This past month, I started looking at 2018 M2s, then 2022 m240i, then 2020/2021 M2C, then a 2024 m240i RWD haha. Decided to go with the 2022 m240i and have been very happy. Grabbed one with low mileage and at a decent price with a couple years of warranty left. Coming from a 2016 340i Great review!

The new M2 is suited to a track so like 99% of people who don’t do track days I took delivery of my new M240 2 months ago. I love it. I use it as a daily and let loose a bit at the weekends. It’s playful yet mature kind of like myself. Very nice and honest review. Thanks 👌🇬🇧

Times are hard, the m240i makes significant sense, covid has hit hard, the Russia Ukrain war has worsened an already bad situation, most consumables are high, fuel, food, cost of living in general, which includes running costs of an M car, inflation has pushed prices for everything, thinking twice and re-prioritizing will lead you to the m240i which is an excellent decision, I wanted to buy the M3 but opted for this,instead, will come back later to the M3 when things cool down, for now, this is the best decision for a petrol head..

Great video! Last week I sold my M2 comp :( it was in mint condition with only 6K miles. I can relate to all your comments on the M2. Below 50mph It was a struggle to 'hang on' with it being so fidgety. I did look at some suspension options but that's just plaster on the issues. Selling my M2 though was purely for financial reasons. The money saved allows me to put my son through university debt free.

Having seen a few in person I think they have recaptured a bit of that m-lite reputation the older cars had. Slightly odd looking in places but overall a fast and reasonably practical package.

Have owned this car for 2 months and love it. Was on golf R waiting list and got sick of the waiting part of the list. M240 is a Totally versatile and capable ride. A blast on the blue ridge parkway and comfortable on the streets of NYC. Like the car so much I just put a deposit on a 2023 M2 but after watching this vid, now I question that decision. Nice to have options though. If you order one make sure you load it up with all the creature comforts. They are worth it. Mine was 2 months from deposit to my driveway. I hear it’s a 4 to 5 month wait now.

The M2 just looks stunning and feels special, I’d find it hard to change even if the new m240 is better in every other way.

Great summary guys. We love ours and think it’s the perfect daily. The G87 M2 is going to be a whole nother beast!

Having been in with Professor Verysideways when he is on it......the look on Dale's face....😂😂😂😂😂😂.....is typical of the first time.... Initially it's a little scary ....then you very soon realise what an amazing wheelman he is and how utterly competent the cars he drives are.....within a couple of mins you relax and enjoy it.....I spent an hour in with him from Thurso to JOG.....one of the best driving experiences I have had❤❤❤❤

When talking about an M2, I just don’t see how motorway MPG, how it handles potholes and how “comfy” it is is relevant. You don’t buy an M2 to be comfy. You buy it because it’s an angry an M car, it’s not designed to be faint hearted and comfy like the m240i. Im picking up my M2 at the end of the month and I don’t even know what MPG it does and frankly I don’t care either. It’s an M car. fuel Economy is irreverent, if I wanted fuel economy I’d get a 220D. Having just sold my F22 M240i it says a lot. At least that’s my opinion anyway. Interesting perspective from Both sides I just don’t see the relevance in some of the points that make this M240i superior… We will not even touch on the looks. I genuinely believe this is probably the worst looking BMW have made bar the i3 in a long long time. Very capable however, you can’t take that away from it.

Good talk, thanks. Most likely going to change my M135i to an M240i once the company lease runs out on the One. Not as flexible as the M135i in terms of baggage and passengers, but a lot more fun for sure.

Great video CMD- both you and Pete discuss some excellent points. I currently have an M2 Comp and it is my daily driver, I don't use it on the track and I don't have any future plans to. I am personally not too keen on the looks of the new M240i but having said that the new M2 Comp could have that huge grill at the front like the M3 and M4 Comp 😀. Personally for me if I was to move out of my M2 Comp the new M2 Comp would be the main contender. I can understand why Pete has moved though if the M240i is his daily driver and he does a lot of miles in it - the M2 Comp suspension is on the harsh side. I do less than 5k a year in mine so it's not that much of an issue for me.

It sounds better that I’ve expected. Have mine on order in the same color and can’t wait any longer. But the delivery will be hopefully in a few weeks. Is that the European Version with OPF?

I prefer the BMW M240i xDrive for driving just because i like how the AwD gives a much bigger contact patch to put all the power down safely on wet roads

Another cracking review CMD. If I didn't "need" my M340i Dad Wagon I would have been all over one of these to replace my F40 Mi135i. Great choice Pete, slightly jealous you have 2 though...

