Crows are such beautiful, misunderstood animals. Intelligent, kind, and even beautiful. It's sad more people don't adore them as you do.

Ahh. This made me tear up. I miss my Crow. He finally departed in December of 2016. Was very very tough for me after having bonded with my pal for so so long. They are such incredible creatures. So loving and yet such a handful of trouble. All peaches sounds I am familiar with and remember from my pal. I am glad you rescued him and gave him a home and life. I tried to do the exact same thing but the Crow I found was injured and totally alone. I saved him and brought him back to health but he never wanted to leave me after that. He just didn't. And that was my goal, to get him back to health so he could fly back to join his family. But he didn't want to. He picked staying. He would warn me of any roaming animals like cats or dogs (though he did not know I wasn't worried about cats and dogs) so I would be alerted and safe. He did this in the early mornings from my window while I was still asleep. I would wake up to that or him playing with something and making an awful racket. In the US you are not "allowed" to have a pet Crow. I never understood that logic (I won't go into it as it is sad) and he was never a "pet". He was family. Happy belated birthday peach and I hope you upload more videos of your buddy here. They live a LONG (18 years!) time so I hope you're prepared if he wants to stay around. I am curious if Peach has flown out of your property yet? Has he met other crows? Has he begun to bring home interesting finds and gifts? I found that after a while crows were hanging around my house more and they never cawed at me and those same crows to this day are friendly and not scared of me. Not sure what my buddy said, but he said something to them and word spread as another wounded crow ended up at my back door for help. It's mind blowing to me. These amazing creatures we encounter everyday are so incredibly smart. I hope he stays safe and sound and you have a long friendship. Btw, if he does encounter other crows, keep an eye out for pocks and feather mites. Wild crows tend to be infested with them and it spreads very easy. Pocks are not easy to treat , and the feather mites you have to use some nasty spray to delice them.
@leybrabear
@leybrabear 5 лет назад
Who knows what pocks are besides you & obviously wild crows live w/ mites if this is true, without a human hand using "some nasty spray" on them. Other than that what u wrote about ur rescued buddy was beautiful.
@hotcrazycatladyme168
@hotcrazycatladyme168 5 лет назад
@@leybrabear I could be wrong, but maybe he's talking about chicken pocks? And without a human hand the bird would be dead, so what's wrong with suggesting how to make it more comfortable? I have suffered from skin issues all my life and I would happily suffer in pain rather than to be chronically itchy. I know that sounds nuts but it's true. So I'm with Captain, my Captain on this one. If you can treat the mites then you should. It's not an insult to the rescuer, she seems very nice and caring, it's just an observation. Even as a starving and scared baby bird he was still picking at his mites or fleas. Later videos seem to show it improving though, so she obviously does take good care for him.

They did studies with people wearing distinctive masks behaving nicely and mean towards specific crows. Crows not only recognised individual people or masked faces in the case of the study, who have harmed or helped crows but they also communicated and taught other crows to recognize these people and passed the information on to new generations of crows. Therefore I don't doubt that the injured crows in the area knew to come to you for help.

anna christine Isn’t that awesome? They’re amazing! We (humans) are so arrogant about how we are the smartest creatures on Earth. But there may just be things in this world we don’t know! Crows, elephants, dolphins, pigs, horses, dogs, border collies (I can’t put my Boston terrier in the same category as a border collie), cats, parrots, octopus, oh yeah... and those orangutans, chimps, and... damn I better stop, I could go on forever, right?! 😁😁😁. But those are just my personal favorite animals that might live a smarter life than us.

I watched twice. I loved the part where you were giving him a neck massage and he didn't want you to stop and he would nip you, you would massage him....and he answered back with an, "AHHH !" It was as if he was saying that it just feels so good. I just adore watching how both of you interact with your pets and that they seem to know exactly what you are saying. I even noticed that with Sammy. If I call my cat, the only time she answers me is if she wants to eat.

Thanks for watching, Dori,, and paying attention to all these little details! Peach is a very talkative crow. He is steady talking to us, in his own language though. He knows how to imitate our cat and our coughing! When he is in his outdoor aviary, he is always demanding that at least one flock member be at his sight all the times - either one of us or Kassie! As soon as he loses us from his sight, he'd start cawing and wouldn't stop until we at least let the dog out.
@leyland9999

I had one once too. I brought it up by hand, it was a weak and more dead than living and had been attacked by a dog that was barking and jumping around the poor little bird. So I took the bird and took care for it for months. It was always around me and showed no signs of ever leaving us. Until one day it suddenly was gone. But he returned but he was not alone, he brought several other crows. Probably to say goodbye and thanking us for what we did for all those months. He sat on my shoulder for a few minutes and the other crows looked and made a lot of noise. And then, when the first wild one took off, the others left as well, including Gerrit. He never returned. That was our purpose for bringing him up but boy how hard it was to see him go forever.

