Phantom Fury - Reveal Trailer 

They should release a joke trailer for a 'modernized' version of the game that includes loot boxes and no single player campaign.

2001, specifically.

Eh, 2000s chased modernity and would never have a game stylized to be pixelated.

A timeline were pursuit of better graphics and realism didn't eclipse all other aspects of gaming.

It's awesome how 3D Realms has been at work the last few years doing this whole retro thing, or getting companies to work on these projects and publishing them. These wouldn't be happening without their say so. Ion Fury, the Duke 3D World Tour expansion episode, Graven, Wrath, Cultic, now this game. Probably many more I'm unaware of. Yeah some of these games would have happened without their publishing (like Cultic), but it's a great help to any developer I'm sure if they do put your retro game under their name. It's like we are transported back to around the late 90's and continuing the release of games during that time period. Alternate timeline indeed where the 90's and 2000's never ended and these kind of games kept coming. I'd never have thought this would happen 10 years ago. To me these games have been the best things out in the last few years, right up there with the top, biggest games (like RE8, MW2, etc).

@@Cr1msnF4dger More like a Blade-alike though. The original character looked different. I still hate how we never saw more games in the SiN Emergence series. It was a pretty cool reboot type thing for an original that just deserved more videogames, much like Duke Nukem.

Kinda, but no. If your game have almost two decade old graphics then that's a problem. Unless you are going for a retro look. I don't see that here. I see a modern game with terrible, terrible graphics. But hey, I play EDF so I don't really care. But you have to take into account that today, at full 60$ price, without impressive graphics (among other things) a game usually is not going to sell a lot.

@@JesusProtects they are most definitely going for a retro look here. The industry and consumer's obsession with the highest fidelity in graphics is part of what is killing gaming. A game doesn't need the highest polygon count to be a great game. Look at breath of the wild. Cartoonish graphics but incredible game play and open world to explore. The borderlands series chose an interesting art direction and those games are incredible despite being panned for "bad graphics," when it released.

Art direction is meh... and the ugly character artwork... looks like these days shitty designs)..

@@JesusProtects The fact that the graphics look the way they do is actually what caught my interest before I even realized it was a sequel to Ion Fury. I may be in the minority, but I feel like I have been conditioned by modern AAA games to think that impressive graphics = bad gameplay, glitches, and predatory sales practices.

I'm really fucking hoping the delay on Aftershock was to add Duke to the story after Embracer acquired Gearbox. There's no way 3D Realms/Slipgate Ironworks/Voidpoint aren't chomping at the bits to use him.

@@JesusProtects I actually specified that its "retro fps GAMEPLAY", so it's irrelevant if the game counts as a "retro fps". But you're right. There's no reason why games with modern graphics can't have the same dynamic combat and weapon gameplay that the games from 2000-2004(?) had. As well as to focus on interactive level design and playable geometry, as opposed to sightseeing while walking through linear locations. Unless? The production cost for creating a game with modern high standards for models/textures/landscapes/lighting/reflections could mean that the developers need to have more manpower and spend much more time on these things, which means they have to focus on a wider audience to gain their money back. It can't have gameplay that not everyone would like, because it could end up with only a small niche audience. They would HAVE to water down these gameplay related things to target wider audience. Games that have unique artstyle are the exception, if that artstyle makes the game look good AND at the same time doesnt require crazy amounts of work put in to create every level/character/monster.

How does it look like Half Life? Why does almost everyone who see a sci fi boomer shooter keeps comparing these games with Half Life? Half Life is a peaceful and relaxing yet engaging shooter with revolutionary technology whereas this is a sci fi fps set in a more realistic world than Doom or Quake but still retains it's chaotic and brutal gameplay with insane guns that is more akin to well, you just said it Duke Nukem.

@@hihowrya370 Half life was called a road adventure action game. This looks similar to that style. Duke Nukem was a level to level type game that had no tangible road connecting the levels to one another. The graphic style here is more similar to duke nukem than half life but half life still shares this genre. Also half life was a massive product. It’s hard not to compare with that type of popularity.

Yea I'm starting to miss the old graphics because there actually more attention to detail and a focus on gameplay. A lot of the new games look good but it's crazy that certain assets can't be interacted with. Compare far cry 1 to the later ones, that's a really good example. Also gta4 vs GTA5
