In this comparison, the 5150 has a slightly better sound but I know it can be easily corrected with a slight tweak of the EQ on the 6262. Perhaps bump the mid up a bit, maybe a tad more presence? Otherwise they are remarkably similar sounding. Having said that, they do differ a bit design-wise. For instance, the 6262 has 6 preamp tubes whereas the 5150 has only 5. I know that this translates to more gain, but if this is different, I wonder how else the circuit differs. Regardless, the 6262 is an incredible amp. Funny story time: back in January 2009, I bought a 6262 brand new. It was one of the first gen models that were susceptible to it's issue that unfortunately tarnished their reputation (molex connectors using pins that had too high of resistance, causing melting of the connector and continuity failure). This happened to mine, so I popped it open and fixed it with my soldering iron. No problems after that. Fast forward to 2013, situation changed and needed to sell as I needed the money more than I needed an amp. Recently bought a TriRec as I'm getting back into playing and realize I don't like it at all, it's just not voiced to my taste in a metal amp. So I start looking around last weel and spot a 6262 on ebay and it just so happens that the seller lives in the next town over from me, a small music consignment shop. So I buy it on ebay, go pick it up after work and immediately notice that the power tubes have the stickers on them from tubestore.com, where I've always bought my tubes. Then I notice a small tear in the tolex on the front where I seem to recall having the same mark on my amp...I thought, there's no way this is the same amp I bought back in 09...so I open the amp up and see the repair I did. As if that wasn't enough, as I was looking through old emails, I found the old registration email I sent Bugera and I was able to match up the serial number, positively confirming this is the very amp I bought nearly a decade ago. And with that repair holding up, it's still rocking.

There's a lot more definition and clarity in the notes of the 6505. A bit more top end, the Bugera sounds great, a little darker and warmer so to speak. Good shoot out man. I enjoyed it as always.
@bradhargis2261
@bradhargis2261 6 лет назад
SDRmusic I agree. I was looking for the same words to describe what I heard. The buyers sounds a little "looser" in the way it saturates. It's kinda softer distortion which makes it sound a little fuzzier and less defined whereas the 6505 was tight and defined so the individual notes were heard better.

that's the case with a lot of bugeras, if you replace the tubes then it sounds closer since bugera tubes aren't the highest quality

I turn the presence all the way up and then dial in the treble, never more than 3 or 4 max, and it sounds the best that way. A really great sounding amp and I looked at the guts and build quality is solid, with good quality parts

Honestly, you can't beat the sound for the price of these 6262 heads! I listened to this and I was quite surprised and impressed by the 6262. The Peavey already has that pedigree. You know what you're getting with the Peavey 5150 and 6505. With the Bugera, it's a shock. I didn't take this one too serious at first! You can find them for 300.00 or lower all day long. What a value! I'm sold. Ive got a 6505 and the EVH 5150 III with the EL-34 tubes. I'm going to buy a used 6262 and use it to play out! That way I won't beat up my 6505 or my 5150. Damn! Thanks for this video! It sold me on the Bugera. From what I've read, the comments are overwhelmingly positive about the 6262's longevity. It's hard to believe how positive it's reliability is too!

Awesome Hunter! So here's my thoughts listening on my studio monitors. Tonally, the amps are voiced very similarly (obviously haha). That said, the best way I can describe it is that the Peavey just has more..... everything really. It's brighter, deeper, punchier, tighter, and the mids cut through like a knife. Listening to the two back to back, the peavey just jumps out of the speakers in a way that the Bugera doesn't. The articulation also goes to the Peavey because the Bugera seemed to "mush out" the notes ever so slightly which makes the Peavey seem clearer. But again, they are both extremely similar to the point that the cost difference isn't as justified. The Bugera does have much better cleans though. It'd be interesting to see a comparison of the two crunch channels back to back. That's where the "brown sound" is in these amps. P.S. I'm glad I finally swayed you Hunter ;) Keep up the good work!

