Pixel 8a Review after One Week: Google is a mess! 

Google does turn out a decent phone in spite of itself once in a while.

Got my 8a in Bay today and I love it! That Blue hit so much different in person 😍. I didn't get swayed by all the mixed reviews. I saw enough to know I wanted it, so I got it and I'm very happy with my decision.

I think the main issue is the timing of the launch of the A series phones. It always gets launched 6-8 months after the main series and by that time the main series phone is already on sale and close in price to the A series. If Google launched all pixel phones at the same time at different price points then it would solve the problem imo

Me personally I feel like the 8a should’ve been $399 instead of $499. At that price, it isn’t really the budget phone that normally the Pixel A series advertises to be. The thing is I love the plastic matte back and that sharp aloe color and flat camera bar. This phone will be a great value once it goes on sale and at $399 then it’s totally worth buying.

The Brett Favre analogy was brilliant - throwing into quadruple coverage in one game, then throws 6 TD passes in the next game! That definitely is Google, yet I love my (standard) Pixel 8! I think the only complaint I have is the non option of a 256 or 512mb of storage! I've had my phone for 7 months and have used 48% of my storage! I'm reasonably sure I won't even use the entire amount of alloted storage but had I been able to shell out a handful of extra $$ for a 256mb version, I most certainly would've! Again, a very enjoyable video!

After the software update the 6a fingerprint is better

Unless you’re getting this phone at a discount or free at your carrier, there’s too much competition even at this price point. The obvious upside is Google gets updates longer and first. But at $499 you can get other phones that have as much performance or better and the only real advantage is the updates. Something like the Motorola ThinkPhone is currently $399 and has a snapdragon 8+ gen 1 and has been getting monthly updates. It won’t be updated as long as the 8a but you’ll get superior performance in most ways. The only thing besides lack of updates on the ThinkPhone is it doesn’t have dual sim /esim capabilities. The Pixel 8a even with all of the great upgrades still has tortoise charging and wireless charging speeds. Even Motorola is far ahead of Google on that not to mention OnePlus who’s been doing it for many years way faster. Even the OnePlus 12R is a better bargain than the Pixel 8a but the only negative is lesser support.

Yep ... A good phone but I'll wait for a few months and get it at $399.

I got it for free in sweden by renewing my contract for 24 months :) So far its been ok!, it feels very fast. Only problem is that there are like no skins to buy for it yet here. Unless I want to pay $42 for a Google skin. My contract is 37 USD / Month for unlimited 5G data, calls and messages, which I have paid for 2 years.. so just the cost of the plan I have is 24 * 37 = $888. Not that bad since I get a $499 phone in the same time.

They have terrible policies. I couldn't believe that right after the premiere of 8a they so brazenly raised the price of pixel 8 to $699

At this point, might as well just wait for pixel 9 if anyone who wanted the 8 got upset about the price changing.

I'd _definitely_ put a case/screen protector on it. The back/visor will scratch to blazes. I was going to upgrade from my 6a, which I love. And, I was close to pre-ordering, as we have some great deals in the UK, but when I tried one in store, the corners really put me off. They felt/looked like they bulged out, leaving the thing looking, frankly weird. So, I guess I'm going to be one of those people who waits for the 8 to drop in price again. I'm _certainly_ not interested in the 9, with those hideous looking Camera Islands. Imagine being a case maker, faced with that, especially that ridiculously think strip of phone, either side of the island?

Nobody will keep this phone for 7 years
