So nice to see you and Ash's tramily meeting and having fun. Also, I appreciate you showing the burn zones so clearly in your videos. I had family who was displaced by one of the larger West Coast wildfires. They lost everything except their lives and the clothes on their backs. While we thru-hikers and video-watchers can experience the burn zones in a matter of days and then walk away, the people of these areas will live with the devastation for years to come. Your videos are an important testimony to this utter devastation -- an important reminder about an ongoing tragedy which is so easily forgotten. Thank you for bringing us along.
Just saw a RU-vid video of someone who came over Forester a few days ago. What a different sight from what I watched when you guys came over! Snow free. Hopefully you guys will have smooth sailing when you finish up the Sierra.
You asked how those little patches of green survived: It's called a "mosaic burn", although this was pretty complete, and just enough vegetation remains to begin reforestation. If you looked at those trees around the patches, they still have brown needles on the branches and that means the needles were exposed to high heat instead of igniting in flames like other trees in the area without needles or even bare branches. Some of the surrounding bushes remain because they were sheltered by rocks and rises in the ground, and by the trees. It was a fast-moving burn that just moved around those spots so quickly that they didn't burn.
Lovely time at Jerry and Ann's. Nice campfire there. So sad and desolate these burn areas, but they will come back. Your evening campsite was very nice by the little lake. The miles are adding up! Take care. Happy trails!
Oregon has been hit so savagely with wild fires. I think more devastating burns than CA. Only good thing is Oregon had fewer homes lost than CA but the forests more badly incinerated. This coming week up there is severe heat and fire warnings. My mom lives up there so I’m hoping for no fires. Hope you all are safe and doing well. Thanks for posting 😊
I'm not really sure how to do that, but here is the link. I'll check into it and see if I can figure it out. Until then... ms r. ru-vid.com?search_query=ash+o%27brien+pct
I am catching up on your videos due to backpacking in the Sierras for 6 days, going over Taboose, Mather, and Bishop passes. I had a nightmare last night that I was hosting you on the trail, when I ran out of beer for you guys. So sorry and it will never happen again.
Nothing wrong with your far-out miles. Early in your hike, two took the PCT and two took the road due to heavy snow. It was probably a one mile difference.
