You Sir just saved me $200! I am a 25 year old woman and would have never believed that I can repair my electric toothbrush myself. But with your guidance I made it. Thank you so so much!!

There is a lot of different Sonicare models but the nice thing is that they use the same drive mechanismus. So even with cheap brush you get the same cleaning action.

Thank you very much for this! My Sonicare was exhibiting the same issues, probably the result of dropping it... previously Philips replaced it under warranty but several years later it happened again out of warranty, your video was the most helpful resource I found on how to repair it. A few notes that might help others: - I couldn't find anything plastic to remove the bottom cap so I used a flat head screwdriver, it made a few small indents on the cap but worked OK. Prising this bit off is quite hard so keep at it, you can apply quite a lot of pressure with the adjustable wrench to get a decent amount of opening. - I found it really tricky to work out how to open the plastic grips that hold the internals in, none of the descriptions online were that helpful. The trick to know is that these plastic catches can be pulled away from the outer case towards the internals. I found using a flat head screwdriver against the bottom of the catch (which you can see on the left and right of the internals if you look inside with a torch), nudging it towards the internals until it pops out worked best. It's still a bit fiddly though. Just keep in mind you want to pull the catches "inwards" (towards the internals) until they disconnect from the outer casing. - I managed to snap one of the plastic teeth that holds the circuit board of the bottom bit on to the top bit, so it wouldn't snap back into place properly. I ended up using Blutack to stick it in place. The correct alignment of the circuit board is so that you can see only the top "hole" on the metal frame underneath, the two T shaped bits should be totally covered as this is where it slides on. If you do the same and get the alignment wrong, it won't work when you put it back together as the switch is misaligned. - My magnets were stuck together when I opened it. You need to prise them apart with a flat head screwdriver. It feels hard to do because they are magnetically attracted but you can do it with a bit of force! - The first time I fixed it, I used two bits of thin plastic from some packaging to space out the magnets. This worked quite well, but I could still feel the handle itself vibrating somewhat and it didn't feel quite as powerful as I remember it originally being. - I also noticed that the seal was totally rotted away, which had caused a bit of damage already in that a couple of the "mode" lights don't work any more due to corrosion, so I put it back together, used a rubber band tightly wrapped around the shaft as a temporary seal, and ordered a new seal from eBay. You want a mk2 seal. Search for something like "PHILIPS SONICARE WATERPROOF shaft seal rings MK2 HX6730 HX6511 SPARE REPAIR UK" - The second time I fixed it, I used three bits of the thin plastic to space it out. This works much better. - The second time, I also managed to snap the thin wires connecting the two parts :( Be careful with these as they are only soldered on and if you move them too much, they'll snap. I was able to solder them back on without too much trouble (and I'm rubbish at soldering), so don't worry too much if this happens, but do try to avoid it! Anyway, my Sonicare is back to full health and all sealed up now, and if I drop it again, I'll know what to do. Thanks for the video and for saving me £100!

Good video. As soon as you moved beyond the obvious screw at the top (which everyone immediately gravitates to as if they were first one to see it and just possibly found a cure for cancer; and which has never worked for me, btw), I knew you had some worthwhile insight. Your fix worked for me and now my toothbrush is quiet again. Thank you!

I discovered that if you have a rubber tip air gun nozzle, you can blow compressed air in the center hole to get it open. Depending how good of seal you have you wont need to use channel locks. I usually can get it to pop right off. It takes all the anxiety away from potentially damaging the the toothbrush. I hope this helps. Your videos are the best, extremely informative and in depth. Your the only one I've found putting out this level of content. Thank you for all your hard work and keep it coming. You helped me fix my Sonicare in less then a half-hour and saved me a lot of money in the process.
@letsfixitgarage

I saw this method but havent tried it yet as in the video that I saw they cut away the rubber sealing. If it's water damaged then it's no problem but if you have a good seal and fix is just retighten a screew or make space for electromagnet it seemed to be wasteful.. but it is very efficient and as you said no anxiety to break something! Thanks for sharing and a good word! I try to make videos and channel that I look for, efficient and right to the solution :) altough these kind of videos come in handy only once, when they break, so hope that this toothbrush will remain popular in the world :D

Thank you, man. I've saved me from ditching a perfectly repairable toothbrush. One remark - I'd put threadlocker not only to the threads but also between the screw head and the metal casing to prevent the electromagnet slipping. In fact I did so when fixing my toothbrush.
@letsfixitgarage
@letsfixitgarage 3 года назад
Yes threadlock doesn't hurt, as we can't get the screw tightening forces that the manufacturer uses.. I do believe that space between magnets and screw tightening force is a calculated value at the manufacturer Hause that saves from further damage.. but if we don't have it adding the threadlock helps to have it opened one more time..

