The be fair, Price Charting has no actual reports of anything close to an 8.0 ever being sold publically, so the expert was basically just making up prices too.
@@nicholasvalentino4378 He wasn't making up prices. When you have an item with no precedence to set a price, you make a reasonable estimation based on the current market. Which is exactly what he did. Which is all any expert can do.
@@DIDYOUSEETHAT172yeah. In dumbass terms, They want the first sale to be low in case they can’t make that much. But at the same time they can sell it for 10x the original amount, and if it does sell, it increases its interest and value
@@nicholasvalentino4378 That same exact comic is sitting on eBay right now, and has been for a while, for 15k and nobody is buying it. So we know the expert was pretty much correct in pricing it waaay lower than what she wanted. She went on and sold it to a comic store in Las Vegas called Torpedo Comics who slapped a sticky price tag on it's back plastic cover and then listed it.
Yep sentimental has no value. $7500 seemed like a fair offer, but I know nothing about comic books. The pawn shop buys for wholesale prices too, so it’s always sometimes a low ball offer.
Then you aren't selling it. Also, these people aren't really buddies. They're people that are actually supposed to be experts but the producers are the ones who find and hire them for the show.
Very true. Even if you got a comic right off the press, have it slabbed and boarded, would not guarantee it would be in perfect shape. Comics are among the most fragile of the collectables, with even a slight crease affecting the condition of the book.
Guy is seriously off on his comics He thinks he is doing Rick a favour and will say …. Oh I made a mistake the comics are worth $7k ….. one of those comics at a 7 went for $4500 his grading was nuts I hope he had looked at more that the cover 😂 May have a completed crossword or coloured in with biro halfway through 😂😂
lolol pretty much like the ongoing debate between Hulk 180 and 181!!! Hulk 180 was the first cameo of Wolverine and 181 was the first full appearance and iconic cover.
I used to see Steve and his boss John all of the time back in the 90s. Torpedo Comics is based in Las Vegas and the owner John is famous for being the drummer in the all Armenian band System Of A Down. Steve looks in great shape the last 10 years or so (he's made multiple appearances on Pawn Stars in the past).
@@jasonj5862 Nah I never saw them play. I knew John and would trade collectibles with him before the band was even signed. I knew him more as a fellow comic dealer.
@@litigioussociety4249 That comic has been sitting on eBay with no buyer. They'll have to keep lowering the price sooner or later until someone buys it. Right now, nobody is interested in it. An item is only worth what someone is willing to pay. People go to pawn shops because they want fast cash and are usually desperate. That's why pawn shops don't give good deals 99% of the time.
That Menace Zombie comic is on eBay right now for $15,500, being sold by Torpedo Comics, the same company on the shirt of that guy from the clip who values it at $10,000. Seems to me like these Torpedo Comics guys just had someone pretend to bring in a comic that they already own just for views.
I think it's more likely that they convinced her to sell it to them after the show was filmed. In the listing they have already slapped a sticky price tag on it that are annoying to get off cleanly. In this segment, there is no price tag on it. I tend to doubt that they pulled it off of their shelf and "leased" the use of that comic book. Same stuff happens on the show "Shark Tank". Deals have been made and broken once the cameras have been turned off.
It's always funny when a dejected seller won't sell something because of "sentimental reasons" It's like, you were just trying to sell it..."sentimental reasons" pff 😂😂
No they don't they're just very strict graders. Every single authenticators like that. I collect autographs I've dealt with these types of people. If you're going to say they low ball you're going to have to say every authenticator in the history of the world low balls lol. Unlike you they just take their job very seriously.
@@shadycnetwork probably then you don't know about the fraudster Steve Grad, who has no formal education in grading or qualification. The other Steve (comics), Cory himself mentioned in an episode to a customer, I'll pay you whatever Steve has estimated, indicating there's still handsome margin for Cory.
@@shadaba.qureshi4367 actually do your research. Steve is definitely qualified. If you look him up there are no complaints he's never been in trouble legally. Now drew the one you never mentioned actually went to prison for fraud. So he's no longer on the show. The guy that used to evaluate toys is no longer on the show because he got in trouble with the law. This is what happens when you get in legal trouble or you are a fraud you're no longer on the show. Steve is considered one of the top authenticators in one of the top grading firms in the world. Again like I said before every single authenticator is very strict with their grading. I don't know what to tell you little buddy.
Or they can send the books in to be graded. In addition, the expert is setting a sell price for the shop, not 'value' that someone gives for a best case scenario or for insurance.
Comic books are in a tough market right now. His appraisals were very generous. Why even bother bringing it if you're not at all realistic with what you will take for it?
Success seems to be connected with action successful people keep moving. They make mistakes. But they don't quit. The stock market has plenty of opportunities to earn a decent payouts, with the right skills and proper understanding of how the market works.
