chronos is unaffected by time slowdown effects from Sorceress Arcana and that one Hex, I don't remember its name.

You know when I pause a game on my switch I just go to the home screen. It would be funny if Cronos was able to acknowledge that somehow he can’t stop the Home Screen from pausing the game

This actually happened to me. I paused the game for a second and I got all the quips and the sarcasm (and of course in the end he got me). I 've just done the incantation today, can't wait to give him some reason to pause now :D

This, unironically also gives you more power over Chronous then any of the other Gods that legit would give you an advantage in ta fight with him they could use. This one joke, actually proves why Melinoe is reasonable the only one who can legit fight him properly. You can just annoy him to death by using his own ability against him.

i know some games can still keep running in the background for a small amount of time when you press the home button on nintendo switch (hades 1 doesnt do that though) so it would be cool if the game did this once it gets ported to switch
