＜Summary＞
Written by Domoto Masaki (1933-2019)
Bound to live as a frog in this pond till the end of the world,
I can receive human words only once every thousand years.
Except for that, I can just croak my sad lament at what I have done,
crying in regret and grief.
The woman turned into a brilliant goddess, and we into hideous frogs.
A maiden visits the island of Delos after a revelation from the gods.
As she stops to drink the clear water from a pond, she meets a man whose words sound
neither like humans’ nor beasts’.
The reason derives from an incident a long time ago. A beautiful woman visited this pond.
The villagers approached her with wicked intentions and were rejected. In revenge, the
villagers paddled into the pond and muddied the water, preventing the woman from
drinking.
The woman prayed in anger to Zeus, who turned the men of the village into unsightly frogs.
The man the maiden encounters is one of those who were transformed into frogs.
His incomprehensible words indicate the men’s fate to fall into eternal suffering.
This is a new piece of Noh created by Domoto Masaki, based on Greek mythology.

＜あらすじ＞
堂本正樹（1933-2019） 作
世の終わりまで この池の蛙となって
千年に一度 人の言葉を授かる外
我がなせし業を 鳴き声にて
悔み嘆けよと 叫ぶと同じく
女は輝く女神と 我らは醜き蛙と変じたりけり
神の示しにより、デイロスの浮島を訪れた巫女。
清水を飲もうと立ち寄った沼で出会った男は、人とも獣ともつかぬ言葉を話す。
それは昔、この沼を訪れた美しい女に、里人たちはよこしまな想いを持ったが拒まれた腹いせに、女が飲もうとした水を、池に入り掻き濁して妨害をした。
女は憤り、ゼウスに祈り、男どもを醜き蛙に変身させた。
男はその変身させられた蛙である。
言葉が通じないという、永劫の苦しみに陥った男の行末とは……。
ギリシャ神話から創り上げた堂本正樹の新作能。
