y’know what i wish they added in the movie? the times where charlie cried. they cut out so many parts that showed that charlie was a real, authentic person and not just a numb, awkward freshman that was too drugged to show vulnerability. the times he cried highlighted who he was; a scared person who was afraid of feeling pain and being left alone to bear it.
I personally liked that they didn't add many crying scenes because it made me relate to Charlie more. Numbness is also a major part of Depression. Crying doesn't make the Depression more valid.
in the book his aunt told him to only cry over important things, so it kinda makes sense why they dont show him crying until the end of the movie during his anxiety attack because he’s forcing himself into a mindset that his aunt put him in and it also explains how during the anxiety attack scene why he’s saying “stop crying”
this is basically just everything from the book they missed i love the movie the way it is but as someone who also loves the book these extra scenes make me so happy
I wish they’d kept Chris’s line quoting his dad, “they’re all just stories someday and we’ll all become someone’s dad”. It would have made Charlie’s final monologue that much more touching and brought an even tighter full circle moment.
RIGHT THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING-like that’s such a standout quote from the movie and it would’ve been even better if Charlie got it from his dad
That's why I like books because the book describes everything, including their brother/sister bond after the abortion clinic. They were really there for each other.
I really wish they kept the extended brother scene in bc that tiny conversation we actually got felt too short and not personal enough. This version brings in other elements and is overall just more emotional and sweet
@@dani-xw3lc it’s someone who he used to be friends with. She was Micheal’s girlfriend (his friend.) she doesn’t want Charlie to sit with her because it reminds her of Micheal, who killed himself suddenly
Omg why did they delete the scenes with nina it would’ve made the film way more sad and heartfelt 😭 especially the ones of them being kids cos it shows how close they are
this movie is the one exception for when they take important scenes out. of course i wish they were in there, but the cinematography is so good i simply can’t get mad at them for it.
Having the abortion subplot doesn't add much to the overall narrative, but it's definitely a standout moment in the book. Maybe it was cut to give people a reason to read the book.
the director/writer wanted the movie to be so that all ages can watch it and some of the scenes like the abortion scene would have made it an r rated movie so he cut it. if that makes any sense.
I feel if they left it in it would have made the scene where Charlie calls Candace way more emotional then it already was since we would’ve seen how close they were
@@anthonykent8133 also the scene where he’s calling all his friends, it makes the scene where he calls candace more emotional since she automatically recognises something wrong with his voice and tries to keep him talking unlike his friends who shut him down straight away.
This is one of my all time favorite movies, but when watching it I wished they showed more with Charlie with his family. Seeing this, I wish they kept most of it, especially the brother and sister scene. It was a nice scene that imo added to both charecters. The scene with Charlie and his friend would of been a good scene to keep in to. It adds more to how he was before and how he is now.
Most of the scenes showed him interacting with his family and best friend. But they took this all out to sort of isolate his character from his family and friends because at times when you're an introvert, you really feel this way and deep down you just want to find your place and be accepted by friends. I wonder if there is a cut with all of these scenes added to the movie.
i really wish they had kept the scene with his sister about the abortion, it added a lot more depth to their relationship and both charlie and his sister their character
Perks is a top 5 favorite movie of mine. I can recite this movie front to back. Finding these deleted scenes today just ROCKED my world! However, I think the final film is better without these deleted scenes. The final cut still sells Charlie as a character and his situation so most of these just weigh the movie down even more. The clinic scene wouldn't have added much because Candence was a less developed character. My biggest takeaway is editing is so important. As a writer-director myself, I know how precious we can be with what we create and find it difficult to cut our babies. Very proud that Stephen was able to let go of pages from the book and pages that were shot to give us the efficient final cut. I love this movie and will revisit these scenes here and there to be with these characters in a different forum ❤
I sat there at the beginning of the poem saying, it is gonna be about Michael. Changed my mind, went back to it being about Michael, Changed my mind again, thought it was about Michael, once again changed my mind then realized I was right. It was about Michael.
I wish they kept in the scene with Michael and the one with Susan at lunch and I really wish they kept in the ones with his sister too. They should’ve just kept those and most of these honestly-it wouldn’t have even made the movie much longer and I feel like it would’ve added even more.
Wow. After watching the released version a couple of times and watching these deleted scenes, it does give you a little bit of perspective. There are some scenes I would still leave out and some wish they were in.
@@acanadian80 no no it’s not that it’s if they added it and it was rated R, teenagers couldn’t watch it which is who the author wanted to see the movie.
@@aurora.8095 he understands that hes saying its dumb that a movie can have child molestation in it and be pg-13 but if u have a scene in a abortion clinic it makes it r rated
most of these scenes were cut from the movie to keep it from being rated r bc the director/writer wanted the film to be viewed by all ages bc it would be a shame if it got rated r and the audience the movie is intended for couldnt see it when it came out.
