Stephanie details pros and cons of working in dialysis clinic. This video is geared towards individuals interested in what it’s like to work in dialysis.
Just a positive note for dialysis techs and nurses. I'm 73+ years old male and have been on dialysis for less than a year and I am one that considers dialysis to be a gift from God to keep me alive, and the angels who He sent to help care for me are the techs and nurses at my center. I strive at each session to let both know that I appreciate them caring for me that day and at the end of the week as we rotate techs, I thank my tech for taking care of me that week.
Blessings to you. I am graduating with my ADN (for RN) in a couple of months and considering dialysis nursing. My father was on dialysis nearly 14 years and it had fascinated me since the first time I saw his treatment done in person. I'm considering dialysis as my specialty, but still trying to decide. It is a blessing and wishing you the best.
To: #mustang, Dear Sir, How are you today? I really appreciate your comment that dialisis is a gift from God. I am thinking about going into that speciality and was watching videos about dialisis and I found your comment. Your comment added a million motivation for my desire to get into the dialisis world. May God bless you in everything.
I come from a medical field background. I find it very rewarding. I recently applied to Davita and am pending a second interview. My mom was a long term dialysis patient and to give back to the dialysis community would be an honor. I'm excited. Thanks for another great video
I'm a RN in need of a change. This video was most helpful. I have always found Dialysis interesting. I always admired the Dialysis nurses that serviced my patients in the ICU. It may be time to explore my options for Dialysis Nurse opportunities.
This video is extremely helpful. I'm a new grad working in the ICU currently...however I don't see myself there long-term. I miss communicating closely with patients and it's very hard to get that rewarding feeling when the majority of the patient population is vented and sedated. I hope to transition to an outpatient dialysis clinic soon after graduating from my nurse residency!
Hi Stephanie, I love your videos & if I wasn’t in research, I would definitely consider a career working in dialysis center. Thank you for keeping us informed.
I became a phlebotomist 8 years ago. And never got the chance to put my skills to work due to lack of experience. I’m currently working for a mortgage company and want to get back to into the medical field 😊 I worked for a retirement center 8 years ago and loved every bit of it. Long story short, I have a phone interview with DaVita next week. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 I’m nervous excited
I'm currently enrolled to get my certification in Hemodialysis nursing. After working in the Operating room for 20 years, I have always been thinking of switching specialty for a long time and I finally took the first step. Thank you for this video, it just gave me a stronger desire to switch to hemodialysis even more.
I m a freshly grad LVN student and was looking for something to specialize in and for a company that is huge well-known in America at least with good benefits. Thank you for confirming this. Also, the fact that the populations it affects are my people is a greater plus too cuz I feel more of a sense of purpose. Now I know what more to say for my interview, again thank you
I just came across your video! Thank you so much for your information. I am a new graduate and recently gained my LMSW I've been eager to pursue a career in dialysis ever since my sister underwent treatment.
Hi Stephanie, I just passed my patient Care Technician Exam with The National Healthcare Association. I’m applied for jobs in the hospitals and completed my application with DaVita to become a hemo dialysis pct. I’m hoping to get hired with my lack of experience. Keeping my fingers crossed 🤞 lol. This videos was very helpful . Keep posting plz!!
@@norahkhadka9079 it’s EXTREMELY hard waking up at 3 to be in a 4am then probably not getting off til 6pm you have a lot to worry about but the one thing I like is they pay for you to go to school for 3 months, and everyone there is helpful so that’s a plus, but another great thing is they will hire you even if you have 0 experience and certification a few of the people That started have already quit 😭 I think this is a great job for people who want a career in dialysis or really like to stay on there feet
I’m currently taking phlebotomy. After I get done with that I will start my dialysis tech class in Durham. My granddaddy was gifted 4 extra years of life because of dialysis. I can’t wait to get certified and help bless other people like he was blessed! I have been a caretaker of elderly family members for 8 years now. I’m the baby of my family, so I’m excited to get out there and start my career finally.
I am about to graduate nursing school, and seriously thinking about dialysis nursing as a way to honor my dad. He got almost 14 extra years because of his dialysis. What a way to honor them, by helping others that walk similar shoes. Good luck to you.
