Author R. Scott Bakker, in a group discussion, discusses the writing approach that he loves vs. the approach that makes the series accessible to a general audience, writing prequels and the value they might give, or take away, from the existing series and what some of the letters he gets are about. "It's pure wanking at that point." "Hey Guys You Can Wind Down the Simulation Now.”

It might not reach everyone during our lifetime, but with time it will become one of the greats and studied worldwide. I have no doubt!

Bakker, brother, please write another. Or eight. I’m desperate here.

Bakker is a super interesting guy. We worship nerds like physicists but they all parrot the other physicist. Writers like Bakker are super interesting and are great to listen to. He should appear on Joe Rogan

As well as being a great prose-smith, Bakker is a handsome dude. He should be more known me thinks!

The books did succeed in reaching across "tribes" at least a little. I had little to no interest in history, personally, and because of the series I dove into the crusades and never stopped. Many other friends who read the books got into theory of mind, theology, and other philosophy because of the books. Almost no other fantasy series has prompted such exploration. I think the biggest uphill battle for writers is attention span - brains are so full of garbage that they need simple, known structures to fit any new information around. I'll just start telling people there's a love triangle in the books, haha.

As much as I love Bakker, I feel I have wasted 20 mins of my life watching this. Navel gazing to the nth degree, the only plus I take from this, is the guy is still alive, so we can hope. Just get on, and write the No God for crying out load.

There may not be as many of us as you'd like, but the people you have reached were profoundly affected by these novels. Currently studying philosophy because of the interest these sparked in me.