If we wanted a soapy crappy movie we could watch something from Disney. Taking the abortion scene out is to important to his relationship with his sister. Besides which - he could have left it in until he actually GOT an R rating - and then taken it out. .
wish these scenes couldve made a final cut, i heard many had to be cut because it’d give the movie an R rating and it was very important to author/director for teens to be able to see this movie
I won't lie, after reading the book, i was disappointed by the film. The end still made me cry but only because it brought back emotions from the book. I love the portrayals of Patrick, Charlie, Mary Elizabeth and Bill, and i loved when they were on screen. What makes the book so special is how fleshed out and three dimensional almost every character is, even ones that have hardly any focus in the story. I think this was lost a lot in the film. Charlie's relationship with Bill, Cadance, his father and mother and his family in general was lost, which disappointed me when i watched the film. I also don't like how the context of the first party scene was changed. In the book, they toast to him because they genuinely like him; he isnt shown to mention micheal to sam. This makes the moment so special, particularly when he cries. In the film, Patrick says it after Sam tells him that Charlie has no friends and his friend commited suicide. This makes it seem more like they felt pity than genuine admiration as they did in the book. ALSO the phone call between him and Sam- in the books he gave her time and she forgave him. I don't like that they added the phone call in. There was a lack of chemistry between sam and patrick, too. I think if they kept these scenes in the film would have been SO MUCH BETTER.
No sabía de estas escenas eliminadas, lástima que no las colocaron, algunas son las mejores y las que más me llegaron del libro. Igual la película me encanta, gracias por compartir esto💕🤧
I wish they kept the poem, I feel like that’s so important to the book, I wish they mentioned Michael more and discussed Candaces pregnancy. Or like the Christmas dinner with the family and Candace and Chris had that fight and Charlie had to drive. Or his Ohio cousins. Still good film but not as good as the actual book of course. Cinematically still amazing.
I've watched this movie so many times I stopped keeping track after 8, but I had no idea there were deleted scenes. Randomly decided to search it up and cried the whole way through. Thanks for sharing.
You know I cried so much in this movie and it’s hard to explain because I went through a bunch of shit in high school and the only person knows is one teacher and one my closest friends
I didn’t realise aunt Helen molested charlie. Like at all. I finished the book yesterday and watched the movie today, I had to look it up, and then had a sudden realisation after I saw the search results
@@jeremiahsalvadorjuarez553especially the parts where aunt Helen says, it'll be our secret. Which is a common phrase sexual abusers use on their victims to make it seem special, but really it's to prevent the victim from talking about what happened.
Feel like they should’ve kept a lot of these in the movie, they add a lot of depth to the characters which feels lacking sometimes. I especially like the one with his sister getting an abortion, really thought that one was nice cause it actually shows them having a good relationship, where the final cut doesn’t show them ever hanging out. It’s also nice that she finally apologizes for the lunch situation cause that was a dick move.
My middle school years for 7th and 8th grade were like that. Sometimes I even stopped going to the cafeteria and just went to sleep in the nurse's office.
I read somewhere that it is a real poem wrote by a teenager who commited suicide years ago. If you search "Absolutely Nothing poem" or "The Perks of Being a Wallflower poem" you might find more information about it.
@@lanatoneto3815not quite! It’s actually written by Dr. Earl Reum and is called, “A Person/A Paper/ A Promise,” it was written in 1969! Also, it’s rumored he wrote it after one of his students committed suicide as he became an advocate for mental health
i dont understand why they took these scenes out because they would of made the dynamics between characters better and would of added to the storyline perfectly.
I dont think charlie is the same character in the book and the movie. I still love them both, but in the book charlie is so child like and innocent. In the movie he is a lot less so
And then one day he got a letter. Greetings from Your Government It said. They sent him to Clerk Typist School and he could type 60 Words in a Minute. Then he was sent to be a Clerk Typist but when got off the truck they put him in a tank. He cleaned up the blood and the dismembered face of the previous guy and threw up outside the tank. He didn't shoot some children with a _Panzerfaust_ and they blew up the tank before him. The tank's Commander came out of the tank with his body covered in flames. Then he shot himself in the head. His Tank Commander told him it was his fault as he sat in his tank watching the dead man burn. His TC forced a gun into his hand and made him shoot a prisoner in the back - who was wearing an over coat he had gotten from one of their guys. The enemy killed more of the men around him and he learned to kill them. He poured Red Tracer Rounds into their bodies and tore them apart. His TC told him he'd done a good job. They killed a lot more people and saw a lot of people die. They gave him a War Name - _"Machine"_ and laughed because he was now one of them. _"Best Job I Ever Had"_ they all said and laughed - knowing it was the worst. Everyone else in his tank was killed but he wasn't. When he got home from the war they asked him what he'd done. He told them he was a Clerk Typist. .
