Thank you so much for posting these. I was always sad I couldn't make the trip North to attend this. It would've been really cool to meet Bakker along with all of these other fans and geek out over the series. This is greatly appreciated!

Counterpoint, none of my friends will talk to me about R. Scott Bakker books, while AI will gladly discuss the books. AI wins out.

As I was watching this, my favorite author discussing AI, I was invited to a new AI Development Slack channel at work. Coincidence? Is there such a thing?

The guys leading AI research at the major AI companies estimate AGI in 5-15 years. If true, this scenario is closer to the Skynet projections than it is to the semantic apocalypse. There just isn't likely to be much time for Bakker's predicted disaster to play out. If AI advances were slower, Bakker's fears would probably be realized. Instead, we face human extinction in ~10 years. One scenario I never believed was Kurzweil's Panglossian dream, as laid out in The Singularity is Near--a clever, fascinating book whose core thesis of benign machinic superintelligence was perfectly insane.

Its funny this video came up cause my regular bank there this person that pushes me to use the machine or " you can fo that online " all the time and some times for certain issues i like an in person teller . Now as i go to the bank there are fewer and fewer employess there . They dont even understand that there activly promoting their not being needed.

He is alive and well but focused elsewhere for now. When the time is right he'll return to writing. What that will look like I doubt even he knows at the moment. Thank you! ❤
