Hey yall,
Training can be really well or straight chaos! Dialysis gets crazy in 1 second anyway 🥴 but you definitely want smooth training. I just want you to know what you can possibly expect..because I came with no expectations. I can understand why people don’t tell what to expect because I can tell you all day but you won’t get it until you get on the floor and see for yourself.😅
More videos to come..this is just the beginning..part one
Let me know how your training was or is going in the COMMENTS below!!

I just finished the 2nd week of my PCT training with no prior clinical experience besides doing home HD for my father. While some concepts carry over, it is nothing alike. Learned how to setup the machine, prime / recirculate, input docs orders, draw heparin, making packs for the patients, along with some of the easier things of taking vitals. I think I'll start cannulating starting my 3rd week. The learning curve is extremely fast and quick. There is no time to waste as its very easy to fall behind in time, extreme multitasking. You'll find out really soon if the job is a right fit for you I noticed. Thankfully my preceptor has a LOT of patience and is very knowledgeable. Its fun and I enjoy it, but there are times when I question myself haha.

I'm at 3 1/2 months into training at fresenius in NYC. They extended my training because they think I need more time to prepare for the turnovers when I'm on my own which I appreciate. My clinic just accepted a lot of new patients which is great because I dislike some of the old patients they're very picky. It's very hard being the new dialysis technician

It is EXTREMELY hard being a new dialysis technician!!! 🙏🏽 I’m glad they extended your training. Try making sure all your next shift packs and set ups are as close to the machine as they can be. For example, I’ve worked places where they allowed us to put them behind the machine, but I’ve also worked places where they have carts or countertops that they put the set up on. Also, have your bleached cloths ready if you can, like in the saline bucket but don’t have the old water in it. That way while your patient is holding you can at least strip and clean your machine while waiting on your patient to finish. But know this, even with everything set up you can fall behind with an emergency so just take it one patient at a time and pace yourself!

I went to school for Hemodialysis Technician, I just took my test for the ccht exam on April 29,2022 and let me say it was not hard, but it's 150 Questions all scenario based. I received a 75% but the NNCC :Nursing Nephrology Association requires a 95%. I am in the process of re-studying for the exam again before December of 2022. I have family members in this field that has worked between 25-30yrs plus so I get a lot of help and inspiration from them to keep pushing for the ccht certification, but the field considers it a license.

I really enjoyed your video. I have a phone interview with a recruiter for Fresenius tomorrow but I have no clinical medical experience only medical clerical experience, do you think will that hurt my chances? Although I’m 45, my goal is to be a nurse within the next 3 years.
@imeboni

That shouldn’t hurt your chances at all! I believe this is a great field to step into for aspiring nurses!

Hey, so I completed my PCT training at the end of March (passed the exam with a 95 woot!) Lol anyway.. now I'm on my own and I'm keeping up with the flow pretty good..now I am studying for the CCHT certification.. have you completed this? If so how was it? We are given 18 months from start date to complete it and I'm not waiting that long lol. Thanks!
@imeboni

Yayyy🙌🏽! I haven’t taken it yet.. I left the floor the last time before it was time to take it😅..studying for it as well right now..ill let you know how it goes. I’ve been told to study the water room heavy. Definitely don’t wait that long..its easy to do once you start working alot..but I encourage ppl to take it after a minimum of 8mths!

I’m currently in the RN BSN program. I’m thinking about working as a PCT starting in the summer. However, I did not complete the first semester due to personal reasons. I will go back to complete foundations next semester. But is it true I gotta complete foundations class first before becoming a PCT?? For idk if I’ll get the job for not completing it.

It depends on what you are going for. I work as a dialysis pct and the company I worked for trained me on the job. If you have dialysis companies in your area then I would apply to them because they train you on the job and you don’t have to go to school for it.

I was thinking about doing PCT in Peds department. But what is a dialysis PCT?? Also does every state have dialysis companies??
@imeboni
@imeboni 5 месяцев назад
@evieluna6318 yes I believe every state has at least one dialysis company. Some have more Freseius than Davita. And some only have Davita. If you’re not doing PCT for dialysis you may need what they are telling you.

I finished a course for PCT but I am waiting just for the internship. They told me they are going to send me to Davita but my questiond is, Can I apply now for Davita to work with them until i do my internship or I have to wait until I finished the internship. Thanks 😊
@imeboni
@imeboni Год назад
You can apply now. Having a course can help but Davita will train you “their” way.

Hi, I am Deaf and I am going to start my new job as a PCT at DaVita on 4/15. Do you think me as a Deaf PCT would have issues with the patients at DaVita dialysis? I am trying to be flexibility with myself when I start my new job.
@imeboni
@imeboni 4 месяца назад
If they hired you, then you are capable to do the job, unless you didn’t tell them 🤷🏽‍♀️. I’ll just say this, not that you’re not already doing it but just be extremely observant to know the signs of when patients have low blood pressure or have something going on and teach people sign language. And be extremely observant on the floor to know when your coworkers may or may not need you.

@@imeboni oh ok, i should have no problem with my job. And would like to know why everyone who become a PCT require to take the test to become actual pct in the positions? a lot of people don’t expect about the tests, all we do is apply the position and doing the job right away.. what’s your thoughts on this?
@imeboni
@imeboni 3 месяца назад
@@nicholasshukla7380 are you talking about the hemodialysis test at the end of training?
@nicholasshukla7380
@nicholasshukla7380 3 месяца назад
@@imeboni I assume? All I knew was that I had to training for 8-10 weeks until I successfully completed my training then place me to work with actual patients but I didn’t know I had to require to take NHA exam to pass my test then I can become a PCT and work with the patients. If I fail then I may to retake the test again or they let me go. Why is that?
@imeboni
@imeboni 3 месяца назад
@nicholasshukla7380 idk what state you’re in but I am in Georgia. We do our training and at the end of the training before you are placed on the floor you take the company PCT test. If you don’t pass that then you can take it again but you can’t work until you pass the company test. And you have 18months to take the national test.
