I would have to toughen up a bit if I lived in New England. My wife is from Boston and we get up there a lot. I prefer Cape Cod in the summer though! I went on a motorcycle trip a few years ago and rode around New Hampshire, Vermont and upstate New York. It was a blast. Thanks for watching!
I live in Indiana. Next week it's supposed to be close to 60 degrees sunny and dry. Normally I would be out riding and loving every second of it. But one week ago I got a pacemaker defibrillator so I have 5 more weeks of restrictions.😣😣. I should be good to go by Spring. I retired May 1st 2017. I love it. When I see some of the guys I worked with their first question is how do you like retirement. My answer is always the same. If I had of known how great it is I would have retired straight out of high school.😂😂😆 Ride safe.
Here’s to a speedy recovery and you’re back out on those Indiana back roads by Spring. I think I’ll adjust very nicely to retirement. Thanks for the well wishes and thanks for watching.
That’s getting pretty close to riding weather. My low limit is 50 degrees which is doable most of the year here in Georgia. I’d have to toughen up if I lived farther north. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ride safe.
I purchased my 2007 Ultra Classic in late 2018 with 47K on it and it had a used battery, so I don’t know how old it was when I got it. I traded it nearly 3 years later with 71K and the same battery. It had heated grips on it for the last 6-8 months, I never noticed any issues with the battery, other than it cranking slowly when it was below 45°. I only put it on a tender for a couple of nights, when I knew I was going to be starting it below 40° in the morning. The new bike has needed the tender a few times…the added electronics are harder on the battery. Even when it’s not running. Nice seeing 2 videos from you in the same month.
I thought that when I retired I would learn how to shoot pool and drink beer everyday at a pool hall. I retired 7 years ago and joined a gym and now I'm in the best shape of my life at 69.
Definitely Remembered I Had Always Wanted To RIDE MY 1989 Harley Davidson Motorcycle in every month but it was so hard and really Appreciate when I DID..All 12 months...But try traditional 1st day of year and Christmas day very important for RIDE new bicycle. The Same Thing with GA Ramblman and February still is hardest for chance of all months and once really rode February I was really ready for March and beyooond.....you know infinity and....my toy story.....
It was a true pleasure meeting you GA Ramblin Man. You're correct, I've been following your channel since 2018 and haven't missed one video. We definitely need to hit the Georgia mountain together this Spring and/or summer.
Hey gang, I'm in D'ville and have had my 2020 Heritage 114 since December...and I too had to replace my battery (kept it on trickle charge too). I'm in for a ride too! Holler and I'll go!
@@daviddudley6473 I’ll try to set up a weekend ride for us in the area this Spring when it warms up. There are plenty of nice roads we can take a ride on for the day and end with a nice meal at a local place. Sounds like a plan! How are you liking your Heritage so far? I’ve had mine 2 years now and it’s the best motorcycle I’ve ever owned for sure.
Went for a ride on my Heritage yesterday and went on a ride on my MT07 today. I got a sissy bar/back pack bag from Walmart that works great and is very affordable. I also have the Harley bag that sits on the luggage rack. If you get another battery, get one with a 240 cold start amps. I got one from J&P Cycles That was about $150.00. Drag Specialties gyz16HL for my sportster. It was doing the same thing.
I added a sissy bar and luggage rack to my Heritage and got a really nice Saddleman bag that fits great. Not too big and not to small. Fits either on the rear seat or the luggage rack. I’ll do a video soon. Thanks for watching.
@@charleyrider9775 I have engine guards on mine but have not added the soft lowers. The breeze on my legs doesn’t usually bother me unless it’s really really cold. I’ve ordered the rear saddle bag guards to complete the set. I’ll show them in a video soon when I get them installed. Thanks for watching!
Can’t wait for my trip to Florida in April. Taking the Heritage in next week for its 10,000 mile service so it will be purring all the way south. Take care!
I'm in Canton GA about 10 mins from Cumming. I have a 2019 Road King Special. I use a trickle charger and I'm on the same battery since I bought it new in 2019. Starts right up still. Must be a big difference in charger brands. Great to see you out and about!
I bought the least expensive HD tender they had. I will probably get a new one to make sure that’s not the problem. I actually live between Canton and Cumming in the metropolis of Ducktown, GA. Ha! It’s a suburb I guess. Thanks for watching!
@@GARamblinMan I recognize the routes =) when I have a full day, I try to make it up to ocoee tn around the lake/reservoir and back down 60. Maybe we'll bump into each other on a ride sometime! Safe riding!
