It's really funny what will suddenly give you a burst of nostalgia. The Heather one looks identical to pictures I've seen of my mom growing up in the 80s in Syria
How is that if you have never lived in the '80s? Just curious and I cherish curious sentiment ❤️ out of the '80s as I was a child back then but it was all like the video describes a lot of neon lights, bubbly colors and fine music 💯
As a man that lived in high school in the 80’s, yes, I said lived, I can confirm that this was the reality of the time! Dam I miss those days when there was nothing that was monotonous. 😮😢😅
You make me want to have an 80s party right this very second! We have an 80s club in Fort worth with 80s music videos playing and Lava lamps everywhere and it's yhe best!
Are you? That’s pretty cool. I was wondering if all this was just the way movies portrayed the 80s cause when I look back at high school videos they aren’t wearing these outfits at all. And the actual movies in the 80s I don’t see this either
Since you're historian, then i'm very curious how you think about todays reflection on the use of neon/fluro trend in *mostly* everyday fashion in the 80s. Because media and society nowadays depicts/looks back at it as neon fluro was *everywhere all decade long, in every occassion* . Wich imo wasn't that way. But i can not recall it perfectly, also because my memory for these culture things runs roughly from like '85. I'm under the impression that neon was becoming really really mainstream at the end of the 80s, and beginning of the 90s. Wich brings me to the second aspect, the occurence of a thing called "neighties". A kind of liminal period in wich some things could be viewed as interchangeble. Someone in an editorial piece somewhere speaks of the period '88-'93. The thing is he mentioned as kind of common denominator is the usage of dark neon (if there is thing like the neighties, wich i do believe, i don't agree on the right side year though, this should be more '91 imo. Kind of after the introduction of that big surge of groundbreaking pop albums of the fall of '91, things imo changed rapidly, among that the decrease of neon/fluro in clothing. Wich i roughly base on studying this time period lately, but also trying to recall from my own experience. Heavy big neons were disappearing after '91 imo). Again, i would like to hear your opinion on all of this.
I was in high school in the 80's and in also work in the fashion industry (Norma Kamali), this is not accurate. I truly doubt you're a professional historian in both music and fashion.
God thank you for class picture day and healing and mending our not going to do it days, because yes you’re missing. Also LORD for give us for our vanity and thank you for all the smiles. In Jesus name amen 🙏
Should have covered your tattoo for it to be more authentic. High School girls didn’t really have tats back then, neither did guys really. It was a vets, bikers and gang thing in those days.
My Mom actually Graduated in ‘83 and I graduated last year In ‘23 we actually graduated 41 years apart (My Mom is a 1965 baby in December and I’m a 2004 baby same month but I’m the 2nd of December and she’s the 25th of December so we’re 23 days apart yes she had me when she was Almost 39 years old)
I have questions about 80s fashion. And hope that someone older than i am can recall these thing (for Europe, since i live in Europe). My story/question below is also wrapped in a comment elsewhere in the comment section. As an answer for someone who dubs him/herself as an fashion historian. Anyway, here we go. For those who have lived long enough to tell: i am very curious how you think about todays reflection on the use of neon/fluro trend in *mostly* everyday fashion in the 80s. Because media and society nowadays depicts/looks back at it as neon fluro was *everywhere all decade long, in every occassion* . Wich imo wasn't that way.