Does dialysis require prolonged standing? I would very much like to know if I stand straight 12 hours or can I sit down when they are on the machine? Does it involve lifting?
I'm fresh into the medical field and leaning towards working at a Dialysis clinic as a PCT and was wondering was I making the right choice as far as pay advancement and interacting with people.
Im a new RN here in US basically no dialysis experience or any nursing job experience here. but i have 7yrs ER experience overseas. Im very interested in this field. Hope and pray that i will also pass the interview and get hired too♥️
Hi Stephanie, Thank you for your post. I have been offered two different positions one with Davita and one with Fresnius and I am undecided mainly because of pay and schedule. One position is as a home hemodialysis nurse and the other is in clinic dialysis nurse the in clinic schedule is very long and it seems that it can be very overwhelming while the home hemodialysis position schedule is Monday to Friday however, the pay is also very different the salary of the in clinic position pays double the home hemodialysis position. So my question is what is the difference between the two that makes the pay so different and for someone who is looking to getting into the clinical management aspect of the job would it be better to start as a home hemodialysis nurse? I appreciate your response and advice. Thank you
Shirley Kenol Fresenius has more generous benefits while Davita has more for career development if you want to move up. The difference in pay is probably due to having to come in super early weekend and some late hours and or overtime. You have like either position just depends on your long term goals. Home seems easier but you do more work for less patients kinda like case management but in center is like fast food.
@@kidneycarecoaching3766 Thank you Stephanie for the response and clarification. I think Davita may be best since my goal is to advance in dialysis although, they pay less but it may be a better match for me.
So glad I found you! I have been thinking of becoming a dialysis tech part time. I'm on dialysis 3 days my numbers are good 3hrs.15mins waiting for a kidney. Can I get hired? What is your advice
Can you please explain to me what the difference in roles between a LVN vs RN in a dialysis setting (based in Texas)? I've looked for this info but have yet to find it... the TX BON is very scarce/vague in its description.
This will make it super easy go to a Davita website and look for positions for LVN, if you can find any look at the job description. Then look at Fresenius website and look at their job description for an LVN. If you don’t see any jobs then that answer ur question.
Hey Stephanie. I was on dialysis for 4.5 years and I just got my kidney transplant a month ago. I’m really interested in working at a DaVita. I don’t really want to be a tech... but maybe like a social worker or some kind of administrative person or something. How do I get my foot in the door? Also, is it true that I have to have a MSW to work as a social worker at a dialysis clinic?
Thanks SO much for the video. I am graduating nursing school in May and have been thinking a lot about dialysis lately. Do you think that being a RN in a dialysis clinic will make it hard to get a job at a hospital later in my career?
I just qualified as a nurse and work in bedside care in a nephrology ward. Where u get the opportunity to do your bedside nurse care as well as learn the technical aspect of dialysis. By all means find an area like that whereby you don't lose your skills in a hospital and yet when ready can transfer and opt for dialysis only clinic.
I have wondered how this would work in reverse as I worked as a registered nurse on a hospital progressive care unit and performed peritoneal dialysis frequently. I am returning to work after being off 3 years for multiple surgeries and have applied to local dialysis centers.
I just applied for Dialysis Tech online at DaVitas ...I have no experience but I'm willing to learn. I love helping people and I think it would be a very rewarding career knowing that you are helping to save lives. Please give me advise on how to get the job?
good morning ma, I will like to come and work in any center over there to gain more because am a dialysis technician working with irrua specialist teaching hospital irrua Edo state Nigeria. I want learn more about the job.
Hello! I hopefully you are doing well! I have a high desire in becoming a PCT but I am a little bit afraid because of my short English due I am a Hispanic person. Do you think if it is possible DAVITA accept people like me? Thank you!
Hi! I'm interested in changing careers into Dialysis. I'm older though, I'm curious if you feel this job is harder to break into at an older age? Is it a job that you can retire from? Thank you
Hello, I loved your video! I have an interview tomorrow with DaVita and I am super nervous. I want the job so bad. Any tips on getting through the interview? I have been trying to get in for a couple years and finally I get an interview!!