If you have thin wires for toothbrush head sensor you need to desolder them. It is possible to separate the two parts without desolderong but then you be very careful and have some experience for first time I would suggest to desolder the wires first.

I followed these instructions and yes, it totally worked! I would like to point out that during the part where he removes the back top cover hiding the screw, you can actually just pull the battery pack backwards and the cap will slide out from its slots. This way you won't have to pry it off and cause possible damage. Also, for the spacer I used a zip tie that was about 1mm thick. I didn't have superglue so I gave myself more room knowing that eventually the coil pack will slip upwards regardless. Maybe I'll have some superglue ready for next time. But I'm DEFINITELY not buying another Sonicare in the future when I can just FIX IT!
@letsfixitgarage
@letsfixitgarage 2 года назад
It's a thing of luck sometimes the battery pack slides off very easy sometimes you need to push quite strong to take it apart.. as for glue not sure if I would recommend this approach better use screw tightening liquid.. it's designed for exactly this task ;) and yes it's a good feeling when you can repair device that you own, that's why I really hope that right to repair will be a thing in future.. ;)

My toothbrush had lost a significant amount of brushing power. Adjusting the coil-magnet gap is what mine needed. A strip cut off an old credit card worked good for me. The front end of the plastic circuit board holder took some wiggling to get it disconnected from the metal frame. Pulling it fully back and wiggling it left and right finally got the plastic t into the metal slot. Thanks!

just received a new motor that i got off of ebay. The motor shaft was broken in my sonicare dimondclean. Put the new motor in and soldered up the battery contacts and it works perfectly. $30 and I have a new toothbrush. Thanks for your great tutorial.

Thanks for your videos! I just fixed my Prestige 9900 with the help of your instructions. I dropped it on the floor a few times and the head no longer vibrated at full power. The gap around the magnet was the solution and it works again at full power.

Happy to hear that :) these brushes are really good engineered for repairability hopefully with these videos we can get their reliability up where it should be :) and not as popular myths state that they have preprogrammed obsolescence after 2 years..

Cruising the comments, it seems everyone managed to fix a toothbrush with your help. Assuming that trend continues through all 578 comments, you have saved huge amounts of energy from processing, manufacturing and retail. Kudos. Phillips needs to take note of this design flaw & underwrite your channel. They could get great PR out of your work, touting the repairability of their products.......

thanks for good word :) I wrote to Philips with similar suggestion, but as always, it seams I haven't reached the right person, as there was no response to my suggestion.. and I think in their statistics in selling millions, 1000 repaired ones is insignificant :/ so it's only personal motivation of spreading the information and keeping any possible electric device from landfill.. additionally Philips is improving their design, i have an idea of making video of different models and explaining how they have developed in time..

Yes can't thank you enough, ty ty. I had the most problems @4:42. It was really stuck. Didn't know it could slide for a while when I had the spring out which really help it loosened.

Thank you! You saved me $300 dollars. Got it apart with hardly a scratch. I found that spraying a bit of Armor All into the gaps when squeezing the housing makes that O-ring release easier.

Etan, I have the same problem. If the stem/head is pressed slightly forward, the motor still runs but no vibration. By pressing slightly the stem/head to the left, right, or backwards it vibrates agains. What did you do to fix it?
@letsfixitgarage
@letsfixitgarage 3 года назад
You will need to take it apart and then examine a screw at the stem/head bottom. Sometimes it's lose or sometimes this steam/head part can be broken I show how it looks in my other videos. either way you will find your answer after taking it apart.

Thank you for the video! To make it easier to remove the cover and disassemble, I recommend warming up the case with hot water, the plate becomes softer
