Actually Atem's dub voice is cool. It makes him sound epic. It's so deep and stately. Especially the way he speaks. One of my favorite lines "We have arrived at the heart of evil".
I kmow i can impersonate atem or yugioh characters it is epic indeed and that “we arrived at the heart of evil was great and funny and kaiba goes do u always have to be so dramatic when they face dartz
"Are you referring to the Three Egyptian Gods that guards the Pharaoh's tomb?" No man, he's referring to the Three Gods of Pizza. The Golden Wheat of the Doughy Base, The Blood Red Tomato Vines of The Rich Marinara Sauce and the Holy Dairy Cow of the Strong Mozzarella Cheese, OF COURSE HE'S REFERRING THE THREE EGYPTIAN GODS THAT GUARDS THE PHARAOH'S TOMB!!!!!!
Obelisk gave me chills when Atem summoned it here. It's a strange monster because usually the side of good usually doesn't have a being that epitomizes darkness. But hell, Obelisk looks baller as hell in this time period (aka: his head looks different)
Obelisk isn't really a dark Monster, though. Yeah, he's big and mean and will turn your face into salsa if you give him a reason to, but that's because he's pretty much the Egyptian god of war. It's an ugly, violent job, but somebody's got to do it.
Especially that epic duel between kiaba and yugi in the battle city semi finals. Yugi hit his a** with a defusion, dark paladin got more attack points then finished kiaba with a diffusion wave motion. Sh*t was CRAZY
"only the legendary king will know the names of the Egyptian god monsters" Atem: knows all their names already Aknamkanon: "awaken mighty Obelisk" ....... ??? (insert confused black guy ??? meme here)
+Nail iciS Obviously, they're wrong about who the 'Legendary King' is: Aknamkanon knows the names via being the subject of the prophecy, Atem knows the names via being revived in the 21st century. Alternately and even more simply, Atem knows the full names of the creatures (Aknamkanon says 'Obelisk', Atem says 'Obelisk the Tormentor'), whereas the average citizen only know parts of the names.
Xadhoom Xado the first part can't be true. if ONLY the "Legendary King" can know their names, then it would be impossible for both Atem and Aknamkanon to know their names. however, i don't know if Akamkanon knows their names in the manga or japanese anime so maybe this is just a dub error.
Nail iciS To reiterate: Aknamkanon would, under that piece of guess-work, be the legendary king in the prophecy said to know their names. Atem would 'cheat' his way around the prophecy via his time in the twenty-first century letting him know their names. The others (Yugi, Joey, Tea, Tristan, Kaiba) also knows the names of the EGC in spite of only one among them having shown spiritual ties to ancient egypt.
Xadhoom Xado ok so you think that the prophecy was just wrong? i can't really argue with that, i completely disagree... when has a prophecy in YuGiOh ever been wrong? the whole point of bringing it up was to emphasize Atem's role as the "chosen one"
Nail iciS Well, not precisely wrong, but not necessarily about referring to Atem. The implicit point of the prophecy was that the Pharaoh, as a demi-god, would know the names of the God Monsters purely by being the Pharaoh. Atem knowing their names has nothing to do with him being a kind of Chosen One, anymore than Tristan or Mokuba knowing their names makes them the chosen king in the prophecy. By the 21st century, the names are common knowledge due to Battle City, which Atem brought back with him. Sure, strictly speaking, he *does* fulfill the 'knows the names of the gods = the foretold Pharaoh' definition of it, so he could very well be the subject of it. My issue in believing he is, is that it is very possible for an average joe who knows the name of the creatures and have a Duel Disk/DiaDhank to summon an Egyptian God (although for the unworthy, such is exceedingly dangerous). If Tea or Tristan were willing to get punished for it, they could pull it off. Of course, all that presumes that it is anything than a dub-induced edit, or that (as I mentioned) the 'Obelisk' part of the name isn't common knowledge (so one would have to know the full 'Obelisk the Tormentor' to summon it) among the egyptian people.