I've been playing thru a Bugera 6260 Infinium for a couple years now and it's absolutely the best amp I've owned to date. I also have a Laney Ironheart IRT-120, but find myself bouncing back to the 6260 regularly. I just really dig the tone of the 6260 over the Ironheart. I played thru a Peavey 6505+ and really dug it, but being on a budget the Bugera just fit the bill. I'd definitely recommend Bugera for any guitarist on a budget. They really can't be beat. The Infinium technology is a game changer. I did replace the stock tubes with some JJs. The stock tubes were quite noisy and created a lot of feedback. With the JJs and an ISP Decimator, the 6260 kills. I'll probably sell the Laney and grab a Bugera G5 and 1x12 cab for bedroom jamming. I like Bugera that much. Great budget tube amps.

@Rushtallica

I previously owned a 5150 head that I sold and checked out the Burgera combo clone at a local music store as a possible replacement. It sounded horrible and definitely not in the same league as the old 5150 combo I used to play through at a friend's house. Surely the speakers didn't help, and maybe that was the entire problem. Regardless, a couple years later, I got a 6505+ head for $599 that's lasted 8 years since then with no problems, and I paid only slightly more for the real thing. I easily acknowledge that some such as Ola make the Bugera amps (and pretty much any other possible piece of gear) sound great. But even if my experience with Bugera was similar, I'd rather pay a little more for the original amp. Regarding the Laney, I had a VH100R head.The cleans were fairly good, but the gain sounded funky to me, kind of 'boxy' and like some frequencies were notched out.The 6505+ definitely sounded much better IMO. But I previously also had an old Laney AOR 100 watt head. Paired up with a tubescreamer, that thing was a beast and sounded huge. I also preferred the cleans on it even though the tubes were el34's Vs the 6l6's in the VH100R. I regretted not keeping the AOR but was glad to regain the space the VH100R occupied for years. Anyway, just my experience, and maybe I'll get a chance to try one of the Bugeras through a good cab. Ultimately, whatever works best for each player. 8)

I am really looking forward to plugging my Schecter C-1 Platinum FR Sustaniac through the Bugera. I am wondering if I should run my digitech RP-7 through the effects loop. I don't need the distortion from the pedal, but, the wah, delay, flanger, ect would be extremely useful, not to mention having a pedal for volume instead having to adjust the amp and my guitar volume as much.

I recently got a Bugera 6262 Infinium and I've also owned a couple of 6505+ in the past couple of years. The Bugera completely blew my mind. I was looking for a back up amp and I think I found it. Tone-wise they're basically the same amp with the Peavey sounding just a bit better but playing live you wouldn't noticed the difference. Now, built wise the Bugera does have some issues, I bought the Peavey secondhand from a friend who kept it mint and bought the Bugera brand new. The Peavey was a year old when I bought it and I've owned it for the past 2 years and it is built like a tank. The Bugera, being brand new, after just a week of use, one of the rubber feet came off while I was loading it up to my truck. Not a big deal, just changed the rubber feet to better ones but the quality is a big difference. Otherwise it's a kick ass amp for the money.

This is surprising me, but I think, even without the price difference and only tonely speaking, I'd go for the Bugera (and this is getting me really happy because it's the one I own ^^). It's only personnal opinion tho, they sound really similar, but I think the Bugera is more crunchy and dirty, when the Peavey is more precise, but I like my guitar sound like I like my women : fat and dirty! The resonance you refer to only adds a shrill element in my humble opinion. I like the slightly darker sound of the Bugger. And as always, RU-vid compression of both audio and video never really lets your eyes or ears get a taste of the real world. Great demo. Wish I could have heard what you heard. And like Mario Bertino said in the opening comments.... "Dead heat until you figure in the price point, then it's Bugera all the way." For 90% of us out there it's tone for the buck..... Reliability is a close second on that if not virtually impossible to distinguish between the tone quest........

