I'm happy to be seeing more PoE. You got me into the game, and I'm a bit obsesed with it. I'm trying to just run through the game with NO knowledge from any build guides or "optomized" running. I'm sure my "build" is all screwed up but it's all fun and immensly enjoyable! Thank You, Woolieee!!
The game is so complicated that your enjoyment of the game is severely hampered by the fact that you're going blind. Unless you're an absolute BEAST ARPG player that can instantly see obscure interactions, you'll be focusing so hard on how to survive the game that you won't get to experience the core of the endgame. I whole heartedly advise a build guide, because you'll still have to do so much work to put it together, and you'll get to actually see the game, not just a constant struggle to survive the basic things.
As an example of that, these guys that are tens of thousands of hours of experience didn't know just how much of a power move that 1 regen / 1% fire resist would be. 1 point on a 1100 point passive tree that completely changed their gaming experience.
@@Love-kq7iy I really wish people would drop this bullshit. Yes, people's first build will suck, but a lot of people enjoy going in blind. Build guides are only mandatory if you think reaching endgame is mandatory. I've been playing since beta and I didn't hit endgame for like 4 leagues, but I still played because it was fucking fun.
@@Incurafy Yeah that's the problem with people on POE , you don't need to reach the endgame to enjoy a game and that's very true with poe. The compaign is awesome the first time you do it and... Having a first shitty build is just a classic for arpg
You should do more PoE content. I've never played PoE, being turned off by too many systems with too little tutorial overwhelming me, but as a massive D2 fan, you've seriously made me consider giving it another shot!
You can do it man! I have two characters. One was my first starter and my second character is when I understood mechanics more. I'm certainly not good, barely able to even do maps with my personal build, but you can essentially beat the story as long as you have an idea of how builds work. It is super daunting though, so don't hesitate to make a character, see how far you get and then make a new character with the knowledge you gained from before! :)
Just engage with the systems you know. Step one: learn to use skills Step two: try to get 75% fire/lightning/cold res Step three: find the _next step_ and gently branch out
If you played a decent amount of D2 you have a HUGE headstart in PoE. Most core systems in the game are built on a D2 foundation and the branching endgame you learn along the way. Skill gems are basically FF7 materias and the Skill tree, while looking menacing, has a very logical structure. Basically every aspect in the game has a tendency towards one of the 3 Attributes Str/Dex/Int (Red/Green/Blue) similar to cards in Magic the Gathering. Hammers are associated with Str, Bows with Dex, spells with int, traps are a mix of Int and Dex, totems are a mix of Str and Int and so on. It is much easier to learn than you think! The game automatically leads you in certain directions: So lets say you want to play a bow character, that part of the tree also has evasion and buffing up your flasks, so you will take these as well. Then you will also find some stuff that adds elemental damage to your physical attacks, increased attack speed, more projectiles, increased movement speed... And boom! Without even knowing it you got your first build!
As a non-PoE player, I like the way you introduced the way the game works without explaining too much, I always knew what the consequences of what you were talking about are without needing to know the background! As some (hopefully constructive) feedback though, I think you could put a bit more emphasis on the storytelling. Just making it a bit more exciting, more stakes, more direct comparisons between you and your opponent with a back-and-forth and so on, to see how the competition aspect is going at any point. And the ending, well, I know it's difficult to make a forfeit sound interesting, but I think there's still a way to make the turn-of-events a bit more impactful (SummoningSalt-style :D). At least, that's if you even want to go info this style of video, your choice! Really enjoyed the vid overall :)
I am in a process of making unarmed counterattack build. I do miss times of old gladiator where you got attacked by some while mobs and at 10 stacks you were already blcok-caped. But now we have glorious "counterattacks deal double damage". Now all I need is health to sustain hits from glancing blows, because there's no way I'm settling for ~20% block spells before having to min-max it to get 50%.
Hopefully you're giving it a solid chance, just take everything the game throws at you one thing at a time, and focus into one aspect of the game at a time. You'll learn as you go!
I wish there was more challange type content of the game like it is for DarkSouls for example i really enjoy these kind of videos and this was just insanely well put together 👍
It’s actually insane that Lance can be considered “one of the most prominent build creators”, I remember seeing his first videos pop up randomly and it feels like it was only a month ago
I played a lot of mines and ED Contagion so I actually like the two button play style. I prefer "Fun buttons" now though like Vaal double strike and Flamethrower trap
i tried the game for the first time like half a year ago. it is one of the best games ive ever played. id recommend it. just note that the game is as mentioned, a library of information. theres a lot to learn, but i find that fun. u can turn on easy mode if u want and just follow a guide. it will tell u what to do and why. if not, have fun making ur own build, fail from it, go again with ur newfound knowledge.
While it's a ton to learn the content creators have done so much work to ease people into this game. If you wanna try it there are so many step by step guides with explanation on why you do what you do that you can easely reach the endgame while also "understanding" your build, not just blindly following stuff. Also it's free so great value to time
To be fair, I would love to see this witg holy flame totem. It is really not that bad. On a jugg tho..... Yeah that kinda sucks, especially in an SSF environment.
Ive found every build is somewhat the same, ranged spells with a totem or buff and just run around activating it and just killing everything super fun game but after a week or so i was kinda over the gameplay 😢 i like reading the lore tho
that’s just normal ARPG gameplay for you, not necessarily for everyone the fun part imo is the building part. early on you might need some pointers on what skills are good for what thing, but eventually you can do your own thing like you see here. it’s more fun than following a build guide (though new players can try to follow one to learn mechanics before going on their own)
also, if you’re sick of the safety of being at range and clearing entire screens with one button, try skills that require you to stay in melee range. bonus jumpscares from insta-rips because you forgot to dodge/build defenses i’m trying blade vortex (poison because I heard of it once), but there are also other melee skills (e.g. shattering steel needs you to kiss the enemy for returning projectiles shotgunning) when I read guides and look at my builds afterwards, i get sad because it’s like I got spoiled (and it’s my own fault), so now I just look at the titles and try to make something lol (I also play poe like a roguelike because i get bored grinding on the same character with the same playstyle repeatedly. unfortunately my A10 kitava time is still very bad (PB is like 10 hours? lol))
When you say CaptianLance i know you mean Ben. The only prolific build creater, the only build creator that other top PoE yotube creators and players copy cause they know he's the master of PoE. If you're copying any other player/creator then you're only half assing it. I don't mean this is an insult or that this is a shit build. I turely wish you have fun and get into the game and promote it to all of your fans. Just know that Ben is the master and any build worth replicating is his if you want to push the limits. The guy is a master of PoE. I hate sucking peen but his is worth suckin
Bro is calling PoE the Hardest ARPG XD... it's not hard, there is just a lot of info, and all can explained simply, but a new player can come in and without min maxing beat the game easily...
