Thank you so much. I'm 13 months post break, 6 months post second surgery. My insurance denied PT and my ankle hasn't improved much as far as walking goes, but these exercises are making a pretty drastic difference after just a week.
Thanks for these exercises! After 8 weeks my cast came off. I will be able to start with your first exercises before I'll see my physiotherapist. It feels daunting to start as everything is still sore. What I like about your exercises is that they start at the very beginning of the process 👍🏻
Fantastic video. Suffered a Weber C fracture 3 weeks ago and was told that here in Edinburgh they don't give physio post fracture any more. These exercises look great for my rehab. Thanks so much 👍
Western Trust, you are truly a blessing! The exercises you provided in this video has assisted me while I await an opening to come available for physical therapy to begin. My ankle is feeling very strong with your instructions. As per my orthopedic doctor, if I continue make the progress I'm making with utilizing your exercises, I may be able to pass on physical therapy if an opening doesn't come up soon. Thank you Western Trust, keep making these much needed videos!
Despite an open fracture, I stubbornly refused to pay for the physical therapy in the US. Don’t have the money. Already doing these exercises, appreciate the confirmation!
I’m on day 50 post orthoscopic ankle surgery. Age: 22, male Injury: February 2022 Surgery: Aug 31st 2022 I sprained my ankle in the worst possible way you can. Ligament damage, cartilage damage, post traumatic arthritis, and a dip in my bone. This is how my recovery has been looking so far. 0-2 weeks: completely bed ridden, lots of pain. Day 10: so much pain, my lowest point, I lost all hope. Day 25: minimal pain sitting or resting, foot could only bear 40-70lb Day 26: first time standing up, couldn’t move or anything, just standing in place. Day 29: foot bearing 93 pounds max Day 34: 100 pounds max Day 35: beginning walking with crutches instead of hoping. Day 46: 118 pounds max. Day 48: alcohol suppressed my pain to a point where I could walk without any issues. Day 50: could walk with slight pain, able to stand on leg (180lb) but no stability. Recovery is strange, especially if you haven’t been through any or haven’t seen someone else go through it. There is periods of time where it feels like over a week has past and you have had 0 progress, then there’s times where over a few days it seems like there’s been a miracle. Patience is virtue. During the first week I iced and elevated a lot. After that I gradually became lazy and didn’t do much. I just didn’t push it too much. I started going out occasionally after 2 weeks. Started doing exercise for like 5-10 mins a day after day 40.
@@ryvenmasardo5450 don’t worry about it. By day 56 I was able to walk short distance, moved down to 1 crutch. Around day 63 I ditched my crutches. Obviously I can’t walk super long distances. Now it’s day 69. I went on a walk today, my pain is very minimal. If I use my foot a lot throughout the day, I’ll definitely feel a little discomfort but I must say I’m not very restricted anymore. I can walk at a fast pace, I can drive, so all things considered, life’s good. You’ll get there too don’t worry.
@@XxdigitalSNIPERZxX hoping you see this because I pretty much have the same injury! Question: I am on Day 16 post surgery. I got my cast off and am in a boot. My ankle is very swollen and I have tingling and almost like shooting electric pains. Did you experience any of this?
@@stephaniejackson5092 that’s completely normal, listen you will come to this conclusion on your own, but save your time, make your number one priority to go to physio, it’s expensive but essential. Nothing in life is worth it if you have to suffer from your injury forever. It’s been 10 months for me, I still limp, I still feel pain, I just went to my 1st physio session today, 10 months after my injury. Don’t do what I did, I’m telling you, the only thing that matters in your life right now, is to recover your ankle, go to physio within 2 months you’ll be brand new. I know it’s expensive but it’s priceless, because again you can have everything in the world but if you don’t take care of your injury, it’s all worthless. Take the 2 months, focus intensely, and leave this injury in the past. If you need some stretches and exercises let me know. I will help you.
Thank you I feel less stiff already my dr told me I don't need the boot anymore so im trying to get my groove back it just feels weird when you don't use your foot for so long.
@@booksbycourts try to do the alphabet with your toes. Move your foot in circles clock wise and anti clockwise. If you don’t have already get an iso band it really helps losing everything up. Another one is to get a big thin towel lye it out flat and try toe scrumple it up without moving your foot repeat about 40-50 times the more the better. Try weight shifting (swaying side to side slowly ) then lift you good foots heel of the ground when your ready proceed to lifting the toes to you can you a bench for support at the start but don’t put the weight on the bench it’s only there for support.
