If you want to learn more about why “white racism/reverse racism” doesn’t exist, these are great resources: www.aclrc.com/myth-of-reverse-racism www.vu.edu.au/about-vu/news-events/news/what-is-reverse-racism-and-whats-wrong-with-the-term guides.library.cornell.edu/oluo/race And @ Blairimani @ racialequityinsights @ that.inclusionlady are all great educational instagram accounts to follow!

Look up definition of racism and stop saying nonsense. "People being mean" to you due to color of your skin, whatever that color may be, is racism.

@@rachaelmerida what "power" does the white electrician have? Or nurse or office worker? By your own definition they can't be racist. They only color that has power is green. I don't know how old are you but it's time you learned that

Anyone can be a victim to xenophobia and racism, being white doesn't change that and your one anecdotal experience doesn't invalidate people who have.

Due to the systemic structure of society white people do not experience racism. They can experience prejudice but it is not racism. White racism or reverse racism does not exist. I am using my own experience as an example. Listen to black women, listen to major organizations, white racism does not exist

"Experiencing prejudice" based on skin color is the definition of racism. I really hate the disservice today's youth are receiving from the current education system.
@rachaelmerida

They have to a minority or marginalized AND criticized for their skin. White people aren’t either plus the beauty standard is generally white or lighter skin. Therefore not racism.

@rachaelmerida the white population is smaller than African, Chinese, Indian, on a worldwide scale. It's silly to suggest that we don't experience racism. You're just confusing your own little personal bubble for the entire world.

@@rachaelmerida At what point is prejudice racism? You could teach hate to a child from ignorance or propaganda because these thoughts are not innate, even so I think there is a predisposition to point fingers at the "other" when wronged. This can take the form of microagressions or even internalized hate towards your own ethnic group, which I have witnessed first-hand. It's harmful to gatekeep racial prejudice to specific groups when anyone can become a victim.

as a black dude, this ain't it. i think your idea of what racism stems from mostly just an issue of language used around racism; racism is any prejudice on grounds of race, meaning any race can experience racism since any race can be prejudiced for those reasons. what you call racism IS racism, it's just a specific kind: systemic racism. systemic racism is what occurs when ordinary racism occurs from a figure or system that's in power while the group against which they're prejudiced has no or very little power. tl;dr, white people CAN experience racism, they CAN'T experience systemic racism (at least in america) also, specifically what you talk about in the video is DEFINITELY racism. you being bullied about your curly hair because it's seen as unattractive is a result of racism. people have those thoughts on curly hair because that's generally a trait black people and jews tend to have. just because you're white doesn't mean you have exclusively white traits, or at least traits that are recognized as such here in america
@rachaelmerida
@rachaelmerida 24 дня назад
Yes it is an issue of language. I’m just calling what is against white people “prejudice” and not “racism”. Then theres racism and then systemic racism on top of that. I appreciate your comment. I am listening to a lot of black people and educational accounts/resources on this so I appreciate you saying yours. Just, most of what I’ve heard has been that white/reverse racism doesn’t exist. And I’m inclined to believe that. I don’t know why white people want reverse racism to exist so badly. Also absolutely curly hair hatred and many beauty standards, stem from/are rooted in racism. Texturism, and the whole “closer to blond hair blues eyes”, strong features/noses etc. Its all white supremacy. Everything comes back to white supremacy. And just cause i feel tiny aftershocks of that doesnt mean im experiencing racism, i dont know I just can’t sit here and say white people experience racism. I linked some things in the pinned comment that I’ve learned from that explain better than I am if you want to see where I’m coming from

@rachaelmerida the exact reason that i tend to use language surrounding the issue that refers to all racial prejudice as racism is just the fact that it ultimately is the best way to communicate the issue, especially between races. the reason it's the best way to communicate the issue is because by recognizing all of these things, both racism against black people and milder forms against white people, you're able to make people understand that this isn't just an issue impacting one group, but a small chunk of a much larger struggle that ultimately pertains to classism, a variety of oppression that doesn't see color but manifests in ways that do. it's harder to move forward when we're continuing to divide ourselves in this way and saying that these are somehow two completely different struggles when they're two experiences united under one problem that ultimately needs to go, regardless of who's experiencing it. i'll also say that reverse racism (in my definition) definitely does exist. i and many other black people have dealt with our families being judgemental at best and downright angry at worst as a result of us befriending people or dating outside of our own race, or doing anything that you usually wouldn't associate with black people like straightening hair or listening to rock music. the hatred of all things white in our communities is racism. now, some of it can be understood, as we've definitely dealt with great amounts of racism from white people, but it is still prejudice and racism by definition, and it does definitely become an issue when it's impeding the lives of everyone involved. you'll notice that the issue i provided isn't systemic, but i would still call it racism, just not systemic racism. that said, I do very much appreciate you having an open mind. it's very important when it comes to this type of thing as i'm sure you know by now. i just try to take care to explain WHY i think that this specific type of language is important, because by separating racism and types of oppression that stem from racism you then allow it to be forgotten that those things stem from racism, and thus leave out a part of the struggle and prevent it from being addressed in full.

That is fair. For clarity and communication for the general population I can see how that would be helpful. And I agree classism is HUGE. It keeps the poor bickering amongst ourselves while capitalism continues to thrive on our broken down backs. Yes and in your example there is just where the language difference is I would just call that prejudice. Because I know I would be hella prejudice to white people after 400 years of slavery. I understand where it comes from so its simply not offensive to me as a white person. Like I honestly have very little sympathy for white folks lol (I do for other things like ableism, homophobia, transphobia etc) I just don’t get the white people with a persecution complex. And I appreciate you talking with me ❤️ I am constantly learning new info on so many things and love changing my mind when new/better updated information or science comes out on things. I can definitely see the separation point. I have learned about the stem/root of things so i know, but if someone doesnt then in the separation, things can get lost. I have brought up racism before on my page in regards to beauty standards because i talk about that on my page a bit, but i try to always mention where the standards stem from because i know its important and not enough people know. Again I really appreciate your responses

its not racism against white people but it IS very rooted in actual racism which is what influenced eurocentric beauty standards and actually the term for discrimination against hair types is more aptly labelled 'texturism' and obviously its not racist to white people but at the same time theres a lot more going on than 'oh they were just mean to you sweaty' I say this as a south asian person can't say I know what its like to experience the racism black people do in many countries, but I have to say that theres more to it even though its not accurate for a white person to claim they face racism

and xenophobia is another type of discrimination which I have to say, was possible even for some groups of white people historically such as some european immigrants at some points in US history. its not the same exact thing as racism

Yes yes yes 🙌🏼 its all rooted in white supremacy and racism! Texurism is such a thing and the farther you are from 4c hair the less you are ridiculed. People are always mad when I say this stuff is rooted in racism and get all defensive, like I’m just simply telling you the origins! If you feel triggered by that go journal about it and come back lol

Prejudice and racism is the same thing, one just has a more specific definition because it is prejudice that discriminates by race. Your arguments are flawed because, similar to the idea of black slavery, white racism or reverse racism as you call it implies a juxtaposition that does not exist. Racism is racism. Every race and ethnicity can experience racism. I myself as a Jew have experienced it, but my skin is what you would likely consider white. Roughly the same skin color as yours.