Matthew Melendez crap 24 for 3 months of training and 25 when you officially start. I currently do 3 nights of home care 12 hour shifts @ 28qh. So that would be more work (a decent industry) but for crap pay. Like I said I live in queens New York and there are LPNs making 30,35,40 qh
Hi, Stephanie just watched your video, I have worked as an acute care Dialysis RN for 7 months I just relocated to Houston Texas and looking for a job in Dialysis, I took a job here as a bedside RN but I really want to work in Dialysis. Do you have any advice you can give me on how to get back into dailysis?
Ehhh. I've been working in the Dialysis field for many years starting out as a Tech, LPN, and now RN and I just can't deal with it anymore. Mostly due to the rude and feeling of entitlement from most of the patients. They may not have the best life, I understand that, however, it's not the staff fault they are in this predicament. Nurses and healthcare professionals are people too. And a lot of chronic hemodialysis patients don't seem to understand that. Some do most don't. That's my opinion on this field. On another note, I start my new job in a different and less stressful specialty and I'm very happy 😊😊😊
You would easily get hired but most providers could only place you at larger clinics. You need at least 1 year experience to be the only nurse in the building. Most ratios are 1 RN to 15 or so patients. Try Davita or Fresenius first...they train, great benefits and advancement potential
I am trying to get my foot in the door, I have applied @ Davita & Fresenius for 2 years, I am a CNA ( 14 years experience) plus just graduate from college with my BS in HCA, but I always get denied.
It's very interesting career, i get a certificate as CCHT, but the big surprise no way to catch any job all facilities need experience in NYC, I'm so disappointed 8 months now and nothing 😂😂
Did you try both DaVita and Fresenius? Try this, stop in at the facility close to your home and speak with the manager. She or he can retrieve your application from the computer system and help facilitate the process. They also have hospital but depending on the laws you may be only able to be a DA in those settings.
Hi. Im a new RN here in the United States and i am interested to become a dialysis nurse but i dunno how to get a certificate . Where and how to get myself into the training. Thank you for the response
Davita.com Fresenius.com or indeed has positions posted in your area, apply online. You could also visit a clinic, attend job fair or hiring event both companies heavily recruit. They offer on the job training usually around 12 weeks coursework and hands on experience. You must be able to pass an exam to keep employed.
I have no experience in dialysis. I worked long term and currently doing case management. Since I was in nursing school, i wanted to work in dialysis. Could you guide me on where to start? What do I need to do? Which will be the best company to start with?
Depending on location, the larger company Fresenius and Davita have the most clinics nationwide but other provide dialysis. Check dialysis finder to locate providers apply online, attend recruitment events or visit a clinic.
I just got hired by Davita, this is my first job out of grad school, the pay is amazing but I am just scared 😱. I was told my caseload is 125 or more; I feel like running😢.
Dialysis machine uses osmosis and diffusion to remove toxin/poison and fluid from the patients body by pumps. Most popular is fresenius machine but many others.
Hi thank you uploading this video. I am really interested in applying for a dialysis nurse. Can you please help me how to apply. Illinois area here. Thank you and God Bless.
The major dialysis companies are doing hiring surge right now in Illinois area. I applied on a Thursday and got called the next day for phone interview. And this past Monday had a in person interview. Check it out
It really depends on the unit & the rules and regulations! I knew quite a few people who where patients and learned to be techs in the same unit& became employed their.
Hello...Mam I'm a Filipino and currently working as a Nursing assistant in a DIALYSIS center here in Philippines...do you have any idea how to apply ? Thank you...
@@kidneycarecoaching3766 hello I just watched your video and it was very much informative. I am a new Rn however I was a Lpn for 12 years but only worked with geriatrics. I have a interview tomorrow with Davita . I feel confident but is there anything you could tell me to better prepare me? Thank you for this awesome video.
@@ninalovee2869 Not wanting to go back and relive that experience. Not even in retrospection. I'm just glad to be out of there, over it, and not looking back. Best wishes.