Bugeras sound great(no question, they seriously do.)but yeah.... there is a quality issue. I don't know when they started that new offensive but a friend of mine had an infinium like 2 years ago. Not that reliable. How long have you had that amp for? Also what gauge strings are you on in what tuning?
@agufish
@agufish 7 лет назад
And his Infinium died? I mean at the end of the day, no amp is impervious to technical problems. My Mesa had a messed up relay where I lost the clean channel for a while. I've had mine for just under 2 years, bought refurbed from MF. The lead channel died the first time I turned it on, but since then, no issues. Wouldn't ever trust it for gigging, though. I am using Cleartone 10s for Drop B in this one, any higher tuning than that I use Cleartone 9s.
@RJW14
@RJW14 7 лет назад
His infinium and the replacement infinium (Warrantee) both died. Don't ask me what happened, all I know is that I endured a rant about him not having a working amp friday night 2 days days before a festival. I mean seriously for the money there is hardly better tone to be found but yeah :) He ended up picking up an Engl on saturday for that show. He sold it since because he became a bass player for a different band.

Interesting. I'd almost point to user error since I've never heard of Infiniums having the widespread problems of the originals, but I couldn't really say either way. Well shit, if Infiniums really have problems too then I'm disappointed in Bugera.

You know bugera has cheap shit valves, unlike peavey..that s the difference. Changing the valves in both amps to the same configuration will result in the same sound. Or at least close. Not all valves of one type are the same, also bugera might have done some mods other than the added reverb and removal of resonance

I'll take the Bugera hands down, especially the newer infinium. For how great Bugera heads feel when you play them you wouldn't think they were so inexpensive. I've had the G20 Infinium for 3 years now and it does not feel like a $300 head, the build quality makes it feel like a $1,000 head, Im not exaggerating. I had an EVH III 50 for a day and although it was a brutal sounding amp I couldnt stand how cheap the thing felt when turning the knobs. I returned it and stuck with my reliable Bugera G20 that I bought for a fraction of the price to begin with. The 6262 Infinium is totally going to be my next amp.

Lot of people on here trying to "show their ass" and look like some kind of sound engineering expert but if you ask me these amps sound nearly identical. Maybe the tiniest bit of a richer sound on the Peavey but not enough to pay almost twice as much for. Bugera sounds great at the price point. I understand Bugeras have a reputation for reliability issues but judging purely by sound I'd say you would be crazy to pay a grand for the Peavey when you could get nearly the same amp for just over half as much.
@VHT418
@VHT418 7 лет назад
I actually thought the bugera sounded better in the video, go figure. But when reliability its concerned, I'd take the peavey any day of the week. You can find a used 5150II/6505+ used for around $500-600 easily. Hell, a few summers ago I picked up a clean 5150II head with a valveking 4x12 cabs for 500 bucks!

Mario Bertino I own a 6505+ it’s great I love it, got it for 600 used. You can’t beat that price and this amp is a beast. My friend has a bugera. I’ve played both and in the same room. You can really hear the differences there not the same, you can tell bugera modeled the amp after the peavey but besides some similarities there different. You wouldn’t be wrong getting either amp, but id say get a peavey if you can find a deal.