I still prefer the old M2C (without driving the new car). It’s obviously good but think it’s just the new shiny thing. M2C is a very special car.

Is it always beneficial to have wider tyres? I have the m135i with 225/40/18 tyres. Would there be an improvement with 235/35/19?

Decent review. From what I I have seen it’s a great car if used daily but doesn’t have the wow factor of an M2 :)

The truth is that since the death of the bespoke high revving N/A M engines the lines between a fast BMW and an M car have become blurred . The last M car I owned was the F80 M3 but as fast and accomplished as it was I missed my E92 M3 - the V8 felt special in a way the turbo 6 cylinders just don’t. I’ve not been tempted by a new BMW in years but this M240i has me thinking..

For a daily that does a few track days a year one of these would be great. Excellent base for tuning as well with the xdrive. New M2 is looking like being RWD only.

This car’s calm and comfortable demeanor during normal driving is deceptive. Put everything on Sport/Sport+ and start pushing it, and you’d be very surprised by how close it is to an M2 Comp. Extremely capable, and a great drive (especially with the B58 soundtrack). It’s really fun. Even the ZF8 works very well.

I could never make that trade, you got rid of 1 of the last great drivers cars. My m2c is my daily and love it. I do miss my sti that I got rid of but it is just a better car all around minus snow driving

For me who has no interest in track days this is all id need. Even looking at those 400hp RS3 or CLA45 cars this is a bargin, top spec this car with all the available options its still cheaper than a basic RS3 or CLA45.....BARGIN

Getting a 981 Cayman or 997 911 would be a better route I do wonder if you're not seeking a new car / on the PCP wheel of fortune. Maybe a trip to Snows BMW for a look.

Can you add a Twin turbocharger on the M240l?

Nice video mate. With way better audio than mine! What you using? Lots of people crying on this one and my video about comparing it to an M2. The trouble is it's very good and very comparable. If you want something special that's a bit more twitchy and worse on fuel, M2, for a mega daily that's fun and just as if not faster in the real world, M240i. 😎👌

I'd be willing to say that with the same tires as an m2, and a tune, this would be just as fast on a track.

Great review! I.m.o it's no doubt a great drivers car but it's looks completely fail it. Mostly because of the rear which is so weird looking only a mom could look at it. The rest of the car is only average looking. It's going to be really interesting seeing the performance of the new M2, however most likely it's visual appearance will also be a great dissappointent 😑

So whats your verdict mate? M2 comp or m40?

“M2 Competition overly lively” like it’s a bad thing? Seriously? To me this equals fun and I think comparing to a 240i is not something BMW would be thinking is a good idea imo. Much of the discussion was talking about how this handles better over bumps. I love how my M2C is harsh over bumps. That’s what it’s made to do. Probably best to compare the 240i to an Audi or Merc equivalent but definitely not a M2C. Appreciate the review all the same.

I saw the new m240i at a local car meet and I was disappointed to find that they drastically reduced visibility over the old 2 series. The entire point of me getting into bmws was the high roof line, & low belt line, and minimal A & C pillars for max view of what's around me. Not to mention the new 2 series looks like an 11 year old designed it, especially with those giant triangular front vents, and droopy rear tail lights with Volkswagen trunk. I'm sorry to say, despite how brilliant it drives. BMW missed the mark, design-wise.

I would be the same. I’ve came from a long line of AWD cars so it would have to be something a lot more special to pry me away from the M2 at the minute. Crazy how the M240 is AWD but by all accounts the M2 will be RWD only.

Great but it’s very expensive at 45K+ for such a small package.

Doesn't being so refined and lacking drama make it a boring drive? Seems like a great car but I really dislike how it looks much more than the controversial current m3 design.

I agree with both of you - if it were my money I'd still keep/wait for the M version. Yes it's super capable but if I bought one now, when the M version comes out I'd wish I would've waited.

The M2C is a faster and more 'special' car to drive, and without a doubt a LOT better looking. But, the M240i is easier to live with and the better daily driver. I'd be happy with either.

The new M240i looks boring and does not grab my attention . Im sure it drives great , it cant be that hard to design a car the looks good . M2 Comp has the sex appeal .

The newer 2 series weighs more than my F36 (4 Series)....BMW’s should be light and nimble, these G bodies are a bit bulky and heavy for me but to each their own.

Every portion of the new m240i just looks wrong! Really quite an awful looking thing 🤢

The new design of the new serie 2 is so outdated. It’s look like an Chinese car.

Handling wise, not a great deal of difference? One is rwd and the other is 4 four wheel drive! The handling dynamics are totally different. He talks rubbish.Perhaps he should have driving lessons from Chris Harris.
