Sorry, Peyton. Was this worse than Brady's playoff meltdown? Check out that episode and let us know • The worst Tom Brady pl...
Peyton Manning’s entire 2015 was pretty rough, but his week 10 performance against the Kansas City Chiefs easily takes the cake. This was a 7-1 Broncos team facing off against their 3-5 division rival, doing so at home, with a quarterback on the verge of surpassing Favre for multiple career records. While Peyton got one of those, his performance was so bad it kept him from ever picking up another regular-season win as the starter. Woof.
On top of that, do you remember when the name Brock Osweiler didn’t mean a thing to you? Things were so simple, but that changed thanks to Peyton’s performance. After completing nearly as many passes to Chiefs defenders (four) as he did to Broncos players (five) and not even reaching a combined 50 yards of offense across nine drives, his day was done. In his place came the eight-foot-tall “Twilight” impersonator at quarterback who ended up getting the rest of the starts during the regular season. Because of that, he did enough to convince the Houston Texans that he was a $70-million man, which is even wilder considering that they actually had a general manager at that point in time (again, feels so long ago).
Granted, Manning took back over for a struggling Osweiler in week 17, led them to a comeback win and the top seed in the AFC, then won a Super Bowl and retired on top. But this isn’t about that. This is about the time he went out and had the absolute worst game of his career, and it wasn’t even close.

All they had to do was keep him on the bench then. Broncos don't beat the Pats in the AFC Championship game if they had to carry Peyton Manning. The problem was Kubiak. He comes in and changes the offense for a 40 year old QB on his way out. Made no sense. And yeah, they relied on the defense. But the 2015 Colts would have been much better off of they just hired Wade Phillips to coach defense and let Manning run his own offense.

I was at that game. That night we went to John Elway's steakhouse. We were seated near the private rooms. Apparently, the Manning family reserved a room to celebrate his achievement. I saw Manning arrive late and leave 5 minutes later with his kid. He wasn't in a mood to celebrate. I felt so bad for him. To top it off, all these people wanted to get pictures and shake his hand. All he wanted to do was pick up his kid and put an end to a rough day.

I think it’s just the sarcasm that they do and how blunt the commentary can be, Broncos offense was on the legs of Anderson that year and in all honesty I remember being completely embarrassed watching this game. It just felt like the whole offense couldn’t get going, and it felt like Manning’s hip and ankles were bothering him so much that we NEEDED to sit him down to make the playoffs. Which is what happens but I don’t think we would’ve won the Super Bowl if Manning wasnt at the helm. His leadership and knowledge on the field is truly what made the broncos offense competitive even if he couldn’t throw the dimes he wanted to throw. Dude even ran for a 1st down a few times in the playoffs and I remember people criticized him the year before for not taking those same opportunities against the colts. If memory serves me right, during the regular season of 2014 when they faced the colts is when Manning got 2 weird injuries and didn’t tell the team until maybe 4 games later, one with his hip and another with his ankle which I think would take any QB out of their prime, and I think not telling the team only made it worse. If Manning had the same rules the QB’s have now, he would probably be undefeated with all the unnecessary hits he got after he threw the ball. Seriously watch some of those old mic ups of him on the broncos and see how hard he gets layed out within a full minute after he has thrown the ball.

Starting the 2010’s with two eleven win seasons followed by a 7-6 season but then going on to have 13, 11, and 12 win seasons respectively the next three years. Clearly a powerhouse is being established in the B1G only for MSU to follow up consistent excellence with a dismal 3-9 season followed by a 10-3 season, giving a glimpse of hope only to fully collapse into a hell of inefficient mediocrity with two 7-6 seasons. The loss of Pat Narduzzi as DC was a huge hit and poor recruiting lead tot he collapse of an elite program

To put Peyton Manning's final season into proper perspective, Tim Tebow and Geno Smith have never had a season that was even close to being as bad When they replaced Manning with Brock Osweiler due to injury the improvement was very significant So the idea that you need a superstar starting quarterback to win the Super Bowl is a total myth. You can with with the worst starting quarterback in the league. Or a mediocre starting quarterback who gets hot for 3-4 games.

And we won the SB...mainly cuz of a top 5 alltime defense(at least top 5 since i started watching the nfl in the early/mid 80s),& special teams that were good in the regular season-but downright phenomenal in the playoffs. But also cuz of Peytons leadership,& football savant like mind-getting em in the right play,& just the respect he still commanded.God knows his body was shot...& we had the worst oline to ever win a SB-which people forget. And while Kubiak must get credit for coaching the team to a title,& not fracturing into offense vs defense-changing the offense to something Peyton wasnt comfortable with-when he was almost totally physically washed-was stubborn,& often counter productive. Peyton had enough issues with his skills,& body eroding-now he had to retrain his mind,& muscle memory-from the way everything hed ever done.Aspects of it benefited the team eventually obviously,& in hindsight-but you dont make your HOF qb run an offense not suited to him. Obviously everything worked out-but it took a lot of luck,& Kubiak damn near was 1 of the goats of a failed season,& wasting an all time defense. But ya win the ring-all is forgiven,& mostly forgotten. But point is-It wasnt only Peyton. But as many turnovers,& bad spots that Broncos defense had to overcome cuz of an inept offense-that shows how great that defense was. Sometimes an offense just doesnt help its great defense out much...that offense actively sabotauged its defense-especially the 1st half of the regular season. The other great defenses in history didnt always have good offenses helping them....see the 2000 Ravens....but they didnt have to overcome turnover machine offenses like that 1. 2000 Ravens were happy to punt,& kick fgs often...2015 Broncos defense was often praying our offense would just manage to punt...or AT LEAST tackle them on the interception please-we had like 3 or 4 pick 6s against,& a few more to set the opposition up inside the red zone. Some very fortunate luck in 3 HUGE reg season games also. At KC early on-Jamal Charles fumbles with seconds left with KC just trying to run out the clock to OT. Incredibly-that was our last win over KC ANYWHERE-til the 2nd meeting in 2023-16 straight or something around that. This game featured in this video was the 1st KC win in this incredible,& awful losing streak we just snapped this year. And 2 late season, prime time home wins vs NE,& Cincy (the 2 teams we won a 3 way tiebreaker with for the 1 seed)with Brock.Incredible resilience to overcome double digit halftime defecits to win both games in OT...but also a lot of help from the football gods. The biggest being-down 21-7,early 4th,& punting...Pats return man fumbles...& Bellichek cuts him the next day.Lose any of the 3,& we not only lose the 1 seed-but fall to the WC,& that story likely has a much different ending. Our oline was bad enough at home...but on the road in Foxboro,Arrowhead or in Cincy for a playoff game-I shudder at the thought. And NE still had to lose to Miami,I think it was in week 17-for us to claim the 1 seed,& not have to go there for the AFC title game. It always takes luck to win titles-but that 1 took a lil more than usual-even with a historically great defense. To be fair-in the playoffs Broncos were just the better team in all 3 games-even though they all were close. But not really the case in those regular season comebacks. But homefield vs Pittsburgh (& injuries to them),& NE-definitely made life easier for us,& much tougher for the opposition to face our defense.