Peavey is more toppy but the Bugera has more balls and floors it on the low end. Could you gig with the Bugera though, as far as reliability is concerned.
@agufish
@agufish 7 лет назад
Interesting, I think exactly the other way. The Peavey absolutely destroys the Bugera on low-end thanks to the resonance switch. I guess it's more noticeable in a room since it affects speaker movement?
@xxmarshallowsxx-videos2381
@xxmarshallowsxx-videos2381 7 лет назад
Exactly, Peavey is much better.
@sawyerc.6033
@sawyerc.6033 4 года назад
The balls is strictly a matter of where the resonance is set on the Peavey. If the Bugera seems like its got more 'chug', its just an EQ thing. While one IS infact designed and manufactured, for the most part, as a direct copy of the other, they still will not sound alike even if you were to mirror their EQ and have them sitting right next to one n other. The means by which theyre manufactured are worlds apart, so theyre gonna sound different. But that Resonance control gives the Peavey the upper-hand in the low-end department all day long, everyday. There's so much low-end there that it can easily get to be TOO MUCH real quick. Ive got a Bugera TriRec... Direct Copy Of a Mesa Triple Rectifier. Even so, its a different beast all together ultimately. TriRec is tighter n brighter than the Mesa. I like the tone of my TriRec better n would choose it over the Mesa any day, but really its all about personal preference. Im not at all, in any way trying to say I believe the Bugera is the 'better' amp, but I do prefer it personally. Bugera makes great stuff. Buy one, hell, just TRY one n take it for an honest spin, if you got a spec of honesty in your soul, you'll have no quams admitting its got it where it counts in spades!

I've owned both, currently still own the 6505+, and they do sound similar fairly similar when recorded but in person it is a massive difference imo. The peavey sounds like cranked, blow your ears off, and shake your walls low end. It sounds immense and the burgera just didn't do it for me. Hence why it's gone (: when you play a 6505 you definitely feel/sound like the bands who use them. Quality peavey is also way better. At least the USA one is. Love your demos/reviews BTW ;)

One keen to electronics can add a global resonance on the Bugera by changing one resistor by a 1Mega Ohm Pot, logarithmic. Only "down" you have is that the resonance control is then valid for both clean and gain, no separation possible as on the 6506+ without digging more into the electronics. The "default position" Bugera has set the resonance resistor to matches about 9 - 10 oClock on the Resonance knob on the Peavey.

The big issue Bugera used to have is fixed now, and it wasn't even that big of a deal if you're good with fixing things. The issue was a bad batch of connector pins they used in some of the Molex connectors, they ended up having more electrical resistance than they should have, so they tended to generate heat, melting the Molex and killing the connection. I bought a 6262 back in like 2010/2011, and it happened to mine, so I just removed the connector and all that and soldered the wires directly to the board. Problem solved. I'm at a point where I'm no longer playing semi-professionally, but I would really like to play with that incredible tube tone again that makes me want to play. But I'm trying to decide between another 6262 and the Trirec.

Regardless to whether or not they solved the issues in the Bugera amps, I will never own another. I bought the first 6262 that came into my local music store. It lasted all of 3 days. Brought it back and swapped for another. 2 days later...dead. And that wasn’t the end. I ended up with 4 different heads that we’re brand new in the box and not a single one lasted more than a week. Luckily I had just bought one to keep at my rehearsal space, so I didn’t have to chance using one live. When they were operational, they sounded great. And that is a big “when”. Other than that they were nothing but boat anchors.

The 6505 definitely sounded sharper and in focus as well as having fast, snappy transients. The Bugera's sound is slightly veiled and "undisciplined", but I can appreciate it's free spirited openness...it's like a brilliant, delinquent 18 year old that keeps folding with pocket aces, with a thousand in modifications it will be as good as a $3,000 amp

GOOD TO SEE THESE 2 SHOT OUT VS EACH OTHER, I'VE HEARD(NOT SURE IF ITS TRUE) THE 6262 IS A 6505 CLONE AND THE 6260 IS A 5150 CLONE, BUT I'VE ALSO HEARD ITS JUST A REGULAR 6505 CLONE, NOT SURE WHICH IS TRUE

the 6260 (no longer in production) had a single EQ for both channels like a 5150/6505, and is a clone of that amp. The 6262 has a separate EQ for each channel like a 5150II/6505+ and is a clone of that amp. The 5150 and 6505 have identical circuits to each other, as do the 5150II and 6505+.

I play this amp with decent high gain pickups, and it is one of the best i ever played, pure based on sound. I do have a VH4 lying around, which is more of an indestructable work horse, but the bugera, despite the fact that it's a very fragile amp, is definately a would bang.
