Part 4 of my series about sorting pellets for your air rifle, air gun, pellet gun or whatever you prefer to call them. The Yrrah roll has been around for a long time as a way to further sort your ammo and bring it closer to perfection. This is how I set up and perform the Yrrah roll. I welcome your comments and constructive criticism below or on the forum.

I thought I was crazy doing this rolling stuff. Thought of this myself. Never did I think to sort them out though. I might do this crazy, ocd type of stuff again. Anyone that seen me would flat out say, wtf are you doing sir? N I would laugh n say nothing now leave me alone.

Harry is a great shot and very clever guy with Air Rifles. He started the Long range Air rifle shooting that we all enjoy now. I have shot with him a couple of times . Good guy.RegardsChris Thomas

I think you are not correct on the assertion that you must head size before rolling. It doesn't test "relative" size between head and skirt. The geometric proof has been shown on AGG and AGN. You might be able to check my assertion there by doing this test: After whatever sorting you want to do, do the rolling BEFORE you do head sizing and then actually measure the head sizes of the pellets you have rolled and see if you have not INDEED sorted on head size in the rolling process. I assert that you WILL indeed discover that rolling sorts on (head size + skirt size) and checks axial symmetry as well. Either way, thanks for the videos, you done good.

Glad you're enjoying it. It's not a bad thing to geek out on this stuff. It's good because it helps you to pay attention to all the little details.

Congrats on EBR that was some excellent shooting under pressure. Enjoyed meeting you there and thanks again for the hat. When you do the roll of the pellets you have already sized them, have you not? Won't the sizing make the head and skirt the same size and then won't they just roll straight down the glass? OK skip this question. I see in an earlier video that you didn't actually "size" the pellets (push them through a die) you were just checking the head size. Great videos.

Thanks man! It was a long time coming. It was nice to meet you as well. Some rifles like sized pellets and some do not. You have to decipher that for your rifle. If the heads/skirts have been sized before rolling then, rolling is no longer necessary. The roll illustrates the difference in diameter between the head and the skirt not "just the head" or "just the skirt". Correct, I was checking the size. The term "sizing" gets tossed around between checking the size and "re-sizing". Pellet sizers can be a little difficult to find these days and many shooters end up using reloading presses.

We used to feed the pellets down the inside of a BIC pen sleeve. They'd stop at certain heights in the tube. We'd nominate a range within the tube say 2cm long. We'd sort them into batches like that. Back then we didn't have the luxury of manufacturer sized pellets , and all we used was Bisley Magnums. Dreadful things. JSB have a lot to thank for

That's pretty creative! Simple, easy, effective, and dare i say.... CHEAP! lol Thank you for sharing.

I forgot to mention I'm not sure if they make those tubes to that size any more? We called the process '' Bic'ing "

ah... thats too bad. lol... "Are those Bic'd pellets your using today?"

Pellets now compared to the late 80's are so much better. The difference in accuracy is incredible .

Does skirt size even matter in the first place? As soon as the air is released and the pellet starts moving, the skirt is going to expand anyway, and it'll pretty much always be swaged to the same size in the barrel assuming the heads are roughly the same size in the barrel to begin with.
@Crete1943
@Crete1943 4 года назад
Indeed. It would be more interesting and telling what happens if fired pellets were captured undamaged and then tested using the Yrrah roll for consistency.
@SnowblindOtter
@SnowblindOtter 4 года назад
@@Crete1943 That still wouldn't yield anything useful, because it's still just a function of the head size. Skirt size doesn't matter at all, if the head size isn't correct for the airgun, then it's not going to engage the bore evenly in the first place.

What if there was a slight weight distribution issue like say the head had slightly more weight than the last pellet head or the skirt was a little thinner than the last,wouldn't that effect the outcome of the roll path? Or does weighting them before hand eliminate that problem? Good luck this year at EBR,I wish I could go.
@Atoyota25
@Atoyota25 6 лет назад
Weighing before should eliminate the weight variances. Head or skirt specific weight variances would be exceptionally small. They would show up during the inspection process. For example, You would notice a deeper pocket inside one pellet skirt vs. the next. You would only see something like this from tin to tin, not from pellets that came out of the same tin.

To add, the outer skirt is just extra flashing, I'm sure that's possibly negated in the barrel . ....maybe ;)
