I think it’s important to note that many simply will never be ready to get lower on the bike. That’s okay and theirs nothing wrong with it. Nothing will make someone quit cycling faster than constant back problems on the bike.
@thegoodwheel

Thank you for sharing that Usman!👍🏾

I think once you are good fitness, healthy weight and have a sub 10kg bike the rest is just marginal gains. If you have all the above then you can easily keep up with someone on a 10k bike with the same fitness if you are in a race. That being said who doesn’t like buying nice stuff 😂

Agree. I ride a 90s steel frame with 11s components and handbuilt aluminum wheels, latex tubes, top-shelf tyres. I keep my drivetrain super-clean by waxing the chain every 200k. The bike is as fast as any modern bike, the only problem is me.

Bearings 🙌. This is the biggest reason people swapping wheels feel faster, not aerodynamics. I will die on this hill. Sure aero dynamics come into play, but that perfect, slow speed roll out of your driveway on nice bearings is where you feel fast first. Keep spreading the good word!
@thegoodwheel

Thank you Christopher! I am right there with you on that hill!👍🏾

I am fairly new with around 4 years in. I ride a Cannondale Supersix with almost all of the factory spacers installed. I've now completed a couple of fast centuries where I stayed in the drops the entire time with no pain. I can probably cut down the steerer and lose some of those spacers. I'm just concerned about my knees striking my chest if I go much lower. Knees striking the chest doesn't seem like it would be very efficient.

Great video with some really helpful information. My favorite part is about the headtube stiffness. So many riders will give that stiffness up by adding several spacers to accommodate for a poorly fitted or selected bike. There are so many nice options with higher stack and shorter reach that can reduce or eliminate the need. BUT...an endurance bike isn't as cool as the bike bikes the pro's ride...LOL!!!
@thegoodwheel
@thegoodwheel Год назад
Hi Kevin! Thank you for sharing that insight that is correctly stated. 👍🏾 I agree, there are so many good options out there in endurance oriented frames that will perform well enough for most cyclist.

@@thegoodwheel I got back on bike. I’m not at your level but it’s always been a strength of mine. I do maybe anywhere from a 20-30 mile loop 2-4x a week. It’s only been 2 months. I got a Trek Emonda since there is a Trek dealer near me. It’s fast, stiff and great on hills. My point is, a lot of cycling videos on YT are British ( which is fine ) but also showing 130 lb 5 hr riders that are semi pro. It’s very informative but not as down to earth and realistic as yours.

Great video, mate. Sold my Cervelo Soloist which felt great rocketing on twisty roads but ultimately too fatiguing. Bought a Litespeed Ultimate and never looked back. Fits me like a glove but still racy without the aggressiveness and stiffness of the Cervelo. Added some 50mm Hunt carbon spoked wheels and feels awesome.

I keep nodding my head in agreement with you but also notice how quite the roads are.... if only it was like that here. I'm from Norfolk in England, 1 mile from Royal Sandringham, but it's not like that. Keep up the gd work😎🚲

great information. I agree with teaching your body to get as aero as possible and this is a bigger factor. on a side note, some tips for your video productions, take the camera out of auto settins such as auto focus and Iris so it does not "hunt"

A stem with higher angle may help with those that have a problem getting into a shorter headtube performance bike frame. Looks awful sometimes but will help with comfort.
@thegoodwheel
@thegoodwheel Год назад
Thank you for sharing that Anthony! Yes, or flipping a stem at times can be helpful... but can be tough on the eyes.
@cosinus_square
@cosinus_square Год назад
My philosophy is 'less than 15% body fat, then invest in top shelf equipment', obviously, if you want to take it further. Endurance bikes for most people is the better choice. If the body carries extra weight, it's not as efficient as it can be, it also wastes all money spent on light aero frames and wheels without making any difference whatsoever.
@thegoodwheel
@thegoodwheel Год назад
Thanks for sharing that COSINUS!

It is possible to raise the bar and bring it closer by inverting the stem. On a 100mm stem with the typical 7 degree angle, a flip will raise the bar about 2cm. This will have no effect on stiffness of the steering, because no spacers will be necessary to raise the bar 2cm (though you can still add some underneath the inverted stem). Keep in mind that lower bars are not always better. If you don't ride faster than 30km/hr, the discomfort caused by a lower front end will cause you to stop and rest more often, such that this time will exceed the time lost by riding a bit more comfortably with higher bars, but slightly slower. When you are more comfortable, you won't have to stop to rest as much, and even Tour de France riders in the 80's had bars almost parallel to the saddle, riding on lightweight steel frames.
@thegoodwheel

Hey Luis, thanks for the video. When I get back in town I was going to go see Chris at the big "M" cycle shop in coral cables for a fitting. Are you still based in Pines? Do you know of any other good fitters in the area? Facebook groups seem to recommend some lady in the Hollywood/Dania-ish area. Can't remember her name.

discussing frame size, does a frame with a relatively low seatpost length (about 13 centimeters), indicate that the frame is too big? I'm in a situation where frame size 52 feels too big, and frame size 49 looks too small. Thanks