That warm weather sure had me looking at my bike, but didnt get free to ride it. I have known several people over the years who either didnt retire or went back to work after retirement. Both my dad an his brother worked togeather in their own busisness most of their life. They have now "retired" but they are still getting up every day an doing the same stuff they always did. Dad seems to need to feal like he acomplished something every day. His brother seems to need to feal like he turned a profit every day. While they both could now just go fishing every day, they wont. Tried an failed to get them to take a day an go fishing with me. I have worked with people who were also working after retiring. A few hinted at not getting anong with their wives being home all day, every day. So they way I see it, the people that cant retire either are workaholics, have no hobbies or have marrage problems. As long as your wife can put up with you being home, you have hobbies an your not adicted to work, retirement should be great.
Great points on retirement. I’ve always enjoyed my work for the most part (there are definitely a few days I’d like to forget). But it’s never defined who I am and I have other interests that are important to me. I have a wonderful wife so I think I’ll adjust just fine. Workaholic I’m definitely not. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ride safe.
I reccomend Viking for your bags. They are great quality and half the price of the Harley bags! I've got a 2018 heritage and the Viking bags work great with the Harley sissy bar and storage rack. I enjoy your videos, keep on keeping on!
I just purchased a Saddleman bag for the sissy bar. I’ll do a video on it soon. I picked it for the size - not too big and not too small. Viking bags are great. I’ve seen lots of them out on the road. Thanks for watching. Ride safe.
Yes! I’ve been riding in this weather as well! You’re a star now! I had a lead acid battery start to get iffy after three years, so I replaced it with a lithium ion battery. It starts the bike much more quickly. I spent $200 for some Harley heated grips put them on and they lasted me all of six months. I like the battery powered heated gloves better.
I replaced mine with the standard OEM Harley-Davidson 17.5aH battery. Cost me $131. We will see how long this one lasts. I love my heated grips. Two winters and toasty warm hands has been a big plus for me. Ride safe!
My mechanic told me that the standard Harley Davidson battery is actually quite good. So in this case you can’t go wrong by buying from Harley Davidson.
The one sold at the Harley Davidson dealership near me. They don’t make their own batteries so I don’t know who actually manufactured it. I do know their boots are made by wolverine. I have a pair that I got on sale that I like a lot. I could endorse everything that I purchased with a Harley Davidson logo on it with the exception of the heated grips!
I bought my last pair of boots at the Harley dealer and have been very happy with them. Didn’t know they were Wolverines. I have Harley gloves and a mesh jacket and I’ve always found their quality pretty good. It’s a cold weekend here with maybe snow tonight in the North GA mountains. Hurry up Spring! Have a great weekend at your super new lake house.
Not all battery's or trickle chargers are equal. I went though a battery every other year on my shadow when using the battery tender brand. I switched up optimate and it's been 4 years on one battery. Not sure if that's the only factor, may have switched battery brands. I buy whatever is locally in stock.
My tender is old and a cheap one. I think with the new battery I’ll invest in a newer better one. I ended up buying a replacement battery from the Harley-Davidson dealership. Cost me $131. Hopefully it lasts longer. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ride safe.
I'd be ecstatic for some 55F degree days; we recently had a -22F morning which is one reason I use my dealer's winter storage program. Heated building (my garage isn't), trickle charger, etc and they put on a nice feed on "Visit Your Bike Day" which is coming up in a week. Belated congrats on your upcoming (and well deserved) retirement .... working on the same here (I turn 70 this year). Was curious what model Arai you wear- I bought a Defiant-X (closeout) and it's taken some getting used to compared to my Bell SRT- the latching system and it's tight putting it off and on but once on, I'm amazed how comfortable it is.
Hello sir about 7 years on the battery if on a maintainer and I’m in a similar climate as you. I would suspect your maintainer. Maybe it’s has an issue or is to old. Check your fuses. The tender leads as you know know has its own. Also your battery leads might be loose.
The tender I use is old. I should probably replace it. Have a new battery now and everything is tightened down. I though 2 to 3 years was a pretty short life but the tech at the dealer said that was about average. Who knows. I just bought a new battery and installed it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
The technician at the Harley-Davidson dealership where I bought the replacement battery said 2 to 3 years was about normal. I replaced it early than waiting too late and getting stranded somewhere. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@charleyrider9775 thanks for the tip. I paid $131 at the Harley-Davidson dealer. Just checked the Batteries Plus website and they have an equivalent one for $115. Lesson learned. Thanks again!
@@GARamblinMan I used to take the bike in to work in the morning when it was dark. My coldest was 27 degrees. Fortunately it was a short ride - 14 miles or so.
I rode once about 50 miles on a clear cold day that was in the 30’s. Despite my love of motorcycles, I said never again to that little adventure. I guess I should toughen up.
