Journalistically, I'd love to discuss the process of these episodes. II. I relate to Plane Jane's experiences on a molecularly Russian/third-culture-kid level. Perfectionism, the difference between honesty vs. vulnerability (and how to defend yourself using the former to convince others of the latter), deadpan delivery out of respect being taken as an affront... I have nothing but time for this. I grew up around old school Russian theatre-queers. When I was six, I commented to one of my esteemed theatre elders that they were a бархатный квир (velvet queer). How I came up with such an astute term with the little attention span I had at the time, escapes me. My world was embroidered with Slavic queers wrapped up in velvet theatre curtains, trying to swaddle themselves in Russia's veneration of art, of theatre, of dance, of perceived perfection and nothing else. I'm Russian. There's some truth to Plane's words 1). At the moment fashionable names are what parents would like to be unique (old, even pagan slavic) But in the USSR people came out with some crazy names! Vilen - Vladimir Il'ich (son of Ilia) Lenin, Pobeda - Victory, Electroficatsia - Electrification, Dazdraperma - Da zdravstvuet pervoye maya - long live the first of may, or even Tractor (yes, as a car you use in farming). Btw, one of my son's classmates is called Vilen, but I haven't ever met another one and I'm 36😊 2). We do eat a lot of porridge. My son could make it in a microwave since he was 5. Yesterday he ate 3 servings for breakfast (but not everyone is like that, half of his classmates hate it) 3). Salted fish eggs is THE DISH for New Year celebrations. I don't like it, it's expensive and stinky, but many people traditionally eat it on white bread. (I'll probably add something as I finish watching) 4). Higher education is very important for our parents. In the USSR it opened doors for people, it gave people from poor families a way out. It's not as crucial at the moment, but there are many professions that still require you to graduate a good university 😅

I recognize this competetivness and harshness some people with Russian background have, as I live in Finland and know some of them. That's why it has been extra interesting to follow Plane's journey. Sidenote: Nymphia is also very competetive, she just hides it really well.

It is the best thing ever to get to know more about Plane and her back story. For me, she was the hilight of the season and her provocatory reads actually helped people get more comfortable presenting their individual personalities. Planes little nonchalant meandering the Werk Room with "Hey, siissster..." & "I'm just trying to be a good sister" live in my head permanently. Plane, I love your sense of humor which is, as you know, elite tier genius level and Burger Finger made me aware that this was the best season to watch so far. Thank you for your service. And thank you Maddy for asking all the right questions and being a perfect interviewer.