I've always had this feeling that under the right circumstances most so-called "wild animals" would choose to make contact with a friendly human who would take care of them. It makes you wonder about nature itself when you see so many animals willing to be friendly to humans. For example, at my job there are racoons, skunks and wandering homeless cats. They have all been friendly to me. StocktonRob

Animals have learned (for good reason) to fear humans. I wish it was a world where they lived among us and saw us as friends rather than predators. What a perfect world that would be.

Crows are very clever. They have a language. Maybe 100-200 different sounds. The crows can make tools to use as food collecting gears. Few animals can do that. They live in family groups. Often together with relatives. They can recognize different humans. I have had crows as neighbors and getting to know certain individuals.

The 'seeking' behavior -- deliberately requesting to be stroked/pet -- on clear display there near the end of the video is interesting. Obviously, it's not exclusively mammals that enjoy physical contact with those to whom they're socially bonded. It interests me in particular to see a tamed crow behave this way, because birds don't / aren't really able to stroke or cuddle with each other the way mammals can and do regularly. So it's like this crow has discovered a natural desire for a method of social-bonding its wild peers don't even 'know' they're missing from their own lives. It's like something buried in the DNA itself, just waiting for the chance to be expressed. Even in the inter-species context.
@chv72
@chv72 7 лет назад
Thanks for watching and for your very nice comment! Yes, Peach is emotionally very needy bird! :-) He is steady seeking for a contact with us. When he is in his outside aviary, he demands that either one of us or Kassie be at sight at all times. As soon as he loses us from sight, he starts cawing!
@jaytee2642
@jaytee2642 6 лет назад
What an interesting observation, Cheddar, that birds don't naturally receive stroking from each other, and yet can develop a deep appreciation of how good it feels from another species. I'm glad you brought that up, because I didn't notice it on my own. :-)
@leybrabear
@leybrabear 6 лет назад
He feels vulnerable alone in outside aviary. Crows are not loners, are always w/ family or w/ a larger group & their security is that always one of the family or group is the look-out sentry for possible danger.
@leybrabear
@leybrabear 6 лет назад
We don't know what 'wild' crows do when not in our sight. When they are hidden away in quiet time, relaxing w/ members of their family/group that they're bonded with. Perhaps some 'groom or stroke' each to some extent. Pet parrots enjoy being stroked by their owners, why not crows? The point being that neither of these animals were designed to live their lives as a human individual's pet & their owner becomes a substitute for how they would be interacting w/ their own kind..

gabriel martinez This is different. They rescued Peach under unusual circumstances & Peach couldn't fly. They were able to provide Peach with a huge aviary. But crows are not pets. Please don't steal one from the Wild. And if You find one You should always contact an experienced wildlife rehabber specialising in Corvids. It wouldn't be fair to such a wild wild animal to try to force them to live in a cage just so You can say You have a crow. But You could possibly volunteer at a Corvid sanctuary instead where You'd be surrounded by them all Day & You'd learn about what social & wonderful animals They are & be gratified that You were helping them either return to the Wild or just helping them live as happy a life as possible in the confines of a Sanctuary & with their daily care. It takes a lot of knowledge & a lot of hard work, time & dedication to look after a wild animal & above all to keep them happy & healthy. Peace

That's the way Peach is always greeting us, as well as trying to get our attention when he is hungry. When he was sitting on the pumpkin, he saw us getting his food ready on the kitchen counter and we filmed him since he was so cute dancing on that pumpkin! He is 21/2 years old now and he is still doing that chicken dance! Thanks for watching!

Peach is such a cutie but somewhat of a troublemaker which gives him his cuteness. Thank you for giving him such a wonderful home full of love.

Just a baby checking the world out! I think he still uses his baby voice when he interacts with you, I'm sure I hear it. Remember the clip when you are hand feeding him in the backyard, and he is gobbling food down and making his baby bird noise asking mom to feed him. So Cute! I love this crow!

Are you sure it's a crow? I mean he lacks the grey breast :) I'm from sweden and our crows has a grey cover on the breast and back. When i saw your bird i thought he was a raven actually because he is pitch black. But maybe when he gets older he gets a greyer? So it might be a crow after all. He looks gorgeous though, and i'm happy he got nice parents! :)

well now i googled it and it looks like your crow is a Carrion crow and in Sweden we have hooded crows :)
@chv72
@chv72 7 лет назад
Peach is an American crow. They are black. In Europe the hooded crows are grey and black, in North America crows are black. Kullike is from Estonia and they have hooded crows there, just like in Sweden. Years ago, she rescued, raised and released two of them there! Thanks for watching!

Jonas Bergkvist He is absolutely a Crow. He's a North American Crow. Ravens and Crows over here are very similar in appearance to someone who doesn't know the differences. The ravens are much larger and have a very different vocal sound and a much larger beak. Crows look a bit different all around the world. But here they are all black and they are many.