I had surgery October 1 this year 2021 Im going to see my doctor November 16 he said if the x-rays look good maybe I can start walking with the boot this exercise look good I’m gonna try, my ankle it’s very stiff so I think it’s going to help I’m scared to feel pain but I’m going to try.thank you so much for this video can I help a lot of people who pass for this stress. God bless you and God bless all the people they have surgery like me good luck everybody . Let’s be positive god blessed everyone 🙏
Thanks for the video, it made a lot of sense to me and most importantly I am following your advice with respects to the exercises. Though we all have a unique situation, in terms of fracture and recovery, I would like to know if you can guide me in terms of what I can do; your advice in turn may help countless people. I had a motorcycle accident in 2020 where my ankle bone (medial malleolus) came out completely (particles of asphalt got encrusted in parts of the cartilage) and the fibula broke. Right now, I'm unable to completely flex my left foot, since therapy in the country is not as good as in the States. I would love to recover completely, though I know it is a process, but it's been three years and I am now leaving the cane at home. I was very athletic during my years, and I still love playing basketball and other sports. Is there anything I can do to fully recover the flexibility and full movement of the ankle?
What if u still feel pain in outer knuckle (idk the actual name) that’s shoots down towards to toes? I’m fully healed and there is nothing else wrong but I still cant put pressure on It without pain
@@Mindexpansion. Year later, I just kept on trying and it GRADUALLY loosened up even though the first several months it was just rock solid, took ages but now it’s almost normal. There were times it seemed to go backward and recently I had a big leap forward into flexibility. It takes forever so it seems, but keep moving as much as you can and it will get better. That’s my experience so far.
thanks for this video. I am in a 3rd world country we couldn't afford the surgery for my broken ankle . it was broken in 3 places now i am out of the cast and therapy is expensive so i thank you for this video. I tried but my ankle get swollen even if i tried to move mu toes up and down.
Oh that’s really sad, I have broken my foot in three places and the pain is terrible so I know how you feel. I believe there are many experts on RU-vid to help you out but I would say take your time❤️🇬🇧
My fracture was recent. Have had no surgery but wearing air boot. Ankle healing but slowly i was told. Still walking like i have a club foot 🙁 When i turn foot a certain way, feels like something shifts on the ankle. Its weird. So cautious about every move. This is just awful
After how many days I can walk naturally causing my left leg ankle surgery. I am 53 year old man, my body weight is 70 kg.It is too much than the my height.🙏🙏
12 weeks post surgery on comminuted calcaneus fracture. Very painful to bear weight. It feels like distinct pressure points are hurting. I'm hoping with proper PT that this gets better and back to normal over time. Lots of physio to go.
@@gaborszenteszki4500 I'm doing much better. I work full time. I actively bicycle. I tried cross country sking and ice skating early of 2023, but both were too painful and I need much more strengthening. I think I'm as good as I can be at this point. I could concentrate on more stretching and strengthening
I can do most of these but rotating my foot, or the top of my foot/ankle when I try walking is still quite painfull. I went from non weight bearing to "pick up your bed and walk" with only a thin ankle brace. Is it supposed to be painful enough that I keep limping? My Dr. won't let me use my crutches anymore after 4 weeks without the boot, but after I tried walking from the car to the front of the store I ended up taking pain killers. The first week I was just getting my foot on the floor without a pain shooting up my heel and leg. So I've only really been walking 3 weeks. I also have osteoperosis. Being in America and having so many medical bills, I he wants me to go to PT three times a week, but I cannnot afford it - he doesn't get that.
Does anyone else feel like surgery went wrong? 😭 I'm afraid because I read lots of comments, but no one mentioned trying to stand up, but one side feel longer than the other. Like I try to stand still normal, but the outer side of my foot is the only one touching the ground, but the inner part is not. And the only way for my whole foot to touch the ground is if I open legs like 30 degrees 😢
Hello, Had an ankle fracture in start of Feb 2023. Traction Treatment (as tibia was dislocated like 3-4mm) started after 6th of feb (delayed) due to international travel. Starting to stand with crutches on 3rd of March Still swelling and pain while putting more weight As of today now i can walk but still lil swelling and pain lil lil near ankle area Walking using stick Its difficult to move foot in upward direction not fully mobile yet. How much more time it takes to completely heal? And what treatment i should take to make my muscles soft as the top part is still stiff
Have you make exercises? I am 60 day from fibula ankle fracture and now I am walking like a penguin, without crutches at home. I am practising these type of exercises every day at home.
@@teodoryordanov234 its very difficult for me to move my foot in upward direction. Just move lil bit. There is a fracture in ankle inner side but i am also experiencing pain after walk on the outer side as well.
My doctor is telling me not to push it too much but I feel like if I wait I’ll miss my opportunity to get max range of motion back. There is no way I can do the one foot heel lift I tried lol.
Cbd oil might help. What's causing the pain? Did you have a break? I've just had my boot off yesterday. Lost a lot of muscle mass in my calf painful to walk. My follow up appointment is over the phone 🙈 so I decided to look up some physiotherapy stuff to see if it will help get me walking again. At the moment feel wobbly and not much range of motion.
