Excellent video shadow was no big deal. Pointing toward each additional move helped a lot. Not talking allowed all of us to concentrate on your work without your words distracting us. Again one of your best teaching videos. Thank you for the work you do we all appreciate it.
This reminds me of watching a really good pool player. Some think he just makes easy shots but don't pay attention to how the cue ball rolls perfectly setting up the next shot
Brilliant! The curved antler technique seems so much easier. I haven’t gotten used to the ischi stick yet. Very cumbersome. If you have any tips on where to find a curved antler like that, let me know! Thank you for sharing.
Salut, Thank You so much for this video! ....while I have not tried but a few times crafting any point, I know next attempt will turn out better for having watched this instructional. I am really digging your tool set, genius! Cheers!
So I just finished a little obsidian arrowhead and it turned out nice but just super thick. What do you think I could do to make it thinner without ruining it?
I have no idea. You pressure flaking it with antler into a leather pad? Work in the hand in softer leather and push in more. Create a gap so that flakes will travel innit and not be stopped by the leather. Pick corners off a blu nt(ish) pressure flaker and don’t work on heavy edges w pointed antler tools. Most thumbnails and antler pressure demos on RU-vid are for show and don’t really work. There are some exceptions.
You’ll just have to source a whole antler that fits your leg. Straight beamed white tail don’t have much curve so unless your leg is massive you’ll want to try on a curved one. For right handed knappers the deer’s right antler works better because it generally curves towards your body as you sit. You don’t need to drill and pin as I’ve done here, you can cut an angle into the beam and slip into it w cord or you can create a tie collar on the beam with a loop and tie through sort of like a button.
Nothing simple about this at all but if you spend a minimum of ten years of your life chipping off enough slivers to fill a large bathtub you may finally understand what your doing and actually get something that resembles an arrow head. Good luck.
Curtis Smith, Doug Sutton you can find on FB in knapping group or if you don’t want really large stuff I’ve got small spalls/ large flakes, you can email me martyrueter@yahoo
I dress it round (ish) then use various small shelfs around the face depending on the strength of the platform. It’s basically self dressing if I’m careful unless I’m working really hard stone, in which case I wear a groove that gets imbedded chert fragments and gets too deep so it’s prone to clip platforms. Then I grind that out and add a bit of round.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it wasn't made for entertainment but for education. Based off the title ,it's showing proper set up of horizontal punch platforms . I may be wrong though, it may just be for listening to the sound of chert fracturing .
@@Flintknappingtips lol. I like your explanation and narration. Even though I know exactly what you're doing I still like to watch and listen. I can knap 6 or 8 hours and still watch your video.
How about making your own video showing the "right" way, then, instead of just telling him he's doing it wrong? If the "wrong" way gets the same results just as efficiently and safely as the "right" way, it isn't the wrong way.
