Uh, oh - Vanessa....What a great episode. I can't help but love Dr. Sweet. A gorgeous love scene. I loved all the fabric - Vanessa's skirts I guess - pooled around them on the floor of Dr. Sweet's office - like bat wings. They do neat things like that; it gave me a start when Vanessa first walked into Dr. Seward's office; filmed from behind, her turned-up collar looked like Dracula's cape. But no more theories for me; I'm just going to enjoy watching it all unfold now.And the poor Creature - the character I adore most of all. He sure knows how to rip my heart out; all that pain he felt in the alley after his son was frightened of him. I actually said shhhhhh! he's your father! at the television - What an actor Rory Kinnear is. And I find the Creature beautiful. Is he every going to be happy? It looks like tho, from the Season 3 preview, someone is going to make it a little better. ;) I've never seen a more beautiful monster.I love the new character Catriona - research is fun, and I have always loved fencing. Lily was great too - teaching women how to defend themselves was awesome. The tango with Justine was wonderful. She reminds me of someone who needs a heart like in the Wizard of Oz - the scars where her heart should be. Hopefully, she will put all her pain behind her too.

One thing I wonder is if Dracula has a "monstrous" ammearance in this show. Some movies and books picture him as someone charming and beautiful who can transform into a monster. He's often depicted as a big bat monster. Not sure if he'll have a more vampiric look so to speak that might be revealed in the finale or if he will always look human.

I know they're saying it's a "falsehood" but to even bring up that people think he can't walk by day is stupid. It's an anachronism and insult to Victorian literature. No one originally thought vampires burned in the sun. That idea was popularized in 1922 with the film Nosferatu and ironically it was a German expressionist film, meaning it was meant to be taken as metaphor. Count Orlock only died by dawn's light because he had fallen in love in that film. Even the 1931 Dracula movie with Bela Lugosi never claimed sunlight was a weakness. That only came up in the sequels when American viewers started to take Nosferatu's dissolving at dawn literally instead of symbolic of love defeating his evil. No one thought vampires burned in the sun for at least another forty years with Dracula's daughter (the first American film to indicate it). Both Dracula AND Carmilla could walk about by day just fine and no one in the nineteenth century reading world was surprised by this fact. They were just weaker by day and didn't shapeshift to bat (or in Carmilla's case, cat form), wolf or mist form by day. How the Hell did Vanessa do "research" that gave her pop culture tropes from nid-twentieth century cinema? Did she time travel? It's like they're trying to idiot proof the show for modern viewers all of a sudden and it's getting insulting. I'm feeling condescended toward.

Why do I get the feeling she is Dracula (or at least a vampire)?

Lily (a/k/a Jacqueline the Ripper), although I understand where she's coming from, usually just makes me mad, especially since she was beating up on the wrong guy (a/k/a my darling Creature). But now after last night's episode, I'm gaining a little sympathy for her and she has (a little ) softness about her now. I always love her gowns.Catriona reminds me of Emma Peel of the original Avengers, all that fencing.
