Already knew about all of this, but you did a very good job explaining the process and your explanation is one of the most complete. I would love to see videos on how you pack and how to avoid tongue bite. Look forward to any new videos.
“This is the bowl of the pipe, it’s called the bowl because, well it looks like a bowl” Yeah cheers for that mate thought they called it a bowl for the shits and giggles
Good tips and a great video. The best advise I received after learning to use a tamper was to tamp LESS. I see some YT pipe presenters who tamp after every other puff, and they are the same guys who have to relight frequently. Well done.
Kinda glad I watched this. Explained so much and helped me make my own tool out of a little stick I fire hardened and a tack on one end to press it down
Cool video. One of my friends (22 years old) smokes pipe like a boss and I let him smoke in my room when he is over. I love the smell of good pipe tobacco. The only thing superior to it is a water pipe, but that is somewhat harder to carry in your coat pocket.
I really miss those times when every family had to make reserves of food, tobacco, sugar, salt, beer and beef jerky for the winter, and you remind me of those times, thanks man. wow it sounds kind of weird lol
Actually, having watched your video on how to properly pack a pipe (with the little story about shaking the 3 hands) I've never really had a problem keeping my pipe comfortably lit from the first light. I've never found the need to use the tamper or the aerator, except for the odd light that just doesn't take properly. Regardless, I thank you for your advice.
hello daniel. what kind of pipe are you using? what kind of pipe tobacco are you using? aromatic? virginia? depending on type of tobacco, pipe users will get "tongue bite". give it few days for your tongue to heal up and i recommend trying different blend. For me, W.O.Larsen Signature Pipe Tobacco has been great! if you're new pipe user, pack about 1/2 bowl @ get used to it before going full bowl. it's better for your tongue & pipe to get used to using your pipe ^_^
jeff, im glad to see ou breaking out a pipe. i have my grandfathers pipe i plan to smoke someday. dont let the "stoners" get to ya. we know your smoking straight tobacco.
You got it half right. You also use the "tamper" to pack the pipe before lighting. Fill the bowl half way, tamp, add more, tamp, add more, and tamp to top it off. You don't pack it hard, but firm. This keeps it burning nicely and keeps from having to tamp as much when it's lit.
I have a similar tool that is wide, kind of like your pipe shaped one. Is there a use for this end? It kind of seems deliberately wide enough to cover the bowl and I have wondered if this is meant to be used as a wind cap or something? I am new to this, but have found on looser packs I will cover the bowl with my fingers to restrict air flow, which helps slow down the burn some. I wonder if the flat part where the hinge is located is meant for this?
Cool.. I got the same zcech tool.. Just began to smoke pipes today.. which Tabaco would you recommend? I would like some with a fruity taste.. but if you swear that you know the best stuff.. i would like to try that stuff too.
Mayakuya pipetaste is a super subjective thing. If youre into fruit tobacco id beginn with apricot/mango tobacco and cherry tobbaco. Always use natural tobacco and use a filter!
too keep a constant you take the lighter and you inhale throught the mouthpiece while lighting and tamper after to kinda get an even burn (Better for mixing flavors also goo with hookah)
@paintbasstard Depends on what you're smoking.. normal tobacco it doesn't matter, but if you're smoking flavored tobacco then you're gonna want to not inhale.. just like a cigar.
You're referring to second-hand smoke. Most pipe smokers smoke outside. As long as you don't inhale any smoke, then you wont get any cancer that has to do with the throat or the rest of the body. If you do accidentally inhale smoke from the air, it is in such a low concentration that theres a very, very low chance for some sort of internal system cancer. I guess skin cancer could be a problem but not a huge one.
@fidgetingfinch I know full and well the consequences of smoking, my great grandfather died of lung cancer from excessive smoking, for the last 2 years of this like he needed to carry around an oxygen tank and every breath was difficult and painful, however I think Jeff is only condoning smoking as a novelty, and only something to do on special/rare occasions
i must be one of those fortunate, i smoke cigarettes more than ten years and i still do not see any addiction. unlike people who realy need the cigarette right after waking up, i only smoke when i realy want to. i mean i can go without a single cigarette for months and then, when out with friends or at home sipping some quality whisky i smoke a whole pack :D dunno how it's possible, if i knew i would give advice to anyone. one friend - heavy smoker was able to quit thanks to electronic cig tho
@fidgetingfinch Nicotine increases dopamine levels. Smoke a fair amount of hookah and you will feel a high even after the smoke in the lungs is expelled. Street level heroin is rarely clean, and it still causes addiction which is the main issue, and there are few withdrawals that are as violent as opioid withdrawal. The chances of getting lung cancer from pipe smoking are significantly smaller than cigarette smoking. When smoking a pipe the smoke is usually not inhaled.
@littlesmallworld123 Yup thats exactly what i was referring to, thats why i said "second hand smoke" right in my reply, and you cant get skin cancer from tobacco smoke. Almost every pipe smoker i know, myself included, smokes inside as well as outside, it depends on the weather and where you like to relax as well as any mandates from your significant other lol. But no matter where or how you smoke lung/throat cancers are still a risk as well as oral cancer and heart disease.
