Perri's Top 5 Movies of 2022 

The best part of this list is that it truly seems to reflect Perri as a movie buff. It doesn't feel like she's trying to fit awards darlings or anything. This is a true list of a true film lover and I couldn't be happier to subscribe to this channel and feel contemplated ❤️

Cha Cha Real Smooth is also on my list, it deserves to be seen more by people, and hate that its being overschadowed this award season.

I have not seen Decision to Leave (which I kind of expect to make my top 5), but my current list is 5. TAR (Lydia reminded me of Frank Underwood in the best possible way) 4. The Northman (Eggers makes the movies that past cultures would have made if they could have) 3. RRR (an example of modern myth making that puts standard Hollywood movies to shame with how fun and heartfelt it manages to be) 2. Pearl (a period piece that speaks to modern culture in a weirdly powerful way; Mia Goth might now be my favorite actress) 1. The Whale (a movie about the unconditional beauty of humanity, which had me crying the next day when I thought about how many people, especially kids, are told they need to earn or deserve their value)

All my fav movies of 2022 1. Top Gun maverick (a movie that not only celebrates men & masculinity It also says women can be a part of the team too. 🙂) love that they treated Phoenix as one of the guys, a lesser film would have someone Harass her or make a dumb joke. 2. Avatar the way of water: love this is a father child story. We forget that dads are important too. As a girl dad I’m happy 😊 3. Cha Cha real smooth: I like this twist on romance. Saying it’s important to pursue your dreams too & relationships can still matter even if they aren’t the ONE. 4. RRR: pure fun. Adrenaline pumped celebration of a epic BroMance. 5. The Batman: this movie does what no one has done since Nolan. Show why Batman is a hero. Not because he beats people up but because he is a symbol of what the city could be. 6. Thirteen lives: I just love this true story. The brave men who rescued the trapped boys are the real heroes and this is a celebration of them 7. Aftersun. Speaking of Girl dads. This beautiful movie about a daughters reflection about her dad. We don’t get many movies where daughters get to show their love for their dad. I’m sure your dad is proud to have a amazing daughter 🙌 8. All quiet on the western front: this is such a tragedy. Sadly serves as a explanation for germanys descent. It isn’t jokes that led to the rise of the most evil gov in history it was the sacrificing of a generation for petty gains & much like Batman: vengence be it from the allied powers or Batman only inspires evil. 9. GDTs Pinocchio: this was a true experience. So del Toro 10. One Piece Red: this was a achievement for one piece fans. Amazingly put together film. Sorry this is a bit late but I had to think on it😅.

Have to see "Pinocchio" for sure. When I saw "Everywhere" I had a similar reaction to Perri's, and it's nice to see things playing out so well for the film during Oscar season- it deserves all the accolades!

Everything Everywhere was definitely a movie that the world needed and I think that’s why it was so successful. Everyone has been feeling the stress of the past couple years and it’s been easy to give into cynicism. This movie and its themes of love and optimism was so refreshing and it made me cry.

Your list oozes your personality and that is what I love about you as a critic.

I def could argue that these films are the best of the year and a couple of them are in m top 10 and honorable mention. Love your list very much! So happy to hear you say to screw critical consensus as I feel way too many top movies lists by critics are very much in tow to keep their watchers of mainstream film at bay. My personal top 5 are: 1) Marcel The Shell With Shoes On 2) Guillermo Del Toros Pinocchio 3) Decision to Leave 4) Blonde 5) You Won’t Be Alone Also “Scream” is my favorite straight up horror movie of the year too. I don’t count my number 5 as Horror but I know some do.

I haven't seen Glass Onion or Pinocchio yet and a few others. As of right now my favorites are Everything Everywhere (for all reasons you stated), Tar (brilliant Cate and Todd Field with the best directing of the year in my opinion), The Batman (loved Reeves' take), Banshees (the ensemble cast and unique tone/story), and Good Luck To You Leo Grande (I love a two-hander and Emma Thompson & Daryl McCormack were perfection).

I'm so glad you didn't have "The Batman" at number one. I'm getting bored seeing that at the top of the list on other RU-vid channels.

Watched Pinocchio last night. I absolutely loved the twists on the story at the beginning of the movie, before Pinocchio was "born". I did not however like the changes the made to the middle to the middle of the movie, and found myself struggling to keep interest. I'm not a big fan of the animation style, which didn't help. I wish we could see a mashup of both versions of Pinocchio that came out this year. the creative twists on the story at the beginning of Del Toro's version, combined with the classic version of Tom Hank's live-action re-make. Those two combined I think could make for a great overall version that could even be an improvement on the animated classic.

Honorable: The Banshees of Inisherin, Barbarian, Marcela with the Shoes on, and Nope. 5. Avatar 2 (i'm falling in love with this cinematic world) 4. The Woman King (quite the punch) 3. The Menu (well crafted, delicious and funny) 2. Maverick (I never cared for the OG, but this one was divine). 1. Everything Everywhere (this is like the next generation Matrix for me)

I mean my Top 5 were pretty much cemented come September as it usually seems to be on average. 5. Three Thousand Years of Longing I know people didn't enjoy this but I loved it from start to finish. 4. The Deer King Was released the west this year so I'm counting it and this is a treat for someone who grew up with anime features of the 80's and 90's. 3. Lightyear Again controversial pick but I really connected with the story of this movie. 2. Inu-Oh Another anime feature that came to the west this year and it's a Feudal Japanese Rock Opera presented to the 9's. Great music. Great Animation. What more could you want. 1. Everything Everywhere All At Once Yeah, no surprise here this movie is spectacular and I continued to think about it all year. What a great movie. As always Perri love hearing you're takes on things even when I disagree with them and keep doing what you're doing.

Although there I was disappointed in some films this year when I look back there have been a lot of movies that I loved and I thank you and others in your profession for highlighting movies that you're real passionate about. Whoa, Scream 5 came out this year... Feels like it was 2 years ago. That is crazy that the next Scream is coming only a year after this one.

Everything Everywhere all at once is in my top 5 favorite movies of all time. Perfect comedy, drama, characters, acting, story and music. Plus it had one of the best action scenes one of the saddest monologues, and one of greatest cut to black with the movie ending half way. Seen it 3x can't wait for the 4th

For me, nothing this year has even come close to The Batman or Everything Everywhere All at Once.

My top 5 are CODA (I didn’t watch it until February, and then saw it in the cinema in April, so it’s a 2022 film for me!), The Valet (it’s on Hulu and Disney+), The Quiet Girl (gets a wide USA release in February), Everything Everywhere All At Once, and Top Gun Maverick.