This was uploaded in 2005, making it one of the oldest videos on RU-vid. The upload date us a month after the original airdate mesning this is probably a vhs recording of the first time this aired on Saturday morning television. What a piece if history!
my thoughts about the prophecy... i think its refering to living Kings aka Atem. Aknamkanon probably knew the name of obelisk because of the ties with the puzzle and only learned the names when he died.
Wow. This was uploaded a few months prior to the finale airing in the states. This was before yugioh the abridged series. This was when jinzo was still tier. Pot of greed was still limited and not forbidden. Upperdeck and Konami were still working together.
Everyone asks, "How come Atem's father call forth Obelisk if only the legendary king knows the name of the three Gods?" To you all, I have to say this. If you're a die hard Yugioh fan, you'll know plain and simple. This is all in Atem's mind. This is a game he is playing against Bakura's evil spirit. This all takes place in the last season of the first series of Yugioh. Atem must beat Bakura in a board game that represents the past and has to do so before Zorc The Dark Lord destroys all of Egypt. He needs to figure out his name as well because that is the only way to beat Zorc, bring back the light, and give the Gods their divine powers. It's all clearer when you watch Season 5 and piece everything together.
There is still a plausible explanation for how Akhenamkhanen could still know, on the chance this is a genuine memory and Atem isn't misremembering. It's possible they meant that it would be a _living_ pharaoh who is to know the names. Akhenamkhanen is deceased as this point, which could confer to him that knowledge he did not possess in his living. It could even be a self-fulfilling prophecy - that the reason Atem is to know their names in his living is precisely because he communed with the dead who know.
Apart from understanding better, one very strong point in the dub is the perfect music it has at some points (like here!)! Besides in the original you'd miss this awesome voice of Bakura!:)
@@rorymayo3332 Diabound didnt overpower Obelisk at all tho he only matched it to the point Bakura could escape Bakura says as much in the episode after this
@@rorymayo3332 that happened after and it was because Mahad put his all into the Dark magician including his life force to destroy diabound, to the point he merged with the creature. In the end it was not enough to destroy it tho because of the power Diabound had absorbed. At this point Diabound has fought Slifer with Atem being very weak because his puzzle was stolen. But the whole thing is he was not able too
maybe i am missing something here, but Diabound shooting a Blue Eyes's "White Lightning" attack at Obelisk the Tormentor should result in "Fist of Fury/Fate" going right through the attack and destroying Diabound........its a much stronger attack
From what I remember Diabound had 1000 atk during Kaiba's duel with Bakura. By using the power of White Lightning it gave Diabound a 3000k buff to match Obelisk during the Shadow RPG. In one of the flashbacks we see during season 4 which projects Atem's original life not the memory world, Obelisk does end up beating Diabound in the first encounter.
i think in the ancient times , it was just about the strength of the beast simply but that strength wasn't like measurable as it is with the duel monster game
@lovetoact Fist of Fate is when you sacrifice 2 monsters to activate the "Raigeki + 4000 direct damage" effect. And Fist of Furry is when you attack normal (I think.)
I wish they would've used the manga version. How Atem first summoned Ra but Bakura used some time travel thing and stop it. Atem THEN summoned Obelisk.
Diabound's effect makes it gain 600 when it attacks. It has 1800 normally. It battles BEWD going up to 2400. It the gained BEWD's power so lets say that adds half of BE atk as that's a common enough version of the effect. That makes it 3900. Then 600 more when it battles obelisk to reach 4500
Fun fact, in their original encounter (5000 years or 3000 for sub) Obelisk smacked the shit out of Diabound and nearly destroyed him but Bakura made some sorta escape (so I read anyway)
''the scription state that only the chosen king will know the names of these legendary monsters, but wait! does this mean, you are the chosen king in the prophecy?''
Why because you can't have a OTK? My expectations of a legal Obelisk have been met. I didn't expect him to be able to attack after his effect or deal 4000 dmg. That's just overpowering.
This video is 12 years old why is this video showing up now Also i never get tired of that fucking music that plays during the summoning of an Egyptian god
