If you like Penny Dreadful I think you would like Allan Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I think that's were John Logan copied the idea for this show.

***** That movie pales in comparison to this show to be honest lol and Actually, if I'm not mistaken...the inspiration is really being pulled from the actual Penny Dreadfuls of that era. They were like the comic books of that time only they were gruesome horror stories like the ones we know today. LoEG is a great movie but John Logan most definitely didn't copy the "idea" to create this show lol

TheGamingSiren I wasn't talking about the movie I was talking about the comic. And if you see the characters from the comic book their almost identical from the ones in Penny Dreadful. The main plot of League of extraordinary gentlemen is about a group of misfits teaming up to stop evil forces( these people are classical literary characters) just like in Penny Dreadful. so if John Logan is saying that his idea for Penny Dreadul is "original" sorry but Allan Moore beat him to it first.

Can I just say how amazing Jonny Beauchamp is? He moves so boyishly in real life yet when he plays Angelique he captures her grace and her feminine softness so well. All praise, he's an amazing actor.

Just watched all episodes of Penny Dreadful over the past 3 days. Outstanding. A superior show with fascinating characters. The performances were exceptional for most of the main actors. Don't know how I missed this all these years

I just found out it is over there will not be a season 4. Didnt know this show even existed but when i started to watch it i fell in love with the era the complicated characters, think it could have gone on for much longer. I get vanessa ives is the main character but there is so much going on the side. I truly dont get how some shows have 8 seasons and are horrible and this masterpiece is finished prematurely?

Awaken dabeast a bit late here but let me just share with you what my acting teacher says. She says that somethings must finish prematurely, or not even get started, so they can remain unique; otherwise, they become another one from the bunch.

i agree. this was such a beautiful, gorgeous show, and i wanted more of it. it seems unfair to me they ended it so abruptly! ethan hasn't even seen the resurrected briona! and catriona was such a promising new character, and before anything happens with her, the show's finished! and what about lord hyde? dr. jekyll hasn't even transformed yet! and ethan didn't even get to kill dracula, after dracula hinting that the werewolf was his downfall. that hadn't happened yet! they haven't fought at all! ugh! i'm so disappointed they ended the series prematurely!

Those impeccable waltzes were one of the things that made this show even more memorable and exciting for me. I absolutely loved them and how they increased the dramatic effects for each scene- adding an extra romantic, sentimental touch to the storytelling of dark tales in a bygone era. Penny Dreadful is an unmatched favourite of mine in many, many aspects.

I love seeing the behind-the-scenes aspects of shows. It shows how concept translates to what we see on the final edited scene. Btw Dorian's fancy ball scene was absolutely stunning...and I bet it was logically challenging to film. Yet the final result was fantastic! I love the attention to detail in this show.

Once I found out this was Josh hartnett's new show I had to watch, I was late of course. Only started watching on Netflix a few months ago. Showtime spends loads of $$ & can only afford 3 seasons. Like The Borgias. Omg loved that show.. but this was great i just hated to see Vanessa die. But also this show was creepy n the trusts that it told. All that devil talk and possession is very real.
